  1. How do I upload a story in the archive? The first thing you need to do is to ensure you're logged in as per the picture below: Click the option in the dropdown menu for Archives and a list of subdomains will appear. Find the subdomain that’s appropriate for your story (e.g. Harry Potter, or Originals) and click on the little green page icon to the right of the subdomain name. If you’re not sure where your story should be uploaded, look through the archive for your fan fiction and see where it’s uploaded. If you’re still not sure then don’t hesitate to ask a mod on the forum for help. Always make sure you’re uploading it to the correct subdomain before you upload it though! When you click on the icon to the right of the subdomain you want, it’ll take you to a new page. On the next page, you’ll first have to enter all the relevant information regarding your story, such as title, summary, disclaimer, etc, as well as content tags. It is very important that you choose all the appropriate tags relevant to your story. Click that field to open a dropdown with checkboxes for each tag. Failure to include tags will warrant a warning from a mod, and failure to correct it will cause your story to be hidden or removed. Towards the bottom of the page is where you’ll enter your story, usually be copying it from your word processing software and pasting it into the box provided. It’s always a good idea to go over it to ensure the formatting is correct. If all is good then click the “Post New Story” button. And there you have it!

  9. How to read your reviews 1) First, make sure you're logged into the archive. 2) Near the top right corner of the screen, you'll see your username. Hover your mouse over that and a drop-down menu will appear. The first option will be “My Profile”. When you hover your mouse over that, another menu will appear with various options. Ignore those and simply click “My Profile”. 3) On the left of the screen, you'll see a window with the word “Profiles” on it. Below that you'll see a variety of options; click the one that says “Stories Written”. 4) A new screen will load showing you the categories your stories have been uploaded to. For example, 'Harry Potter', 'Original', etc. Click on whichever category the story is in. 5) A new screen will load that shows you all the stories you've uploaded to that category. Each story will have a “Read Reviews” link. If there are reviews available for that story, then a number will be in front of it; for example, “(3)Read Reviews”. If you click on that link, you'll be able to read the reviews.
  10. The only way this could be allowed is with the express permission from the original author. Otherwise it's plagiarism and will be immediately deleted.

  16. Shopkeeper: Your dad used to come in here. Me: He did. SK: Saw a funny thing. He stepped outside the shop and was nearly run over by a kid on a skateboard. He told the kid what he thought; the kid gave him some lip back. So your dad punched him right in the face. Funniest thing I ever saw! Me: Yup, that about sounds like him. He took shit from no one.
  17. How to find the author ID and story ID This is an easy one. When you go to an author's profile on the archive, you'll see a URL with numbers at the end. For example: members.adult-fanfiction.org/profile.php?no=1234567890. These numbers are the author's ID. Some older members, like myself, have only four numbers as their ID, while later members have ten numbers; they're both valid. Each story also has its own unique ID, and finding them is just as easy. When you click on a story, you'll find a URL with numbers at the end, but these numbers are different than the author's ID. For example: original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=0987654321. Please note, though, that if it's a multi-chaptered story and you're at anything other than the first chapter then it will be slightly different. For example: original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=0987654321&chapter=2. 0987654321 is still the story ID.
  18. How to use search An important first thing to remember is that you can only search within individual domains. For example, if you want to search for a Harry Potter story, you first need to go to that archive. You can’t search the entire archive from one location. The reason for this is that we had no choice but to split the archive into different databases, since one single database simply couldn’t cope. Once you find the archive you want, click on that. Near the top left you’ll see the words “Search Archive”. Click that. You can search via a range of options. You can search for an author's name, a story summary, a title, and even story tags. Remember, though, it does not search the entire archive, only the subdomain you are currently in. So make sure you're in the appropriate subdomain before you start your search.

  25. “My friend and I are co-writing a story that we'd like to upload to AFF's archive. Is there anything special we need to do?” I'm glad you asked, because yes, there is. We come across stories in the archive all the time that have apparently been written by more than one person, with no proof that it is genuinely a co-written story. This forces us to try and chase up both people to ensure that it is truly a co-written story and not just a bit of plagiarising going on, which does happen. So here's what you can do: If the co-author of the story has an AFF profile, then – after making sure you're logged into the archive – insert their AFF profile user ID in the appropriate field in the “Story Details” section of the archive. The user ID is the number at the end of your profile URL. For example: http://members.adult-fanfiction.org/profile.php?no=000000. To edit the details in an existing story, go to your archive profile, click on “My Control Panel” in the top right, scroll down through the 'Story Manager' on the left of screen for the appropriate subdomain and find the co-authored story. Select “Edit Story Info” and add their user ID to the field for “First Co-Author”. “But what if the co-author doesn't have an AFF profile? What do we do then?” If that's the case then you need to send us the co-author's email address so we can have it on file and verify it with the co-author if needed. You should send the email here. Just make sure you include the full details in the body of the email, including user ID's of everyone involved, full story titles and emails. This all means that it's vital you provide us with a valid email address that the co-author actually uses. A fake email or an email that they never actually check is useless and will only ensure the story gets taken down. “So can the co-author actually make any changes to the story directly in the AFF archives?” They can, to a limit. They can edit the story, add or delete chapters, and edit story details, but they can't delete the story entirely; only the posting author can do that. Also, remember when you went into the “Edit Story Info” section and you looked right down the bottom and saw the “Allow Contributions” option? If you select 'Yes' on that then any registered AFF archive member can add a chapter, edit that chapter, or delete the chapter. They can't edit or delete any chapter they didn't add, and they can't change story details. And finally, you might be wondering why we're so particular about all this. That's because we're very strict on plagiarism, and don't tolerate it at all. Ever.
