Making sure the site is still in read only mode
Deadman replied to Deadman's topic in Archive Tech Support
I figured that. No worries, I’m happy to wait. It’s helpful though because it’s given me time to write more stuff that can get posted when it’s back up. -
Okay, just making sure the site is still under read only mode? Curious because I see there’s all kind of discussion on this thread I don’t know I’m going to go through it all. Also, I checked the main archive and it seems like I can go through the main process of adding a new chapter if I wanted to. I assume it’s still in read only mode?

Oh they are building something... a reputation. Things like what they’re doing is what they can use to make themselves seem cool in the hacker population. That’s how they get the much worse jobs they can take.
-
I do hope things are able to be resolved soon. It’s unfortunate that whoever is hacking the site seems to have such a need to screw with it. The upside though is that I have time to write more stuff. Finished off an entire chapter of a story and starting on another that should finish off the series.

It’s not currently possible to upload a story. The site had a hacker try to make problems for the site. The people in charge of fixing it are working on the issue.

Hey everyone, Just curious, I have a copy of an old fanfic that I found on a site back in the good old days of Yahoo Groups. I remember that the first fanfic which I managed to grab back then but I can’t find the sequel. The original fanfic is an AU Buffy fanfic, I think it was set in season 6 but being AU, it doesn’t matter, and the story is called Angelique. It’s an femmeslash story involving Buffy being captured and taken to an alternate dimension. Anyone know what the sequel is/was called? Maybe a place to find it?
-
You’re a fan of the story?
-
My bad. I have a thing about tagging people that probably comes from other social media.
-
@manta2g Totally get it. I was just kinda wondering, if I have something I want to post, should I? Or would adding more content to the platform slow down or negatively impact your roll out? I wouldn’t want to do anything that would cause a problem, but I also love the idea of being able to post stuff again. I can wait if you think it would help.
-
@Desiderius Price I did see that. I just didn’t see anything change where I usually post stuff since then. Now I’m seeing it change. I was curious if it was a broader fix.
-
So, I noticed today that the site seems to be working again. At least in the places I usually go and I can login and everything. Should we wait for a few more fixes before doing anything? Looking forward to posting stuff again.
-
@BronxWench Okay, I was thinking about what it looks like when we post. Like this. When I first became a member, it wasn’t “link”, it had the full link to my main archive profile. But I see this got fixed. You’re saying this isn’t possible on the main archive. Good to know.
-
Okay, I know there are places that don’t allow for such things so I wanted to make sure I could here. What’s the code for being able to put it as a text link? I noticed a few people have this on their forum profile. I would love to do both.
-
Hey so, I’m curious if it’s possible to link to other stories when posting? I have a story that I just finished writing and might want to do a sorta epilogue to it. But I want to post the epilogue as a separate story. I’m kinda wondering if it’s possible to include a link to the original story on which it’s based. That way anyone who checks out the epilogue first can see that it’s part of a longer story. Curious if that’s allowed. Thinking about posting the new story when the archive gets back up completely.

Whatever you feel works best.
-
@InvidiaRed Obviously I would love it if you reviewed it when the site allows it again. But if you want to let me know what you think, we can always talk about it here.
-
I know that feeling well. I often write stories with the intention of them being one shots or only 2 or 3 chapters and they end up expanding into complete novels. My series of one shots that I recently posted in the Buffyverse has recently become a multi fandom series of one shots. I have a whole list of stories now.
-
Yeah, there’s a whole movie about that, Daybreakers where vampires have basically taken over and they don’t have enough humans to sustain them.
-
Makes sense. I guess I just find it weird about the idea of thinking of humans as food.
-
So you’re saying that it’s both?
-
Curious what people think is the answer of the story. I write stuff involving vampires and occasionally that involves biting. But I’m curious about the way it should be tagged as on the platform. Technically, humans are food to vampires so it’s sorta like food play, but is it also blood play?

I was definitely thinking that I want to cover how the main character turned the tables. Probably through internal dialogue. The original story does have aspects that could work. The character taking advantage of the main character has spent the story up to this point dealing with the main character trying to get out of the situation, and being punished for it. So there are potential ways I could make it work that they did in fact find a way. Just not sure what the way will be yet. The alternate ending does sort of give them a way out, but it’s sort’ve a 180 degree turn because up to that point, it seemed they were at the mercy of what their circumstances. The 180 degree turn is part of why it feels weird to use that as the ending.
-
@Desiderius Price Yeah, I’m not thinking about it being a dream. I did that with another story. Basically, the situation is that the main character of the fandom is very smart. The story involves another character managing to find them in a compromising position and finding ways to use that to their advantage. The two endings involve the very smart character finding a way out by turning the tables and taking advantage themselves. It’s pretty consistent with the main character. I was thinking that I would switch POVs going forward to the main character. The story so far is told from the character who has the advantage, not the main character. But the other ending is that the main character doesn’t turn the tables. They just kinda accept the circumstances they’ve found themselves in.
-
@Desiderius Price So did Lord of the Rings.
-
@InvidiaRed That’s part of the problem and the reason I had to write two. One ending felt like the best way to end the story definitively. The other feels like what is most consistent with the characters in the fandom. But what would happen later might not be.
