Being new and writing originals isn’t an easy task. My first story got almost no reviews and I was sort of discouraged at one point but you have to push on. Like DP said, as long as people are reading, and lots of people read and don’t review, then you know you’ve at least got an audience for your work. Don’t let the lack of reviews get you down it happens to everyone and if you hang around the forums long enough, you’ll see it’s a common complaint among writers even in the popular fandoms.

Oh, self doubt is an ugly monster and believe me we all deal with it. I tend to compare myself with others far too much and usually, more often than not, find my own work lacking but there’s always room for improvement. I look at this (posting things here on AFF, lots of times before they’re really ready for public consumption) as a learning experience and a way to work on the things I do horribly wrong. 
Just remember, there’s always going to be someone who does thing better than you but then there are always going to be people who do them worse too and you can learn from both.

I’m in. Might do more than one. We’ll see. Title: Trick or Treat?   Summary: Just your average family on an average Halloween night. Nothing suspicious here, nothing at all.

Thanks ladies! I’m finding myself in a tough spot now though. I forgot my mom is social media stalking me and she called me to find out what this new book is about.
Me: Um… a hitman that uh… does stuff? 
Her: Oh, sounds like something Ron (my brother) would like. You know he likes those thriller type books. And something about politics too, right? The name is Backdoor Politics? 
Me: Uh…
I don’t have the balls yet to tell her what it’s really about. I may have to tell her it’s only being published in Swahili or something.

Fantastic news! Congratulations, CL I really, really, love that story.

So I just signed a contract to publish Backdoor Politics which of course means I’ll be removing it from AFF shortly. Fair warning if you are reading the story, you have about 22 hours to finish it. I plan to take it down tomorrow morning (that’s my tomorrow morning and I’m on CET).
Thanks to everyone who read the story (including at least 2 people I know who didn’t enjoy it, you know who you are) and a special big thanks to those of you who reviewed it! 
I’ll make sure I post a link in the Great Wall of… thread as to where you can purchase the book once it comes out.

Oh no! You of all people should not be encouraging this type of madness! I was counting on you to come back with something like "It was an absolute mess. Hard to read and the bit about the anal cervix made me gag!". How could you BronxWench. *shakes head and goes back to writing the follow up New Year's story while plotting out Peter O'Hare's return for an Easter story* See what you've done!

An AU where a leather daddy Santa has to deal with his sub's desires to get pregnant, his friend, Jack Frost's failed relationship with the Easter Bunny, and the fact that two of his shape shifting reindeer find they are mated to the same person. I just posted the edited chapters of Loving Sarajevo plus I added a bonus short at the end. I'm probably talking to myself here, I don't think anyone checks this unless I've updated so... anyhoo

Maybe Blondie will accidentally get Aneurysm pregnant making it an mpreg story... Then I'd have to hate him too because I'd have to stop reading.

Oh and Chrissy, I know that Aneurysm isn't dead because you always tease me by killing off the character I don't care for and then bring them back. I'm sorta looking forward to having all three in Val's bed though Now that's an idea I can really get behind.

I have to admit when I first started posting, I was obsessed with the hits, rates and of course back then, lack of reviews. The longer I'm here posting the less I care. I still love getting reviews, of course who doesn't, but I'm less ecstatic about it now than in the beginning.
I look at it this way: I wrote the piece already so I've gotten my enjoyment from the project so if posting it can entertain just one other person, I've gone above and beyond what I set out to do. If that one person takes the time to tell me they liked it, well that's just icing on the cake.
I'd rather spend my time writing than obsessing over my stats because in the end they really don't mean anything. This isn't a popularity contest, I think the original poster mentioned something about this site being fair about the updates page not being ruled by popularity, it doesn't hurt me if someone has written something that people love and it gets a million hits. I can encourage the other writers here because their success in no way affects my work. It actually makes me happy to see the few people on here that I've come to call friends, succeed in their writing endeavors.
And that's my $0.25 worth. (My opinion is way more expensive than DP's because I'm a diva )
