  1. Most definitely I must agree there are lack of reviews on this site. I originally joined to get reviews to see how good I was as a writer. I have not bothered to post any new stories due to this. One original story that I have left on, I have decided not to go out of my way to finish it because I have no way of knowing whether is it being enjoyed or not. It seems I have one reviewer who enjoys the story but that is about it. But that's okay, I am not whining. There are other sites available on the internet where readers provide helpful reviews. I was lucky to be directed to one. I do not mind that I have to pay a membership fee because it is definitely worth it as it will make me a better writer.
  2. Finally, finally, finally, found a site where I am getting the reviews I need to improve my writing.

  3. Since I haven't been satisfied with my writing, I have gone back to basics and taking a writer's 101 course. I've disovered I basically suck writing adult material. With that being said I plan to stick with writing fantasy and Sci fi--no more adult fic writing for me.

Currently re-writing, 'The Companion' as a regular fantasy story and going extremely well.

  4. I'm still alive and kicking...Haven't abandoned my story--still working on it just distracted by other things.

  5. Winter, enough is enough...Stop torturing us with the snow and the sub-zero weather--haven't we had enough? I am about ready to jump ship--leave Canada and move to Australia!

Oh, you don't want to do that! We've been having a heat-wave, the Hades threw open the gates of the underworld and it's been threatening to get as high as 50 in places that usually top 30!! No one is being spared right now!! I want to move to Canada, it's that bad! At least in the cool you can warm up, the reverse is rarely true!

I second that! It topped at 43 yesterday, and I'm only a few KM's away from the ocean. I'd hate to get the temperatures the interior is dealing with.

Those temps are a bit excessive, but I'd take 30 - 35 right now. Celsius OR Fahrenheit...

  6. I can't believe the weather is 7C--Is the cold snap gone or is Mother Nature just fooling us into thinking winter is over?

  7. I am currently struggling with the idea of following a reviewers suggestion to take down my story, re-edit, and post for more people to read. I already have at least 30 chapters up...I have to think this over carefully.

Oh and I am fed up of Winter...Tired of these damn wind chills of -35C...I intend to move to a warmer climate--enough is enough!

I don't think it's necessary to take down your whole story. Thirty chapters is a lot of work to post. Don't worry about how many people read your story. The point is to share it, not to compete for ratings.

Reviewers try to help us generally, but in the end you don't need to write just to please them. Work on your story however is easiest for you. Readers don't understand how hard it is to edit and publish our works.

Very true what you have said...I'll just continue pushing through it...The most important thing is that the story is being read :)

  8. I feel quite humble that I have been contacted to review someone's work because they like my writing style.

  9. What an unexpectedly productive day--got lots of writing done for once plus getting ready to put up a new chapter...Hope this good feeling keeps up.

  10. I'm taking a bit of a gamble here but I am thinking of killing off my OC, Derrick...I personally think readers won't care too much if I did.

Can always make it an ambiguous "Nobody could have survived that!" death, and then you can bring 'em back later if you need 'em.

      That's a brilliant idea...I like that very much--thanks!

  11. Finally got a Chapter up on my story...Adding monthly updates to my story as I have decided the race is not for the quick...As long as people are reading it, that's good enough for me.

  12. Oh my God the critics are killing me but I'm a tough broad!

what doesn't kill you makes you stronger... :)

  13. I would like to share two bad reviews that I have received but they were not on this site. They are quite comical in my view...Okay, the first review that I had received, the individual was puzzled about the way the characters spoke. Basically what they said was from my Avatar (I had used Storm), they are assuming I am Black. So if I am a Black person then how come my characters don't speak "ghetto"? *sighs. I mean really...I am an educated person of colour so why would I?? And besides what does colour have anything to do with writing??!!! This, of course had me laughing--people can be so incredibly stupid. Okay, now for the second review I have printed it below: "If you want to write something that is dark, you need to remember that less is more. Using large or uncommon words does not create a dark atmosphere; often, it does the opposite, making the material unintentionally comical. Instead of enjoying what you wrote, I found myself unable to follow along at times. Lose the melodrama and shoot for more realism. Allow your characters to talk like normal people because your readers are going to get stuck on how they're saying it rather than what they are saying. If your reader has to have a dictionary then you have lost them. Keep it simple and show, don't tell." Here is another person who isn't a fan of the dictionary...I just thought it was common knowledge that people knew what words such as, syncopated, blithering, and cacophony, all meant. And as for keeping things simple, I always remember my English teacher in University telling me that detail is the key to painting a picture for the audience to visualize--simplicity is boring, dull, and unimaginative. Oh well...
  14. After much thought, personal growth, and consideration I have set about re-writing and re-imagining my horror story which was originally called, "Cursed" Everything about the story has changed--new plot, different situation, and stronger characters now make up, "The Curse." AUTHOR: Crystalandra TITLE: The Curse SUMMARY: Can an inexperienced sorceress, Azriella, and her Familiar, Jaeghar, help save the soul of a young man (Frederick Von Duke) who is plagued by a family curse when the Old Lycan Master (Deverius Von Duke), refuses to release him? They shall soon find out and be drawn into a circle of intrigue, love, and terror... TAGS: ABUSE, ANAL, ANGST, ANTHRO, CR, FINGERING, H/C, HUMIL, MC, M/F, M/M, OC, ORAL, RAPEFIC, TORT, WIP FEEDBACK: Would appreciate any feedback or criticisms you may have for this new re-write. FANDOM: Original PAIRINGS: N/A SOLO OR CHAPTERED: Chaptered URL: http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600106585 Thank you for taking the time to read my story-happy reading and enjoy.
  15. My old story, "Cursed" is gone forever...Deleted and tossed in the garbage...New story, "The Curse" is up.

  16. Can't believe I was told in a review the words are "too big" in my story which forced them to look them up in a dictionary to understand what I meant. LOL wow that cracks me up...I feel so bad for making them use a dictionary...

I had someone tell me the same thing. I made a point of using bigger words in the next chapter. This isn't kindergarten, after all. :D

      Crystalandra

LOL good point made by all. *rubs hands wickedly together--I shall do the same and find some more really 'big' words to astound more readers LOL!

Well, as this IS a reading site, if they have issue with "big words" one has to wonder at the level of literacy, yes? Nothing at all wrong with using "big words". Dictionaries are readily available.

  17. Okay, currently working on a complete re-write of one of my stories...Will be deleting old story from Originals shortly...Have been inspried to start over again.

"Cursed" will soon be scrapped and replaced--yay!

  18. Arghhh epic fail! From now on I will be sticking to things I know about. *Crosses off erotical from the list and ticks off blood-filled horror.

Exactly. I was reading Stephen King's own comments on "The Shining" since he is releasing a sequel to it. He talks about how his writing has matured and improved, and yet I think The Stand is so well written. But even an author like Mr King seeks to improve and grow, and that means taking chances on new things.

      You can do it! :D

Thanks everyone :)...Okay I am going to give it one more shot...Pulls sleeves up and concentrates LOL!

  19. LOL I get that a lot...You can tell that I am a TC fan but he is supposed to be a blend of Wolverine, Lion-O, and Wiley cat...I am paying homage to them.
  20. Hi everyone, my Avatar is my one and only make-belief true love Argo...This Is how I visualize my T'yglon--it took me quite awhile to come up with his exact look and I think I was quite successful with it. I usually flip between him and Crystalandra's image which can be found on other sites.
  21. For the first time in a long time I'm on a roll today working on three chapter updates for three different stories...Let's see how long I can keep this up!

  23. I guess I am part of the minority here that as a writer I do appreciate any reviews that I get. Whether they be negative or positive, I do not delete them from my posts since they are very much like trophies to me. I'll give you an example, a story that I have posted elsewhere received quite a vicious review--the individual did not like my main character stating that she was too powerful, snotty, and even went as far to criticize the name. I took this all in stride--I didn't get angry in fact it helped me to sit down and re-evaluate the character that I created. *shrugs. It's a shame that some authors are insensitive to honest reviews and have spoiled it for others who appreciate them.
  24. I guess that I can say as a newbie to writing that since I am not receiving many reviews and lots of hits must indicate that my story is perfect and needs no improvement. *snickers...Oh well...as the old saying says, 'beggars can't be choosers' and I should be thankful that at least people are reading my work...Although it would really be nice to receive a praise here and there that they like my plot and where it is heading. Does that make me selfish to say that? I don't mind criticism in fact I am use to receiving negative comments since I have developed a thick skin over the years. I have come to accept the fact that some people will like your work and others will not.
