  6. Hi there, Vixen here, the writer of Serpent's Tongues and Lion's Tails. I don't know if any of my readers are on this forum or not but I wanted to leave a small note. Sorry for the delay in update. As you've probably guessed it's now up to a very important chapter and I kinda left it on a cliffy but I had no intention of being away so long. You can catch updates and explanations, discussions ect over at my blog- http://serpentstonguesandlionstails.blogspot.com/ I have not just stopped. I have been away and in two days time I have an exhibition of my own to run and set up BUT after these two days I will be speed typing away again to get you that all important update. Many thanks to all of you for your support and AMAZING reviews. They really took my breath away- such a boost to get a move on with it Special thanks to SlytherinGoddess who beta reads my fic and also to Withdrawnred over at Hawthorn and Vine for the grammatical corrections. BTW I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO MAKE ME A DRAMIONE VIDEO FOR YOUTUBE.... ANYONE? I would love it if you could contact me : Gryffindorgirl2010@hotmail.co.uk
  7. Woop -to Malfoy feverr!!! When I get some spare time I'm gona jump on over to read your fics if that's ok?
  8. Haha! No worries about reading it or not. I'm just happy writing it. I'm ill and can't work so it really keeps me occupied. It's why it means even more to me to have gotten reviews because I'm soooo tired at the end of the day I know there are going to be mistakes. But if someone points them out to me I've learnt to say thanks and correct it because its human nature to make a mistake and any corrections I make can only help to make it better. Thanks for getting back to me and clearing up the matter on whether or not it was ok to ask for feedback like that. i've never said, no more fic unless I see more reviews because I feel that isn't why I'm writing. Reviews are just an extra bonus. I can understand to a certain extent why people would write that but I totally understand the turn off it would be to the reader. I'm really glad you, and everyone else on here were honest about it all. I feel this thread really helped me as both a reader and writer, to take on board the different issues to do with leaving reviews
  9. Yes a review board would be great and I know of other sites that do them. HOWEVER it must take SO much for the moderators and admin and whoever who work behind the scenes just to keep the site running. Let alone adding fancy technical new features, however much they are wanted. As for reviews. Personally I love getting really indepth feedback, be it critical or not, from my readers. SO I came up with a couple of options. 1. A new email address. It's free and it was made only for my fanfic purposes so why not ay? It saves the mods lots of hassle and I can talk all sorts with my new email friends. 2. A blogsite. I'm on http://serpentstonguesandlionstails.blogsp...290500c46920a6b and I've found it really handy to keep my readers up to date (because I have ongoing medical problems/treatment/procedures) when I have to break from writing for example. I've also ended up showing sketches of things to do with my fic and encouraged the readers to submit fanart if they had any and/or wanted to. 3. I do tend to put a reply to my readers in my author's notes but also understand that its being asked that we don't do that so much anymore because of how much stuff there is on the site (from what I understood anyway.) I also understand what someone else in the thread said about it taking away from the story- especially if you're reading many chapters in one go. However, if a reader hasn't reviewed before and isn't looking for a reply then they can skip it without a problem. Don't know if this was helpful or not, just saw the thread and thought I'd drop a line. But I think we do have to remember how much work this site must take to run. I think we really don't appreciate the mods and admin staff ect enough. B xxx
  10. Please excuse my naiveté, but who's Jessi Slaughter?
  11. I don't know what fandom you're after but this is in my recommended reading list: http://hp.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600012231 Gryffindorclutz's Pictures. If I remember rightly Hermione gets blackmailed by Draco. Have a lil look. Let me know if it's ok or not and I can always have a further look when I have more time. Is it fandom specific?
  12. I thought this was a great thread to read through. It was interesting to get an insight into other people's thoughts and opinions on, not only reviewing but the whole writer vs reader element. I admit before I started really getting into writing my reviews were short. Even now when I do review, (Not so much anymore but only because I have had no time to read fics because I've been working on my own,) I tend to put only the positive. I will mention the elements that I really enjoyed like if I think they kept the characters true to the original. Or if I felt a certain chapter was really emotive. Sometimes it was just a matter of OMFG that was hot!!! I agree with everyone when they say they want to here feedback. If things have gone quiet on my fic for a while I often just message to ask if its because of anything inparticular. Or I put in that I am concerned that having taken a certain route with the fic has put people off. I've then had readers message and say I don't like where you took it, I liked it up till now but I won't be reading anymore. To which I thank them because they've been loyal to the story, its not to their tastes, which is nothing personal to me so I'm just thankful that they took the time to tell me. Even this morning I got a critical email from someone about punctuation and how thoughts and other issues were written and I will admit at first I was filled with dread going oh god I KNEW I was terrible. But I took what they had to say and I took into account that this reader had messaged me in order to help me! I messaged back and truly admitted, writing is NOT my forte. I write for fun. BUT I'm glad she told me about the things that were wrong because I am still learning from it. Any type of review (as long as its not a REAL flame or a troller leaving it) is great with me. Because you have to admit it is great to get even those short ones that are one line saying they liked it because to me, that a reader took their time to leave it sometimes means more than the content of the review. I must admit I never knew so many readers felt concerned about leaving a review and this makes me really sad. I know that personally I'll remember what some of the readers said and take it into account when I write my next author's note. BUT each to their own. We all work differently. We all like different things. Some fandoms get more readers and will get more reviews. I wouldn't take it to heart though because the fact that you've put something up on here for others to read is great. I think as writers it takes a certain amount of courage to post. And I often worry what the response will be to a fic because some people can be horrible about it and flame but at the end of the day just because one person didn't like it it shouldn't put you off writing. At the end of the day if its good crit it may improve your fic and that's great don't you think? As writers we really should want to do our best (although I also understand that some people write solely for fun and not to improve their writing.) If it's a negative review or one you don't take kindly to, ignore it. Just because one person didn't like it it doesn't mean others don't enjoy reading it. I'm glad this thread got posted because hopefully the writers have taken things into account as well as the readers. I certainly have. I always leave a small message saying: I hope you liked it, please review. But if people think that may be a turn off for readers I'm going to stop doing it. I also hope that readers took into account that most of us don't mind critical reviews though it is nice if they are written with tact. I hope that readers will now feel more welcome to leave bigger reviews. I know that I for one will take into account everything that was written in this thread because it gave a lot of people's insight-which is what this is all about really. Sorry for the rant. And oh how I laughed about Magi Kavin with the 1 hit is equal to one fap! lol! I am slightly worried now that i've caused over 40,000 faps! I hope not too many of those were the same person! hehehe! (I also really liked Dannyealle wrote from her blog. Very informative )
  13. I'm happy to see that you're taking it in a good light tho and that it hasn't knocked your confidence and taken you off the site
  14. I heard about this. I think the problem is that there are so many stories out there that authors can't help but have things over lapping. In any magic story you are going to have people saying, you stole my idea because you can only limit yourself to so much. I.E. I found myself thinking the locket in DHs is like the Ring in LOTR. Do I think she intentionally copied this idea or deserves to be sued? No. I don't think people who do a romance story about forbidden love and then have the characters die will be sued by Shakespeare. (If he came back from the dead obvs.) In drama we learnt during our research that there are only actually something like 9 stories and all others are adaptations of these. I can't remember all the info, its all very vague to me now. It's like I've started reading Fallen by lauren kate and I previously wrote down on DA that I had an idea involving fallen angels, a romance with the son of the devil falling for someone and it all being to do with the fight of heaven and hell. it was all gona go in a manga of mine. And I read it and went, oh bugger. Its like, you're limited with characters as well. I have a character with black hair and green eyes in my book... Not because he's Harry potter in any shape or form but merely because at the age of fourteen when I started writing it I liked guys with dark hair and green eyes. Sounds to me like the author is bitter about the fact that JK has done so well and yet their book has not. Yes it's a shame. i understand they must have worked hard. I'd be upset too if I'd published a book that didn't do great and then another came out with strong similarities that took the world by storm. I hope it comes to nothing. I'm sorry for the author that feels their book was plagiarised. I just don't think it is the case. After creating Potter's world from her own imagination I do not imagine that JK one day decided, fuck I need help, I know... I remember that book... I'll have THAT happen! **Sigh** sorry for the rant.
  15. Phew! I'm glad you said that. I don't want anyone thinking I'm big headed or anything like that. I genuinely get really nervous on forums because I've read so many negative comments on them before about people pushing their work. But thanks for being so supportive of it Also I agree with Unitedgravedigger maelstrom by Rei Rei is great
  16. Wow. I'm not sure what to say. It's an awkward thing. I dunno whether to congratulate you or not. : S Is getting an honorable mention a good thing? I bet reading your fic on there wasn't... (But you said you read that site before)... Or was it? I hope it didn't knock your confidence and the fact that you're still on here gives me the hope that you're still writing. I honestly hope so
  17. Aw that's great you got it done! I always get worried about leaving a message on here coz im shy but I hope if you do get stuck again that it helps.
  18. So he's done TWO of your fics? Wow. I must admit some of his stuff was funny, he has an s amusing sense of dry wit BUT I can't be cool with what he's doing. I'd be torn up if I saw my fic on there after two years of working on it. Saying that though is it not his right as a citizen to have freedom of speech. I'm not condoning the fact that he's completely shredding everyone's work to pieces, but, with it being fanfiction its not like we can claim it's OUR work really? And also he has a right to say if he does or does not like something... Just think that its gonna be hard for anyone to do anything about it. If the mods can cut his account on here then great but he can still access the site and if anything happens the whole place will be teaming with Trolls. Unfortunate though it may be I think anyone who has that happen will have to rise above it and know that everyone here at AFF.net values their work and admires them for having the bravery to put it out there. **Glum smile**
  19. Lol the title of this thread made me giggle. Just wanted to post and say go you for posting a thank you to the mods! You're right we often don't think about how hard they must have to work and how unappreciated it often is so I join you in say woop woop! to the mods
  20. I know its not a done thing for one to push their own stories but it's not very often I really get to do so. (Or am brave enough to speak up.) http://hp.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600011882 My fic starts based around Hermione and Draco in their Seventh year where the Carrows teach class, Harry and Ron are on a horcrux hunt, (leaving Hermione behind for her own safety,) and Hermione and Draco are Head boy and girl. Part One is a lot lighter than part two and Draco is his usual immature, Malfoy self, tormenting Hermione. However as times get tough the two are thrown together a lot more and something rises between them, though not necessarily typical fluffy stuff. Part Two is a lot darker but I don't want to give away any surprises. I also don't wana seem jumped up my own ass by suggesting my fic, it's just not very often I get on the forum and find people requesting Dramione. Hope I haven't offended or annoyed anyone I'll go away and hide now lol Hope whatever you read you enjoy. Welcome to the world of Dramione... Hereth begins the addiction
  21. I don't know if it will help but one thing I've found I do a lot is if I'm stumped on a chapter but got ideas for a part later in the fic, or even just later in the same chapter I write it down. NEVER delete! If you don't feel happy with it copy and paste it to a spare document and save it. You may end up coming back to it in a few hours and think, ah! That's what's missing. Another thing I find if I'm stuck on a particular scene is just jotting down ideas, or parts of sentences, or even just describing the room they may be in. It may never get used and it may have no relevance to the scene but it'll keep the creative brain juices a-flowing so that when you finish and go back to the scene you may find it easier. I dunno if that helps or not. Sorry if not. I sincerely wish you all the best with your fic though B xxx
  22. Got a new site for info on the fic, author notes, other fun stuff like music and videos ect. Fanart and Fanmade trailers welcome! http://serpentstonguesandlionstails.blogsp...7e77cece614eccc Vxxxx
  23. Some Bad news... Firstly I am NOT stopping this fic! However, I got some very bad news from the hospital last week and I now have to make the most difficult and important decision I've ever had to make before. I have been told that there is nothing else they can do for me save but one. So I may be under going another painful operation. I am waiting to hear more information but from what I have found out there is a very long recovery period. There is also no guarantee that it will work. I have a while to see specialists and make my decision ect. But I can't live on morphine either. I have to decide if i want to be in pain for the rest of my life or risk this op. I will be weighing up the risks and of course there will be a fair few months, I have no doubt, before anything happens. But I wanted you all to know that the next update will not come as fast as the last. I apologise profously and hope so much that you will all continue to support me by sticking with this fic. It's not over. I'm still going. Please don't quit on me. x
  24. I remember reading this too! I'll be damned if I can remember what it is though :S I can't search properly coz Im not at home atm, I'm travelling. But could it be Hogwart's Malstream (sp?) by ReiRei? Its a dark fic though so it's probebly not Though when I can search I shall come back to you if you've not posted before. Good luck!
  25. Just a quick note. I'm going away for a week or so. I'm going to try and get another chapter up before I leave on thursday but I don't want to rush these very important next few chapters. So0o0oooo, if I don't update by Thursday it won't happen until the week beginning the 7th. I must apologise for this delay as usual but it can't be helped. I feel you would rather I didn't rush and ruin it anyways Sorry again for the hold up. It was great coming back to find more reviews even if some of them did leave me feeling a bit depleted. The Dragoness- You are a star!!! Sorry u got the brunt of my writing angst in that email. I was feeling immensely insecure about my work. I always will. It annoys even me so thank you for putting up with me. Thank you also for defending me It makes me feel better knowing someone is backing me Lady Disdain- I am so relieved not only to hear from you but to be told that you still love my story! That is a huge boost! I hope you have been well, and you know what I'm like with updates. I'm too sporadical I know. I go like two weeks with three updates and barely any sleep and then i'll go over three months before my next update. Its stupidity on my part. If I pace it, write and wait so I always have an extra chapter then ppl wouldn't be as effected by it. But no0o0o00oooo I don't use my brain I post them asap and then check hourly for the next week or so just to see if i've got any reviews and did I upset anyone and do ppl feel I'm still keeping them in character. lol I wait anxiously every time I post and i wait for the criticisms and negative comments. lol. All in all I fail. I can write for myself and enjoy it but as soon as i put it up for anyone else's opinion I cringe and hide away lol. As always thank you everyone for your continued support and thank you very much guys for your patience. I will have the next chapter up when I get back or just before I leave. Lov lov everyone! B xx
