The-Bat-Lady reacted to DemonGoddess in How to Select a Rating Level
    SFW rating
This rating means "Safe For Work", meaning no sex or anything explicit. If you wouldn't want your boss - or grandmother - reading it then do not using this rating.
    Adult rating

Simple drabbles, songfics, and poetry usually belongs here. Stories that are rated "Adult" can also include things such as strongly suggestive imagery or situations, heavy groping, insinuations of sexual activity, adult language, and violence -- the key is that stories rated this way are generally nonexplicit in their descriptions.

    Adult+ rating

Most AdultFanFiction.net Stories fall into this category -- these are Stories that are clearly for mature audiences only. Stories that might be given the "Adult+" rating include things such as explicit sexual activity, unapologetic violence, descriptive fight scenes which allow for all due blood and gore, and a limitless adult vocabulary.

    Adult++ rating

No holds barred here, really -- this rating should be applied to all Stories that are not for the faint of heart. "Adult++" is how we suggest you rate a Story that involves heavy or off-the-wall kinks, the darkest of plotlines, intense psychological mind games, excessively gory or disturbing depictions of torture or death, unusually graphic descriptions of sex, gratuitously crude language, or the addressing of acutely controversial subjects.

There are consequences to having a non disclaimed or improperly disclaimed story.
When an improperly disclaimed fiction is found, the Admin will post a REVIEW stating the disclaimer is in violation, and what needs to be corrected.
The user will have one week from the Review date to properly disclaim their work. After one week, if the fiction is still in violation, it will be HIDDEN.
After a story is hidden, the user will have 30 days from the date the story is hidden, to properly disclaim the work and contact the Admin, requesting the fiction be returned to public view. If after 30 days, the fiction is still in violation, or the user has not contacted the Admin, it will be DELETED.
Finally, yes, WE ALL DO realize that fanfiction by its NATURE is not for profit. However, if it's not stated, it's still not a proper disclaimer. So, whether some of you think it's obvious or not, it still MUST be stated. A blanket disclaimer in the user profile is not acceptable, it HAS to be attached to the story.

    Why-
Disclaimers are needed to not only protect the archive itself, but the user, individually. By disclaiming stories, the archive is protected to the point of worst case scenario being deletion of content, and the user is protected whereby the archive is better able to protect the user's information on file, particularly the emails.

    What is needed-
    For fanfiction-
Say that you do not own the fandom, by NAME of that fandom. Character disclaimers are not enough. Say you make no money on the fiction.
    Example

    Crossover fanfiction-
ALL fandoms in the story must be disclaimed. If the user knows they're going to exceed the 240 character limit in the disclaimer field, then put in that field “see full disclaimer below”, and do the FULL disclaimer as required. It only needs to appear in the first chapter, if disclaiming in this manner.

    Celebrity/Real person fiction-
The author must state they do not know the person (or group), they must state that it is fiction, and they must state that there is no money/profit made.
    Example

    Original fiction-
The author must state it's a work of fiction, and include a resemblance clause.

    Original poetry-
The author must state it's a work of poetry, and include a resemblance clause.

    Original non fiction-
The author must state that it's a work of non fiction. They then must state that where possible, permission has been granted by the person (or people) involved in the story.

Fiction based on Myths, Legends, and Fairy Tales-
The original fiction disclaimer should be used for these stories.
    Example for the above

Fiction based on books which are now public domain-
The author needs to acknowledge the fandom in some fashion (whether inspired by or whatever), and add a resemblance clause, like what is required for original fiction.

    Blanket disclaimers in profile
We don't accept them, as there are entirely too many categories throughout the archive, for it to be effective. You MUST attach a disclaimer to each and every story you add.

I have included links to examples, so that you know exactly what we're looking for. The reason for the brevity, is the fact there are ONLY 240 characters available in the disclaimer field, and spaces do count as characters within the field.

Verbose disclaimers within a chapter do NOT count as an author note, as that is not what they are. If you need to make a disclaimer which is more than 240 characters, in the disclaimer field, simply input -See full disclaimer below (oneshots) or See full disclaimer chapter 1 (multichapter). This TELLS us where to look.

The-Bat-Lady reacted to ApolloImperium in Special Announcement: Welcome FanFiction.Net Users
I feel like it’s September of 2002 all over again! Almost 10 years ago to the date, FanFiction.net cleansed the site of all ‘adult’ content – Which is why AdultFanFiction.net exists in it’s current form. Today they announced that for the first time in years they are actually going to enforce their no adult content (or in their terms MA content) again. Now, for those of us that enjoy places that enforce their Terms of Service, we are rejoicing that they are finally acting like a responsible site!
We’ve seen an uptick in registrations and I would like to take a moment to welcome all of our new members! We've had one of our biggest days for registrations in a long time, 250+ and counting today alone!
That being said, AdultFanFiction is not FanFiction, nor are we associated in any way shape or form with them. We are two completely separate websites and are not affiliated with them in the least.
A couple things that new users migrating should be aware of:
We are an adults only site. This means you must be 18 to use it. Yes, we do verify your age, so please, if you've signed up and are underage, let us know now to avoid getting in trouble. I do this not to be mean or nasty, but because I really don't like the thought of jail time. I look horrid in orange, I swear! Please respect this policy
We actively moderate the site and enforce our Terms of Service and Content Guidelines. Please read them carefully to ensure that you are not in violation. All new uploads are reviewed on a weekly basis. You may receive an email or a review asking you to fix something. Again, this is not because we enjoy being mean, but because we have our ToS in place for a reason.
We are in the middle of a code re-write. This means that certain sections have different layouts and not all features are currently active. Please bear with us through out the reconstruction - I swear it will be better once it's done!
To add on to number 3, we haven't sold our soul to the advertising devils, so I promise you won't see those horrid little pop ups that FF.net uses, but that means that we have very little incoming revenue and most of it goes to pay our monthly hosting cost. As a result, we are running (with the exception of the new code) code that is for the most part 5-9 years out of date, which means that a number of the features you may be accustomed to at FF.Net aren't here. You may see them with the new code, but please be patient, there's about another 6 months in this re-write to go.
Remember I mentioned that we have little incoming revenue a moment ago? Yes, we make some off our advertisers, but again, mostly pays hosting costs - Your donations if you like the site are very much appreciated and are always used to improve the site! You can learn how to donate here
Forums - Our forums are separate from the archive. They are two different programs. This means that if you would like to participate in both, then you do have to register separately for both. We'd love to see you on the forums, so feel free to hop on over! I do recommend looking over the previous news posts for a variety of important information, but you can also do all kinds of fun stuff, from story searches to various games, read the FAQ's to help learn how our Archive is set up or just chat away in our Shoutbox! (Please note, normally the Shoutbox is reserved for Forum Members only, but for the next week or so until registrations start to level off, it will be open to guests in need of assistance)
Oh and one last item for Lucky Number 7? Myself and my staff are friendly, so if you have a question please don't be afraid to ask! How to contact us can be found here.

So again, welcome to AFF.Net - So long as you follow the rules, I think we're gonna have a rocking good time together! After all, that's what this place was created for to begin with! Let the smut roll!
