I know that the main character, who I think is either Gold or Ash, is on their pokemon journey. The journey actually has a second rule shown that the trainer can become a Gym Trainer for a year in order to obtain the badge if they cannot defeat the Gym Leader. The main character ends up becoming a trainer of the Psychic gym as to train their psychic power and I believe it was their 6th badge, but I cannot be sure. I know that the pokemon that they end up bonding with is an Inkay, which is an oddity at the gym as it is also Dark type, and I believe the story stopped shortly after that, although just waiting on an update from there. I am active on AO3, FF.net and AFF and I simply cannot figure out where I had read this story. Anyone with comments, even if they themselves remember this story but cannot help, will be welcome.
