PorkChopExpress86 Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 hey guys i am wondering does anybody have any idea how adult-fanfiction.org was created? why was it created? or its relationship with fanfiction.net? can someone answers these questions cause im am really intreasted in learning about this sites past and im sure that there are others whome share that feeling with me Peace out brothers and sisters of adult-fanfiction.org and may the furs be with you "WOOOOOO!!" as i understand it fanfiction.net used to allow adult fics but then suddenly they deleted all the M stories without warning and offered no explanation, so AFF was formed. Not sure on the details tho, wasn't doing fanfics back then. Quote
Guest Monsterking Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 which is why i formed this thread Quote
DemonGoddess Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 aff was started as a small archive, in response to the M rated stories being pulled at ff.net. There is no affiliation between the sites. I have a general idea of the what's and why's overall, but someone else who's been around since the beginning on the back end of all this would be better served to outline it all for ya. I CAN tell you from recent experience, that we're actually addressing things now that should have been addressed quite some time ago, simply due to the growth of the archive itself. It started out with something like 200 stories altogether, years ago. Of course, there's much more than that now. So, now we're in the process of making software to fit the site needs, while also shoring up, stabilizing and maintaining what's already here and in place, which we've outgrown. The current software itself simply doesn't provide the functions and capabilities we need for an archive of this size. Quote
foeofthelance Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Basically, the way it works is this. A long time ago, during the First Age, the realm of FanFiction.Net was taken over by the evil FFN. (Does Fanfic.net still come up as FFNazis?) The FFN saw themselves as holy crusaders, and tried to purge the realm of all that they thought of as Unclean. (Basically anything with an M rating, no matter why that rating was given. What this really accomplished, however, was to create a realm where fear ruled, as all it took to have a story removed as a single accusation. Other accounts were protected for some unknown reasons, while innocents perished in the flames. Out of that particular mess, a series of pilgrims set out to establish their own land, one where everything would be embraced and tolerated, at least so long as it was well written. They openly enjoyed the sharing of ideas, and so they dubbed their new country AdultFanfiction.net. What was once a small gathering of like minded individuals grew, and under the blessings of the Great God Google, expanded as more and more folks came to know of its existance. This was the First Age. The First Age soon gave way peaceably to the Second Age, during which the site prospered and grew. But as everyone was happy, there was little outright control being managed, other than the occasional battle against the Troll Army that showed up every now and again. The Forum was born around then, but it was a much smaller affair, as it wasn't mandatory to sign up for it. Sadly, the Second Age came crashing down in a horrible explosion, the cause of which remains unknown, as those who survived weren't there to take part. Only the victors and losers know the truth behind those events, and they aren't talking.* When the smoke cleared, the Second Age was over. We are now in the Third Age, and once more the site is expanding and growing, though this time there is a little more oversight to it, to ensure that it doesn't collapse under its own weight again. Several of the Ancient ones are still about, posting every once in a while and generally watching and seeing what takes place. The Forum is also much expanded, and has attracted a new population. What happens next is yet to be determined. *This isn't entirely accurate, as several people who are still around do have some idea of what happened, and at least two of them probably have details. But since the entire event has been taken care of, and has no current bearing on the present, its basically been declared closed. These things happen. Quote
Gnome Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 What a great little story, foeofthelance. I see an epic in the making. Quote
Shinju Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 I have been surfing AFF.net since the creation, although I have never been active in the former aff yahoo group and did not join the forum until last December, mostly because I'm antisocial. But let me tell you , there hasn't been a single month since I was about 18/19 that I have not visited the site. Oh, God, the heartbreaking crashes! There was that one time I thought the site was NEVER going to come back up and I was devistatd. AFF started in late 2002 in response to the "happenings" on ff.net. Ff.net used to be the place for ff smut. I remember when the stories got pulled, if my memory is correct they had a lawsuit against them, I cant remember if it was by an author or because some stories used the names of real actors that were underage or what, but in response they took down all the NC-17 stories, with fair warning, they didn't just yank them off. They used to use the G, PG, PG-13,R, NC-17 ratings for their stories, but I was told they got sued over that too so they changed the ratings to T, K, K+ etc. They eventually allowed smut back in under th rating M. I think what they do now to appease the authors is they just no longer allow works based on the copyrighted materials by authors who give them trouble. Thus the reason I think a certain author of certain bloodsucking chronicles is a total nazi. I'm tellin' you, pretty soon it will be Fahrenheit 451 in this country. That, in a nutshell, is how AFF sprung up. Quote
shinigamiinochi Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 So, basically the evil that is ff.net inadvertently created the good that is adult-fanfiction.org? How... ironic. *waves aff.net flag* Quote
Guest Monsterking Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 no ff.net is not evil its just that they have decieded to do an very stupid thing peace out brothers and sisters of adult-fanfiction.org and may the furs be with you "WOOOOO!!" Quote
Solaris Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 *Clears throat* Talking about the origins of the creation of this lovely site is what I love to talk about. Back in September 2002, FF.net decided to kill off any NC-17 stories, remove them entirely from their site and I mean entirely. Ayla Olsen (the founder and first owner of the site) created Adultfanfiction to take the stories that was impending to be lost due of the purge from FF.net with full intent on having a site meant for adults by adults to post their R to NC-17 stories at. First the site was on Geocities, we grew huge there, so it meant a search for a new host and a domain name was bought adult-fanfiction.org, and then we moved to Nexcess, where we have stayed with, with one switch to another host but in the end we returned to Nexcess. And I am one of the early members to be on Aff and I am a former owner of the site. Beth Quote
Guest Monsterking Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 hey foeofthelance whom are these ancient ones you speak off? i have been trying to figure it out but i cant can you enlighten me oh and people remember to keep the posts coming baby! Peace out and may the furs be with you "WOOOOOO!!" Quote
foeofthelance Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 Well, I'd tell you, but the older a dragon gets the more we enjoy our little games. I shall leave it to you to figure out who is and who isn't an Ancient One. Your only hint is that no, post count has nothing to do with it. Quote
Animefan249 Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I love this site, i joined this site the day i turned 18. i used to post tons of stories but now that i'm getting older and have less time, the stories aren't being written as often. Quote
AnotherArchAbraded Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Ironically, claims were made in the early days of AFF that the site was not a response to anything elsewhere in the community. Quote
DragonGoddess Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 All the previous statements about FF.net taking off the NC-17 content is true, and like Solaris and Shinju said, it was in 2002 that they deleted the content. I was posting my stories on FF.net at the time and they deleted them all, claiming they were inappropriate for the site, so I moved them all to AFF.net after it was started. I've since then refused to post on FF.net due to constant changing of rules and regulations on stories, and continued to post here! Quote
bookworm51485 Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 Found an interesting summary of aff.net history if anyone wants to read it: AdultFanFiction.Net- Fan History Wiki Quote
DarkKennith Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 same thing others said. I heard that FF.net didn't allow naughty stories(anymore?), disgruntled members left to make porn heaven. kind of like the mass immagration to sheezyart by deviantart users. in the beginging they had few to no rules. they they didn't allow lemons and people got sad. I think I joined at some time. during your second age? I recall there were thousands more fictions but they got removed due to the lack of legal disclaimer. Quote
foeofthelance Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Probably. I think part of the problem is that some stories were given automatic disclaimers, others got purged when they got ID'd as plagiarism or troll attempts, and part of it might just be that the author up and left and so the story got axed for not being changed accoridng to requirments. Then there was the whole mess that was the change of servers, which seemed to have killed a few off as well. That just means more room for us to write and post our own! Quote
Guest MortiferLascivio Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Does anyone even moderate FF.net anymore? I've seen plenty of stories with real mature themes (which I've also gotten away with there *looks around*) Hell, my stories have been plagiarized about six times in the last four years there and they never did a thing about it. My readers had to pretty much scare the plagiarist into deleting the story XD It seems like they do a lot of updates but hardly anything else. I wasn't even aware of the goings on with FF.net and AFF.net and the dealio with the mature content. I didn't even have internet until 2003. Man, though, I remember when I heard about this site. I was practically dancing on my toes, waiting for the day I turned eighteen so I could access it. Quote
