Rayven Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 So I went to the listing of how to be a Beta, and I was very confused. How do you reply and post anything if the topic is locked. So I figured that this was the only way to do it, and I'm hoping that I am doing this correctly. I've never been a beta before. Still, I've got to start somewhere if I want to become one. I want to become an official beta on AFF. As far as stories that I myself have reviewed, I can't list any. I haven't done any reviewing of stories since I was in college, and most of those were papers for class. But I read fanfiction pretty much every day, and have a strong grasp of proper English and punctuation, which I think is important. I have been posting online for about 2 and a half years. I don't have very many stories up, but most of that has to do with the fact that I was working way too much for a while there. AFF.Net is the only site that I have fiction posted at. My strong areas are proper English, punctuation, and conversations. I've always been able to picture the conversation in my head, and make it life-like in my stories. My weak spots are probably that my spelling is not always very good, but I don't hesitate to go and look up something if it is questionable. I haven't written anything that is particularly questionable, although I have been thinking up a very Dark Harry/Voldemort story recently. We'll see if I get the time to put pen to paper. As far as reading, I have read pretty much anything and I don't have a problem with it. I actually like reading darker stories and rougher plotlines, so I haven't come across anything yet that bothered me. Fandoms I have written in: Comics/Elfquest, Shows/Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Shows/CSI Fandoms I frequent and review: Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, CSI, Sailor Moon, Fushigi Yugi, Demon Lord, Johnny Depp, POTC, Dracula I would like to be a beta because it gives me the opportunity to read new fiction that no one has gotten their eyes on yet, and it will push my writing skills in a new way. I know that it requires a lot of work, checking for mistakes in spelling and grammer and trying to help the author make their story the best it can be. Other than just being an avid reader and writer, I have been working in offices for the better part of 8 year and have a lot of skills when it comes to making writing sound professional, in case that is something that people are interested in. I also was writing to get published in a scifi/ fantasy magazine , but that was many years ago. Lastly, please let me know if this is going to be accepted or rejected. It's a little upsetting when you are rejected and no one lets you know. Thank you for your consideration. Quote
EveKnight75 Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 Each resume is its own topic. The main thread is locked because it is only supposed to be for guidelines. So you've posted correctly. I'm going to start reading your stories. I'm familiar with Buffy, at least. I don't suppose I need to know the canon to check your spelling and grammar skills (you state that your grammar is strong). When I say objectionable content, I mean the things put in warning labels. For example, would you be bothered by scat or incest? Different people have different tolerance areas and levels. I ask for this type of information because this is an adult site and anything is inevitable. If nothing bothers you, that's a huge asset. ----- I've just finished reading your work. I've sent some comments privately. It would've been nice to read some of your reviews because the stories are all at the beginning right now. At this point, this is neither an acceptance nor a rejection. I think you have excellent reasons for wanting to become a beta, and I like your application. Quote
