After he lost his dad tells him that he was a disgrace to their family because he wad weak. They later find out that Paul's dad was worst than him. He disowned Paul because his weakness made him look bad, so he cast him out of his family and wanted nothing to do with him. Dawn feels sorry for him and tries to comfort him. While they talk he appologizes for always making her mad, and tells her how he really feels about her. Later that night she goes looking for him and finds his room. They talk a little, and it turns out she liked him, too. They end up sleeping together and after Ash and Brock leave Sinnoh, Dawn and Paul start traveling together and become a couple.
