The basic rules for the forum have already been posted above, so this is just to clarify those rules and to discuss additional rules. If you want to know more about me as a moderator, you can check out the pinned intro at Writers' Corner.

There are overlapping gray areas between this forum and others. I'll tackle the ones that I can name off the top of my head.

- If you want constructive criticism for something that you've already posted at the AFF archives, ask for it here. If you have not posted it at the archives, but you want constructive feedback beforehand, post your topic and the excerpt over at Fiction Betas. The before/after aspect is important.

- If you want to write an article about how to write a review, and you want to gather information from others, do it here instead of at Writers' Corner. I realize that the latter forum is stated as the ideal place for research on writing, but this particular topic is more strongly related to reviews and the reviewing process.

- If the reviews are related to a specific fandom, and you want to discuss only that fandom as opposed to reviews in general (such as verifying canonization), then maybe you should post in the forum which correlates to the archive your fandom is in.

-If you want to thank a specific person for a review you've received, or reply to a specific reviewer, don't do it here. We have a PM system for that. Use it. Any topics started on that basis alone will be deleted. If you thank someone for a review or reply to a specific reviewer as part of a post but the rest of the post stays on topic, then that's fine.

That's all I can think of, but let me know if there are others.

As I said before, this area is to discuss reviews, whether it's the ones you've received, reviewing tips, or review-whoring. You're not limited to reviews on AFF. If you want to quote reviews you've gotten from other sites on a fic, go ahead. The main thing is to make sure that you're on-topic the whole time. Plenty of us quote reviews for non-adult-rated fics, or reviews for the fics we've cross-posted between AFF and another site. Usually, the poster quotes a review that is relevant to the topic, so I'm not going to complain.

There's really not much else to add concerning the rules for this forum. So go ahead and browse now.

I've already stated that you are not to start threads to personally thank reviewers, to do it through PMs and e-mails instead.

I realize that we can no longer view the e-mail addresses through profiles while logged in. DA and the former mods implemented this because members were being spammed by each other. I've seen this sort of harassment take place actively on the site and have been victim to it myself so I do understand why it is necessary.

I'm afraid there is nothing I can do about this. I myself have chosen to put my e-mail address in the public area of my profile. You are free to do the same. You can also leave your e-mail address in the body of a review.

There's a third option in some cases. Some members choose to receive anonymous reviews. Any e-mail addresses left by logged-out reviewers will only be visible to the author. You can leave a review while logged off. Leave your registered pen-name and e-mail and leave a note in the review stating that this is your pen-name on AFF.

I know that it doesn't solve the problem of trying to contact someone else. However, it does leave you available for contact. If someone wants to thank you for your review, they'll be able to do so. And that's a start.
