Karategirl422 Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 Hi, I find myself in need for the opinions of others since I am torn between what could be an important decision regarding my story, Summoned. Whether you have read the fic or not, I appreciate any adivce. No prior knoweldge of my story should be necessary for what is troubling me. I've just uploaded the latest chapter, Chapter 28 and as my story is getting closer and closer to the main event (Main character being taken to another world), I need to consider where to take the story in terms of it being a part 2/ sequel or just continue to grow the one story in length. I plan to have a few more 'killing scenes' since murder is a big factor in my story before my main character is taken to the other world in my fic. I think I will have around 3 more deaths but maybe less depending how I plant the next one. Since my story is already nearing 30 chapters, 10-15 more should be enough to get to the main event. What troubles me is that I don't want to end it at the main character leaving her world, I want to continue her story for her possibly returning or not. The plot of that is still in development since its a fairly new idea that has come up since a few loyal reviews have mentioned it. I think it would be good to do since I too feel myself wanting to write about it. The thing is though if something like that should have its own story, like posting a part 2, staring from chapter 1, or to contiue the already posted story to grow to 60+ chapters (Estimate)? Would a longer story be better where I treat the main event like the climax or make a part 2/sequel be the better choice since some super long fics can turn off a reader from giving it a go. A good friend has suggested a part two, but he is supportive of any option I take so I want to see what the readers and fellow writers think. While I understand that I can't please everyone, we are human after all, I work hard on my story and want it to bring enjoyment to readers. What do you think I should do since both idead sound appealing to me? ~`~`~`~`~` Karategirl422 `~`~`~`~`~ Quote
CloverReef Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 Hm. I've never been in this predicament before (the joys of being fickle, I've only made a sequel once in my 13 years of writing.) but for once I can speak from the perspective of a reader. First of all, it's true, 60+ chapters can seem daunting to some readers if it's a fic they haven't touched before. So in that frame of mind, I'd opt for a part 2. BUT (yay for caps!) the content is just as important as hooking in readers. What I mean is, you could consider waiting until you finish the current plans for the plot with the character going to that other place, and see whether it would feel right to wrap it up there and unleash a sequel, or to keep going in the same vein. You seem to have plenty of time to make a decision, so maybe one will come naturally through the course of the story. Quote

I think I should just wait to see where the story takes me ang go from there. Maybe it will become clear what to do as it get's closer to that point. Thanks for your opinion, its greatly appreciated.
