_C_ Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Maybe I'm weird, but when I read a lemony smutty scene, I like it when the author takes time to describe how a person acts and sounds at the moment of orgasm. Because to go through all that foreplay and an intense sex scene just to say "and then they sailed over the edge and relaxed" feels like a cop-out to me. I think peoples' orgasms are as varied as they are. Why not describe that? What if a quiet character is a loud feral beast in bed? What if a loud, boisterous person is quiet in bed? Am I strange, or do others share this little frustration too? Now, one thing I want to point out before I leave this behind is if an orgasm has already been detailed once in the story, that doesn't mean an author has to detail it EVERY time unless maybe it's one person with different people. A woman who doesn't get off with one guy might have multiple orgasms with another man, and yet another guy could give her big boomers! So use your imagination there. Quote
CloverReef Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Oh I totally agree. It's kinda the definition of anti-climax, when you put so much effort in writing everything but the climax, isn't it? I've probably committed that anti-climax sin too many times to count, but I like to think I don't anymore. So yes, it's definitely frustrating to read. Quote

I've probably committed that anti-climax sin too many times to count, but I like to think I don't anymore. So yes, it's definitely frustrating to read. Exactly! Take Sesshoumaru from Inuyasha as an example. Somehow, I picture his ears and face and chest all flush when he's really into it, and maybe sex is when he's anything BUT stoic and emotionless. I bet he'd be downright FIERCE. Then look over at noisy, rude Inuyasha...and somehow I picture him as the one who would purse his lips and squeeze his eyes shut and go off as quietly as possible. Maybe the lack of realistic orgasm descriptions comes from a lack of realistic orgasms in porn or movies. A good place to see how varied they are is beautifulagony.com, but to see the whole thing you have to pay There's some good stuff in the "about" section where there are a few demo vids. Quote
Tempestuous Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 I agree! I can't say for sure if I'm in the clear myself, but I try as hard as I can to describe orgasms, expressions, feelings, and even twitches. I even go out of my way to ask my guyfriends what their orgasm feels like exactly and what kind of movements or sounds they make. I guess I'm just shameless, but I take all the information I can get to be accurate. The more you know, the better you can write it, no? And I love how you picture Inuyasha and Sesshy. They do seem like that! Quote

I asked another guyfriend while he was right next to me, and he gave me a very simple explanation because my question completely caught him off guard. Of course, he doesn't mind, because I always help him with his lady problems or give him tips. It's all win/win. Quote
FairySlayer Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 I agree completely that it's frustrating. The lack of these "important details" reminds me of the characters in "The Truman Show" (1998) complaining that whenever things "get good" they always cut to a scene of the curtains blowing in the wind. (In the "Twilight Zone" episode with the same premise it was mentioned that their lovemaking was carried only on the adult cable channels late at night.) After readers wade through my writing to reach the sexual content they should be rewarded with the same detail for the foreplay and various acts too. Quote
Palantean Writer Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 The orgasm is the bit where you really get to be flowery, so it's almost surprising that a writer would opt out of describing it in full, electifying detail. I love writing the orgasm part of sex scenes - no matter how many times I write it, there always seems to be more room for fresh description. It's a shame more don't. Quote
Cuzosu Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 I don't know about other people, but I don't tend to detail the orgasms as much because mine make me go mindless. And I have a rather feral side anyways. It's all teeth, nails, and closer, further, harder, NOW! if you know what I mean. The only real differences are how overwhelming they are and how many happen. Although last weekend my boyfriend had me so worked up I had three in a row (pent up orgasms... He held me back until the end!) and it literally hurt him to keep pushing in. Lol. I guess he had cramps after that--which had me laughing when he told me. Love him dearly, but he brought that on himself. Quote
