englishwitch Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 its not the heat, its the humidity. thats what really makes it feel hot. I remember a vacatyion in Ibiza, 30*C heat during the day, but it was a dry heat so i barely felt it, more like a warm 23*C to me really. but today in England, 27*C and a high humidity, i must have lost a couple of pounds through sweating alone.
Guest TricksterKitsune Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 It's been hot where I live. I live near Buffalo, NY. You know, the place everyone says it snows constantly in and it never gets above 32F. Well, a week or two ago, it was humid with temps in the high 80s to mid 90s. Where I live (Wheatfield, 10 minutes away from Niagara Falls), which is further from the lakes and their nice wind, it was 96F with a heat index of 102F. Tomorrow it's supposed to be hot and humid (high around 88F). As long as there is some wind blowing, I'm fine. My bedroom is on the best side of the house for wind. It's 72F (76F heat index) right now and it's 1:00am...
Guest Madapple Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Well, Wyoming finally got a reprieve. The high today is 78 degrees. when is winter?
Guest Mike256bit Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 107 heat index in Brooklyn. I stupidly left some VHS tapes in my windowsill under direct sunlight. Probably ruined.
Guest Madapple Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Should I brag and say that the high for the week is 83 degrees, on Thursday.
Guest Mike256bit Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 It's actually not so bad. My place of work has air conditioning and my shift ends at midnight
Guest Alien Pirate Pixagi Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Well, then Mike, you suck! I'm going to summer school in a school that has no A/C Luckily, tommarrow they don't expect us to show up, so I'm hitting the beach or something. Likely Far Rockaway.
Guest Mike256bit Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Yeah, but I work every day of the week (read: no time for beaches). I almost wrote "no time for bitches," which is also true.
Guest Mike256bit Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 I don't envy you I came from a mountain town (sorta) so this is new heat to me.
Guest Jackie_Boi Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 it was 101F...I believe which was the heat index, today in Michigan. I live just outside of Detroit and on the news this stupid lady sat in a car with the windows rolled up, just to see how long she could last. I didn't watch it long enough to see how long. But...I didn't stay outside much, at tops it was 5 minutes. Stayed inside all day with the central a/c . I wish I had enough room for all you guys to stay and watch a bootleg copy of Pirates of the Carribbean 2 with me
ZombieDuke Posted August 2, 2006 Author Report Posted August 2, 2006 107 heat index in Brooklyn. I stupidly left some VHS tapes in my windowsill under direct sunlight. Probably ruined. I did that with an old remote once. Melted the plastic over the sensor, thing never worked again. >_<
Nanaea Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Monday we hit a heat index of 104 but it rained all day yesterday and last night. As a matter of fact we had a terrible storm that woke me up shortly before 1 am with thunder so loud that it literally shook the whole house. I swear I thought it was a tornado at first. Today is supposed to be 70 and cloudy. It's amazing how cool 70 can feel after several days of 96+ temps....
NinjaGaijin Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 A dweller of the tropics here... You guys complain about that kind of temperature? Sheesh. Try 40 degrees C in midday Arabia...
Guest vorheesfan07 Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 110 Fahrenheit, not including humidity here. And my frickin' air conditioner has a bad habit of breaking down on me!
dazzledfirestar Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 It's finally cooling down here in Calgary. The last two weeks though... yikes! Wasn't a day below 30C for quite awhile... and I am part of the stuffy little apartment with no A/C club too. Let me tell you, 30+ degrees at an out door wedding in a big heavy dress is no fun at all... I can't imagine how it was for the guys in suits and tuxes. Yikes!
dazzledfirestar Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Your sister is a trouper! I know the best man at the wedding I was at nearly fainted during the ceremony, and all of us in the wedding party spent most of our time searching for water and shade. That's why my wedding was inside and air-conditioned!
