Shaduan Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 Okay, here's a question that might or might not be shared by experienced smut writers: How do I keep all my sex scenes from sounding the same? I have a number of ideas for adult fics, two of them PWP vignettes and one of them taking the time to lead up to the main event (so to speak), so how can I add a little variety so that pairing A doesn't get together and do it exactly the same way as Pairing B or C? Keith Inc. Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 Okay, here's a question that might or might not be shared by experienced smut writers:How do I keep all my sex scenes from sounding the same? I have a number of ideas for adult fics, two of them PWP vignettes and one of them taking the time to lead up to the main event (so to speak), so how can I add a little variety so that pairing A doesn't get together and do it exactly the same way as Pairing B or C? Different settings? On the piano, in the car, rolling off the bed, bathtub, shower, Marquis de Sade room at the Wax Museum, inside a giant's pocket, across a Lilliputian bandstand? Or give them a little mutual fantasy to play out? Oh, Master, thanks for removing the chains; Oh, Headmaster, thanks for putting me on the team; Oh, Dr. Roth, this new serum...it makes me feel funny; You'll never learn the location of the secret invasion headquarters from me! DodgeSuperBee Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 I've thought about this one as well, because the last thing I want is to write virtually the same sex scene over and over again. One of your couples might eagerly anticipate the sex they've planned for that night but to the other couple it's more routine and expected, still good but not mindblowing. One couple might be spontaneous and flirty, calling the other's workplace and reminding them of what they have to look forward to. Maybe they go for over-the-top scenarios like a trail of candles leading to the bed, rose petals on the satin sheets and champagne on ice. The more relaxed and practical couple might just hit the sheets after pulling off whatever clothes they happened to be wearing that day. If you're writing the same couple having sex more than once, they might be rushed on one occasion and able to enjoy a leisurely experience without pressure another night. Maybe everything doesn't go perfectly on at least one occasion. Someone might get the idea to try out light bondage or some other stunt. Those are just a few ideas I might use in my writing...good luck! Quote
Xenobia Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) Different personalities, different sex scenes. One pair might be more romantic than the other but it's based entirely on the personalities of the pairing and your imagination. Even if a pairing prefers "dirty" talk, it's quite possible to differ the encounters. There are literally hundreds of positions out there to play with and even the same position used more than once can be unique with the right application of dialog, circumstances and mood. The vanilla "missionary" position can be extremely hot when the right actions lead to it and so can "doggy style" or any other popular sexual position. What matters the most is use of words and the feelings portrayed behind the actions. Anyone can fuck but to make it hot, there has to be something more than just actions. Use your imagination and toss some dialog in there...or interruption or have one character screw up and say something stupid if you want some humor. There are no boundaries. Sex is sex...it's the mood and descriptions that make it something more than simple porn. Edited February 4, 2009 by Xenobia Quote
MorbidFantasy Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 there's only so many ways to have sex, and only so many ways to describe said options. It's all in the descriptive language. Think of the variety as a series of multipliers. You could also have more than one on each list happening at the same time. 1. the basics The dick goes in the vagina The dick goes in the butt The dick goes in the mouth The dick goes in the hand The finger goes in any of the above (yes hand in hand too XD) The tongue goes in any of the above A toy goes in any of the above That pretty much sums up the physical possibilities, but if you expanded it to include setting, that alone changes everything. 2. posture Standing Sitting Laying down 69 Bent over doggy style tied up bondage Submissive/dominant non submissive/dominant 3. setting bed floor vehicle empty room (includes jail cells and other) public/private nature (beach, woods, etc) 4. emotions+# of participants and etc non-con/con aggressive/non aggro humiliation M/F, F/F, M/M, orgy/multiple etc 5. toys/utensils don't even get me started...ANYTHING can be used for sex. Some just work better than others and you just have to be creative about it. Obviously these lists aren't comprehensive. You also have to tack on the fact that even given the same characters in the same setting with the same sex format, descriptive language will allow two technically identical sex scenes to come off as unique and fresh. Keith Inc. Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 One of my sex scenes was inspired by a girl i knew in Charleston. She used to... Well, here. Right after the narrator has ejaculated into Hina: I pat Hina's tail, trying to get her to let me go, but she didn't. She did pull backwards, towards me and away from Shayah, but kept her grip on me. All her grips. As my satisfied cock deflated, she kept a tight hold with her vaginal walls. Each time it shrank, she sounded a terribly satisfied sigh from the sensation, and squeezed me with tail, feet and pussy. It was amazing. My cock shrank, she drew all kinds of attention to my cock, to its location, to her pussy. Before I was halfway-flaccid, I'd started to harden again. I wondered where she'd learned that! Well, she was named after a fertility goddess. Then, when I was back to blue steel, she leapt off of me and rolled over the bed. What the hell? This was Olympic class cock teasing, I thought. Then Kane slid in front of me Obviously, the girl in Charleston didn't have a tail or feet that gripped like hands. But she did have a trick or two for speeding the second round.Another was inspired by someone who licked his girlfriend like he was trying to write his name on her pussy in spit. I have no idea if that would actually work, but it doesn't matter, it's porn. Do something weird or unusual. Different. Even if you make it up. something the reader may or may not ever try, but won't stop thinking about. I covered a rubber toy in a super-rubber for one story. shake it once and it'll bounce like a thing alive for an hour. Play with those possibilities. New toys, even if they're impossible. I remember being struck by a phrase in a story i've long forgotten. The guy had a girlfriend who was as tall as he was. They kissed and it was powerful. The narrator said that straight-across kisses are more erotic than bending down to kiss someone, because usually straight-across kisses only happen in bed. Id' never thought of it that way. Tell the reader what you find special about sex or what you think they should remember about sex. Even if you make it up. Quote
WarlordEnfilade Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 I think you have to look at the sex scene from the character's point of view. You could take, for example, plain ol' missionary sex. Now imagine the character on the bottom is: - a virgin - cheating on her partner (why? Does she feel guilty? Happy? Both?) - someone very experienced doing it with someone who is a virgin, ie, teaching him how - someone very experienced who is bored by it - finally getting with someone she's wanted a long time - feeling coerced into doing it - tied up All of these different people are going to have very different experiences from the same sexual act. If you can actually get into your character's point of view and describe it as it feels to THEM...you can write the same actual act over and over and have it come out different every time. Quote
