It all started with one simple, harmless mission statement to make the world a better place for the people through technology. First, they made the house smarter, the cars hands-free, the factories more efficient. But they didn't stop there. Soon, all the restaurants, all the stores, even the police force and the hospitals were all robotic. That's when the slums started forming. There, people and robots no longer useful to society came to live and wait to die or cease functioning. Then there's the Outskirts. Not much of anyone goes there, but it's said to be inhabited by failed biological experiments and a number of patrol bots. The corporation that cared seemed to turn a blind eye after the untimely death of the CEO. The machines began to take control of society, while the business men continued to pocket profit. As numbers in the slums begin to grow, an ever increasing amount of people finding it harder and harder to maintain a living in a world of machines.
