Fizzinpixie here and I wish to apply as an official beta. / I'm thinking of becoming an official beta but I'm not sure yet. I started writing and beta reading in 2003. I have not had any regular beta work for the last few years but am looking to get back into it. I have beta read for these posted woks: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by Coryashire, Several chapters for: Harry Potter and the Loss of Innocence by Ioci, and several stories for Bad Voodoo whose work is archived here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VooDoo_Harry...nfiction_Group/ I typically beta for typos, canon, and characterization as well as some grammar and spelling (I don't always catch everything but I try). I have also helped with plot development. I hate it when a story looks as if the only beta work that has been done is a quick spell check so I do go through the whole chapter/story word for word and try and catch wrong words and poor sentence structure as well as spelling. I also try and make each character have a voice of their own in my own stories so I look a dialogue very carefully and how it affects characterization. I can help with Brit picking a bit as my stepfather is British but I am not however, so what I know is from him or reading material by British authors Most of the content I have beta read is rather tame but I am willing to accept most content as long as it's not S&M, D/s, chan with characters under 16, or any violent and demeaning kinks. I will beta a story that features rape but I will not beta a story that does not deal with it in a real, substantial way i.e. Harry Potter gets raped then goes and shags somebody the next day and discusses it like "it ain't no thing". Sexual abuse and assault is serious and I treat it that way thus I expect others to as well, plus when it's not it makes for very unbelievable writing. I do ask that the author understand that I do have a real life so I will try as best I can to be helpful but I also ask that we keep it professional. I'm not on the internet to "meet people" I'm here to write and edit and improve at doing both. I have only worked within the Harry Potter universe and prefer to stay there as I feel most qualified to beta that fandom. I would be willing to beta original work as well though. I write as well as read fanfic so I understand the need for a reliable beta who can relate to what it's like for the author. If I get a chapter/story I try to get it back to the author within a couple days so they can post as quickly as they need to. I also like to interact with the authors a bit so I know where they want to go with the story and see how I can help typically by IM and/or email. I am willing to just read, correct and/or make suggestions then send a chapter back, whatever the author is comfortable with. I think I covered all of my quirks above and I have not done what I would consider unusual beta work. If authors want to ask me any questions before selecting me I am more than willing.
