  1. I am hoping to be lucky enough to find a beta reader for my current Gundam Wing fanfic. This particular piece is severely large in size (100+ chapters of continuos plot). I am very passionate about writing, and I insist that my beta be as well. I expect that the finished product of my writing be well worth the time my readers give it. My writing is very graphic in both its content and tone, and I cannot insist enough that my beta be open to helping me craft this adult content that is sexual, violent and twisted. But I'm not all a bed of nails. There's bright spots too, and they say that "light shines stronger as the darkness grows." I give no return deadlines to a beta reader who I expect will genuinely read my writing of his or her own free will. I desire all my relationships in life to be like the sex I desire in my life: engaging, honest, rough, raw, pleasurable, and perhaps most important of all, reciprocal. The relationship I hope to have with my beta is the same. In return for beta reading my stories, I am willing to offer the same service to my beta. Some of the qualities I look for in a beta reader are: sharp attention to detail ability to recall a great deal of a sound and consistent sense of grammar brutal honesty a sense of humor willingness to work on second drafts If you are interested, please read the story here: http://whenshootingstarsfall.com/index2.html and contact me. Thank you again for your time.
  2. What Makes a Good Review: 1. Earnest emotional reaction to the story. Criticism is appreciated, but I'd also like to know what my readers felt when they read. Did it make you sad? Did it make you horny? Did you get excited or scared? This is basic feedback stuff, but it's surprising how often it's omitted from a review. 2. Earnest intellectual reaction to the story. What did you think about it? Sure, maybe the sex was hot and you chuckled a few times, but what did you actually think about the story? Did you buy the premise? Was the plot compelling? Were the characters fleshed out and unique? How about the presentation / narration? More basic stuff that often gets left out, especially when people focus on their emotional reactions! 3. Tell them what was good (Strengths) 4. Tell them what could be improved. (Weaknesses) 5. Tell them what you think / feel / want to happen in the story's future (Speculation) 6. Thank them for writing! Seriously, it's not easy. I know that this is a shit ton to ask of any one reviewer. Just getting a review, even if it's a simple "please write more", is always a great feeling for most writers. But, when you really want someone's input, you'd want it on all of these things, I imagine. You want to know if your story is smart, if it evokes strong emotions, where it can be improved, where it's already strong, where people think it is headed. And, of course, you want some support. Criticism is always a good thing, but it's not the only thing. Years back I wrote a story that was a rather silly, smut oriented Gundam Wing fanfic. I came up with a title and made several edits very quickly before posting. It was called "Naughty Vodka", but I'd forgotten to change the name of the liquor from Bacardi, even though I'd replaced every instance of the word 'rum' with 'vodka'. Well, I got a bunch of reviews on that story that were hardly anything more than "Bacardi is a rum, not a vodka". Seriously. That's criticism, sure. I deserved it, sure. But that's always stood out in my mind as an example of how criticism can often be quite useless, and that an ideal review has much more to it. Yeah, I'm done ranting. Hope this helps.

    Stupid Reviews

all reviews have a point to them. Whether you assign any value to those points is a personal thing... I've gotten some reviews that I thought were quite awful. I can take the criticism, but I can't stand when a reviewer can't even get a coherent message across in a review. Types of "stupid reviews" 1. Poorly written Review (includes use of 1337 / too much AIM talk / emoticons): This is bad. I know some readers might not be good at the English language, and others are just "too busy" to bother checking their review for spelling or grammar, but, honestly, you look like an idiot when your entire review is freaking smiley faces and exclamation points. Even if it's a positive review, the writer might just wonder, "What kind of idiots are reading my stories? Does that mean I'm a bad writer?" But, well, this kind of stupidity is all over the internet... 2. "Post moar / faster!" This is stupid because, unless the writer was waiting for reader feedback before deciding whether to continue, a comment like this only puts more pressure on the writer that they don't need or want. Most have their own pace of writing, and it's border line insulting (i believe) to even suggest that they should consider some reader's eagerness over whatever real world restrictions that may dictate the writer's pace. I'm not saying that expressing eagerness to read more is a bad thing. But when it's the only thing in a review, it really begs the question: are you reviewing their fiction, or are you just making a selfish demand on them without giving anything in return? And, this isn't to say anything about any of my reviewers who do this. I appreciate the reviewer taking the time out of their day to read my story and encourage me on. I just might not think your review was a review. 3. Clearly didn't understand the story. It's happened to me. It's happened in reviews I've gotten. Some people will read all through your story, post a review, and leave the writer scratching his/her head and wondering, "Is this review supposed to be on my story???" So, yeah, just make sure you read carefully before reviewing... 4. Pure Flame / Request. Reviews that are simply the reviewers pent up feelings on a given topic are not actual reviews. Ditto for "reviews" that are actually requests for something from the author (Hi! I loved your story and was wondering if you could maybe beta read mine. It's called...) (Hi! I loved your story and hoped maybe I could send you my story for your website!") Yeah, can't think of any more...
  4. i can't get pregnant (cuz i'm a guy) so i don't really feel i should have a say in this unless it was my baby (guess that makes me pro-choice)
  5. i believe that government is a formation of the people, for the people. if those people are into a religion, who am I to tell them that their state should be separate from their religion? (so long as those not agreeing with the state religion are allowed to leave for a place where they can do their own thing) so, fundamentally, no, i'm not for it. But, I don't see a reason why a place as diverse as America (my home turf) should be controlled by one tiny minority religion. The others should be able to team up and overcome such a religious republic, and, if they can't, then they probably don't deserve to live in a religion-free government
  6. when would Sephiroth seriously get down on his godly hands and knees and take it in the ass from somebody? name me a situation, someone, seriously. and i'm not talking about slutty perfect clone # 69 taking it in the butt while he looks like a ukeish sephiroth. I'm talking about the mother fucking son of Jenova getting fed pipe snake up his delicious behind. Can you think of anyone who could top Sephiroth? The funny thing about FF7 is that, ultimately, Cloud does triumph over Sephiroth. But, for almost all of the actual game (and most of Advent Children), it seems like everyone regards Sephiroth as some kind of superior being (which he kinda is). This includes Cloud, who admits that Seph is even his childhood idol. So, even the guy who winds up vanquishing him every time is an unlikely candidate to top Sephiroth. Maybe, if you were writing a story about a very young Sephiroth, like, freshly spawned from Jenova's loins and fresh out of the war against Wutai, maybe that Sephiroth would bottom for President Shinra or some big top dog person... But, otherwise, Sephiroth is too busy being dead or pure badass to be taking it up the butt from anyone... except maybe Hojo...
  7. this is one of those features that you can probably already 'get' yourself by looking up a reviewer's name and messaging them. but, for simplicity's sake, I too would like to see a function built into the Review system where people (at least whoever's story it is) could reply to that person regarding their review. It'd be a good addition. of course it goes without saying you'd only be able to respond to people who reviewed under their account name...
  8. my avatar comes from a manga cover for the Berserk manga. It is a Behelit stone. A Behelit is a small, oval object resembling an egg, with a set of human facial features scattered randomly across its surface, giving the thing a rather disconcerting appearance. It emits a certain aura of unspecified dread. On occasion, it seems as though one of the Behelit's eyes opens and stares at the examiner, though this is usually quickly disregarded as merely an illusion. A key to opening a realm intent of the evil ideal. It is used as a gate of some sorts that grants the desirable wishes of its owner. The origin of the word comes from the Syriac word "Beherit", a Great Duke of Hell — the r turning into an l is an often-made mistake in localization. This Behelit is not the same one that is known as "The Egg of the King", although it is crimson...

    Bad Titles

I always struggle to come up with titles. They're important, but I just can't ever seem to think of one that captures the essence of the fanfic (what I write) and that might attract readers... I used to be pretty bad with some of my titles, at least I think so now... Here they are, close to the order I wrote them in: Twisted Destiny (cliche fail AU title!) When Shooting Stars Fall (look at me writing a deathfic! I'm all brooding and dark!) Carrier (too much Starcraft?) I'm the Merry Jester (it's supposed to be ironic cuz it's angsty...) Snowstorm (lazy... was a fluff fic...) Nothing There Anymore (back to angst fever) Last Reunion (unimaginative...) Memories of You (really unimaginative...) Stupid to Love Him (somehow I still like this one) Unlikely Circumstances (could have been a better title) Where Hearts Crumble and Lie (too much? Well, for a story I never got past the first chapter of... yes... But, I dunno, it's the kind of title that'd grab my interest) Souls Disappear in the Snow (aside from the weak attempt to do alliteration by using the word 'Souls', a title I actually still like) Shoot Me in the Dark (pretty sure me shouldn't have been in caps...) Pale Blue Ink (let's give away the plot twist in the title!) All That's Left of a Memory (angst fever fever!!!) Sex, Substances, Sin, Salvation (I have a problem with S words. I could never think of a title for this one... so I just went with the first thing...) Sin or Spend the Night All Alone (overdramatic) Stuffing the Turkey (i like this one) yeah, so, personally I don't like it when a title is too short and doesn't seem to tell you anything about the story, or when it's super flowery or cutesy. I tend to go towards dark and sad stories, so I don't mind if it's a little over the top in that department.
  10. I love Gundam Wing yaoi... and i do alot of work on a hentai/yaoi site!
  11. great topic Shinju. This is something you just wouldn't have seen years and years ago... but now, it sometimes is the best thing to be in a relationship that's open. It depends though... I've been in three open relationships (we were allowed to see other people, even screw around with them, so long as we told each other about it), and it really depends on how much you can trust and communicate with the person. You need to both be okay with the very real possibility of your partner getting stolen up by someone else. If you know the person you're with will be okay with it, and you know you will be too, then everything will turn out fine. But, make sure that they're not just agreeing to it because they see no other alternative, otherwise it's just repressed feelings and bad stuff all around...
  12. honestly, I have a completely different gripe against Fanfiction.net and it has nothing to do with their anti-smut tendencies (I did stop posting my naughty stories there, but, recently, I've seen so many explicit NC-17 fics there that I've gone back to posting smut anyway). What really ticks me off about fanfiction.net (and with this site too, to a lesser extent) is all the auto-formatting and character exclusion they put your file through before it shows up on their site. So, for example, I have a website for my AU story, to help readers learn more about it if they're interested, to answer questions if they're confused. Maps of the AU, extra info on characters, plot summaries, etc. You know, just something I thought would be nice for them. I can't have a link to my site, even though it's relevant to the story, on fanfiction.net I can't even type in the full domain name. It has to be whenshootingstarsfallDOTcom Putting in .com gets that line erased (no matter what else was on it), as well as (for no reason) the line following it. In addition, I have seen entire page breaks disappear from stories. Seen carefully placed line breaks and spacing simply mucked to a 'one line break, everything pushed to the far left side' standard, boring as hell format. Special things like "[Connection 2:] The phone is answered." Turn into "[Connection : The phone is answered." Different font sizes? Please. You'd need to be a whiz at their crappy editor to get those through. I love writing, but I'm not a big fan of the standard static format. Sometimes, tweaking things can really throw a different light on a scene or bit of dialogue. It gives you a VISUAL medium to reach the reader through that's more than just the actual words on the page. But there's almost no support out there on fanfiction sites for things like this. And it especially pisses me off on fanfiction.net because they don't anywhere explain what things aren't allowed or why. That aside, I post here, aarinfantasy forums, fanfiction.net, mediaminer.org (not the best site, but one I've never had any trouble with in all my years there) and on the Gundam Wing archive. I try to share my writing with as many people as possible, even if I have to deal with fuckheads sometimes... So, yeah, I suppose I have somewhat of an ego about it... but not enough to not post there.
  13. this is a decent idea... and i'm pretty shocked how well people are conducting themselves here. Not as blatant review whoring as I'd feared there'd be.. Well, I unfortunately don't have any original fiction that I'd ask you guys to review... I have a bunch of Gundam Wing fanfics, and one Death Note one. If any of you are kind enough to write me a sincere review, I'd be more than willing to do the same for you. Just PM me or respond to this post. Oh, you can find my stories here: http://anime.adult-fanfiction.org/authors.php?no=1296779152
  14. Well, yeah, I love Gundam Wing. It was the anime that got me into anime, and into yaoi. So, I'd like to start a thread here for those fanfic writers who still give love to this fandom. I know it's older, but there are still a bunch of us out there writing! What I liked about Gundam Wing (aside from the pretty boys!): I was shocked to find political and moral arguments being bandied about as much as they were. This actually really got me into the story. I don't think I'd have cared for it if it was more focused on the mecha and silly action sequences. Favorite character: Well, I'm torn... I love Treize, he really made the show for me... But after awhile my favorite character came to be Trowa. I have no idea why! Yaoi, or not to yaoi?: Yaoi please (I'll admit all the slashing done to these boys is pretty ridiculous, but I still think that Trowa and Quatre are as canon gay as you can get without having a blatant homosexual act onscreen). Story you want to promote: My massive, multi-part, alternate universe story: "Sex, Substances, Sin, Salvation". If you've ever wondered what the characters of Gundam Wing might turn out like if they'd been born in our times, living in a modern city, this could be right up your alley. Also good if you like gritty, unflinching drama and plenty of downright depraved yaoi. title: Sex, Substances, Sin, Salvation author: masamune Rating: Adult++ Summary: A chance meeting, an armed robbery, sex, greed, conspiracy and something akin to love. Five young men try to make it in the dark city. They'll need each other, though they don't know that yet. Pairings: Multiple pairings, but primary are HeeroxDuo and TrowaxQuatre Spoilers: Assumes familiarity with the events of the Gundam Wing show, although not required. Feedback: Always appreciated You can read it here: http://anime2.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600021428
  15. only if the reviews are decently thought out... I like to know that people are reading my stories (and not just visiting the page and backing out), but I really can't stand too many 'WRITE MOAR!!! FASTRA!!!' reviews... Makes me feel a disparity between the effort I put into writing and what people put into when they read... All I need is a few reviews every now and then. I don't need a great deal of them, and I won't pull stories if they're unpopular wiht reviewers... just my two cents
  16. um, it's pretty simple... don't read it if you don't like it. Can't take more than five or so tries before you know if you're into that kind of thing or not. Personally, I read, write, and review it.
