    Thank you, Willow…
With any luck, between us all we’ll bring more traffic here. Another little bright side, perhaps.

I deleted my works too from AO3. I left a note on my profile, lightly plagiarized from Bronxie  but I think that’s ok. Pippychick.

Honestly, the clear TOS and standard warns make it incredibly easy to work here. It’s all about the content, not about the person, or any drama they might indulge in. All we need is for the TOS to be followed. That is it. Being a moderator here has a definite feel of serving the AFF community as a whole.
It’s that old thing about power, and people feeling like they’re something they’re not. That doesn’t happen here. We are all just writers and readers. The TOS is easy to understand, simple to follow, and it works.
And if my situation was subject to the AFF way of doing things? A, they wouldn’t have been able to hide their bad behaviour, hence I wouldn’t have bothered to point it out, since they would have done that job all on their own. B, they would have automatically been told over review board chat for all the childish dramatics while someone was going through the sweep. End of. All sorted out without any escalation whatsoever.

It is done by committee according to the OTW site. But mostly, I think they’ve looked at the “Oh, woe is me!” comments of the troll to their anon friend, and the: “She’s being meeeaaannnn to me, and everyone hates me, and fandom is ignoring me, and I am so scared and sad and no good at standing up for myself!” posts, and not looked any further than that. Even though the reason the troll is reacting like that is because they didn’t expect to get called on what they did, ie. by being quoted. They don’t want to take responsibility for themselves, and especially not for their nasty actions. I’m actually starting to wonder if this person is even an adult.

I like it here. Been to a few sites where either the moderators only slam people who they don’t like and everyone else gets a pass, or where there is literally no moderation and you just put up with the stupid crap. Gets annoying fast too. But I haven’t really seen much of that here, and when it does pop up you guys deal with it pretty quickly. I think the Mods do a great job here.
    Ok, enough sucking up

..and this would be why we STOPPED that kind of nonsense years ago, now.  We have a ToS to work within, and a staff that works together to enforce it.  If any one of us feels we cannot be impartial, we ask for an assist and step away from that particular issue being handled.  Moderation by committee doesn’t work.

It’s definitely a what the actual fuck moment, enough so that I’ve removed my solo work from AO3 and amended my profile to reflect (politely) how I feel about their behavior.
Now, given Pip and I have a co-written piece still up there, I do hope the troll drops by that story. I doubt it, because it’s not their OTP, but just in case they are indulging in personal harassment of Pip, I will document it, send it to the Abuse Team, and tell them if the troll isn’t warned, I will require an explanation, in writing, from their Legal Team as to why they are choosing not to enforce their Terms of Service in a fair and impartial manner, with the understanding if I don’t like what the Legal Team has to say, I will ask my attorney to review it to determine if AO3 will be considered culpable in any action I might take.

The appropriate tag for any content involving an alleged new president of the United States is actually NMP, Not My President, and might also require a WS tag along with Contro.

“ I always get a little skeptical when people advertise their stories with 'good quality writing' and 'very detailed', but your's certainly didn't disappoint, in both cases. You managed to provide enough detail to give the reader (me) a solid impression of what was going on without going over the top and expanding on every little meaningless detail. ”

Ok, let me try this again. I created a profile here a million years ago but never really had the time to make use of it. I’ve been writing my whole life and will do so till the day I die. I’ve gone out of my way to reactivate this account so I can post some fanfic ideas that I feel go waaay beyond the mature guidelines of ff.net.
As my username implies, I have a thing for breechclouts, face paint, and spears. I have this fantasy universe concept inspired by Mezoamerican (namely Aztec) mythology, that I intend to use as a backdrop for some of my fics. A vast jungle world, haunted by cruel magics and crueler gods. Within it are ancient stone ruins teeming with treasures. Debauched empires come and go, but its primitive tribes endure despite the hostile landscape, teeming with carnivorous plants, giant animals, and other unspeakable abominations. Think Ravenloft meets Marvel’s “Savage Land” with the grit of Conan The Barbarian.
My favorite Ghibli movie is Princess Mononoke. I am a staunch MRA because I’m sick of masculinity being demonized. I figure I should be upfront about that now and preface it by saying, I am not hear to argue politics, I don’t care. I’m here to post adult fantasy stories and celebrate writing. That said, my works are written to appeal to me, so when I do write pr0n, it will either be hetero or yuri. I don’t care what you think is icky.
While I don’t follow Wicca (I don’t believe in gods or the supernatural), there’s concepts within it and paganism that appeal to me. Namely the veneration of nature, and the concept of the Horned God. A being that encapsulates everything that is great about masculinity. He is the guiding father, the powerful warrior, the just protector, and the savage lover. I wish I had found a role model like that sooner in life, but there you go. All good things to those who wait.
I am also brief and to the point.

If you read our Terms of Service, you will see the following:

Further, the very nature of fan fiction involves the use of material whose copyright is not owned by you. In order for that material to be covered under the Fair Use provisions of US copyright law, you cannot make any form of monetary profit from that fan fiction, which includes soliciting donations to a Patreon account. You can read that here:

The site can face grave legal consequences if we permit for-profit commissioned fan fiction to be posted here. That affects every member, and while you might have seen one person report this, please understand we investigate every report and base our actions on that investigation. In this case, it had nothing to do with the content. If the stories involved snuff and were clearly labelled, there would be no issue. However, accepting money for work based on a copyright you don’t own is illegal, and is not allowed here. You may note none of the stories removed were original works, and no story was removed unless it contained a link to the Patreon account and a statement that it was a commissioned work.

Thing is, we’re actually pretty flexible with this.  If you cover the main aspects of your story in the open tags, and then add “additional tags at the beginning of the chapter”, you can still keep from acting as your own spoiler.
For example, you have a story which is het, set in an alternate universe, and an angst fest.  So your main tags would be MF AU Angst.  Then, you want to get into something which is a BIG trigger for most readers, such as rape, but it’s ONLY in part of a chapter.  You tag in that chapter, at the top.  It’s still an acceptable form of tagging, if your readers don’t like this particular content, they can skip the chapter and wait on the next one.

As I recall, the word “snuff” was included in at least two of the story summaries for the stories I removed. Were it not for the larger issue of fan fiction for profit, I’d have merely hidden the other four and asked that the warnings be made clearer if I did not think the current tags were sufficient. After 6 years moderating for AFF, I’ve been sandbagged by more than enough unexpected content to be well able to know when tags need to be added. I read things every week I’d not read by choice, but I do it because I value what AFF stands for in terms of artistic freedom. And yes, we try very hard to make sure trigger issues are labelled, but the answer isn’t always simple.
For example, I do not consider the Shota or Loli tags an acceptable substitute for Minor1 or Minor2. They are not clearly defined by age ranges, and are anime-specific. Similarly, Noncon is never a substitute for Rape as far as I’m concerned, and I will not accept Noncon in place of the Rape tag. We actually don’t have much snuff fiction here, and while we all might have varying ideas of what constitutes Contro content, we have a clear label for BDSM as well as for SandM. I’m not sure how specific you want Torture to be defined, but I’d strongly suggest having to add tags for every possible act of torture ever conceived of by the human race would be exhaustive to create and not terribly useful. Despite a personal fondness for the Wicker Man, I can’t imagine Ritual Immolation would be a frequent tag choice.
Similarly, I would not recommend free-for-all tagging such as I’ve seen elsewhere. It would completely negate any ability to search by tags, a feature we’ve recently been able to expand, and one which has been requested for quite some time.
But in this particular instance, we were asked to review newly posted material because of unlabeled content. A larger issue was revealed, which resulted in the stories being removed from the site, and which disappointed other readers. The long and short of it is that we’re not going to please all the people all the time, and in this case, I’m not sure anyone came away happy.
