I'll swoop into the conversation, if you guys don't mind.
I've seen this character bashing thing, it is annoying and usually completely random in plot wise. Ha ha, I think I've even done it myself back when I was a teenager, though. I laugh at myself
I haven't really read HP fics, but I agree that it's completely absurd to make a character get over a rape, like, in one night. I too know people who have been victims of that form of violence and I've seen how hard it is to get over that. It might take even for years.
I've been reading mainly Batman fics myself, and I've sort of made my peace with the type of fics I've had issues with. The issues I had were mostly related to the pointless and extreme rape/gore/abuse, especially with the fics involving the Joker, one of my favorite characters. However, lately I've been annoyed by that some writers don't do their background research, especially concidering psychiatry. I know, I know, it's not exactly realistic in Batman canon, either, but even some realism would be nice, please.
