I find it helps, especially on making them different, otherwise, I’d likely make them all the same.  (Though main characters in my stories develop a common liking to go around naked, maybe that says something about … me?  )

Damn… well, I just had a quick look through my profile here. Discounting fic I have going that is joint fic, I have 12, of which 10 I fully intend at some point to finish (if I ever get around to it). Of my joint fic, I intend to finish all of those, which total another three. I also have a number of stories that I haven’t posted on my hard drive that I need to work on, and most of those are original, which brings the grand total to around 18 altogether.

I guess “You!” is on hiatus so… 1? If I ever finish it. The thing is, I worked out who you are. I worked out how your story ended. You… you objected. You want a different ending. Oh, and Kate wants a scratch behind the ears.

Really, I don’t think I’ve ever read a story and thought: “There’s too much/too little sex in this.” If I have criticisms, they’re always, without fail, about a million and one things besides that. Oh, I tell a lie, I have thought there’s too little sex in published works. But that’s an entirely different thing. Most published author’s shouldn’t go anywhere near erotic writing because they really can’t do it at all, lol.

Well, technically, rape isn’t sex, and neither is scat. Rape is a crime of violence, and scat is a fetish which, along with WS, makes me avoid the story altogether. Minor1 isn’t my thing either, but there you have it. I like my characters to be old enough to give meaningful consent. (At least until I kill them off.)

Honestly, I’m a plot fan. I do love some plot with my sex, and I try to write plot with my sex. Sometimes I even succeed, if I don’t get sidetracked with a bit of gratuitous gore, that is. Apparently, I write romance with a body count.

On a side note, I am now worried that there isn’t enough in my story, lol. I just love how I came here with one problem and walked away with another.

I don’t know… I suppose it depends on the characters, really. My chapters are around 5k, and some of my scenes span over two or three chapters at a time. But then, there are three of them, so that might make a difference.
If there’s such a kind of idiot, then I am definitely it, and I make no apology! I think of the characters first, then wonder how I’m going to get them to go ‘at it’ then the story comes along. In that order. But that ’s fanfic. It’s probably different if you write original.

Dude, that’s incredible. A two to three chapter scene? I can barely stick with a plot point for that long, lmao. 
I mean, I enjoy good story in erotica because (to me at least) it makes the actual scenes way more impactful. I want to care about the characters, not just what’s in their pants! I do write original, but I feel like the general principle is the same.

Hmm.. maybe I’m just too cynical (I am getting old now!), but I believe that characters, like people, are mostly selfish. That’s the most realistic flaw you can write into any character, whether they’re yours or not. Sure, they all have moments of altruistic selflessness, as do we all, but I really think at the end of the day the great majority of the world goes around thinking about itself. And usually in quite a small way too, rather than master!villain selfishness. ie. worrying what other people think is probably pretty high up there for most people. Sad but true. I don’t exclude myself from that either.
Whether a character is redeemable or not (let’s imagine they have a more major flaw for a moment) is an entirely different kettle of fish. I don’t think the two are necessarily connected. Bad things happen to good people, the same as they happen to bad people, and vice versa. Doesn’t mean anything. Doesn’t make them better, or worse, than they were before said event. I like irony. I like it when characters doom themselves in surprising ways, and make traps for themselves, sometimes millennia in the making, and they still don’t see it coming. That satisfies my evil muse.
The problem with redemption is that it’s largely a mythical concept. Kind of like: everywhere you go, there you are. You can’t escape yourself. No character is redeemable in that sense. Ok, so a character could maybe stop doing a load of despicable stuff like murder, rape, dismemberment etc. But unless they’ve had some kind of drastic conversion that’s changed them completely into someone else, underneath they’re still pretty much the same dickhead, they’re just.. well.. dry drunk. Sorry, I can’t think of any other easier, short way to describe it.
And then there’s the outside world, and how that can interact, because characters don’t live in a vaccuum. I said I like irony. The redemption of characters can be argued for or against, but if they then go and damn themselves via what is generally supposed to be one of their “good” qualities – what then? Or better still, if on the path to some kind of “redemption” they’ve gotten hold of the very instrument of their doom… then what? If the character really deserves their fate, taking into account everything they’ve done, isn’t that kind of balancing?
Sorry if I wandered off topic a little. I tend to do that a bit.

The scene Anya and Xander have later in that ep is hilarious too. The people singing and dancing about dry cleaning. The ballad about the parking ticket. So many great bits

I don’t know that I have a favorite individual episode anymore, but overall the third season was my favorite season.
(Think this might be in the wrong forum section? As no challenge?   Edit: Now moved from challenges to aimless babble so ignore his line!)

I do love Hush, and it’s got second place for sure. But ‘Once More With Feeling’ will always be at the top for me
