    Thank you so much, Bronx!
Thranduil definitely finds Celeborn infuriating. Doesn't Celeborn know that NO ONE seduces King Thranduil, Master of all those he surveys? Even though Celeborn hasn't admitted to the reason for his visit, Thranduil senses it, and it does not please him. He's a handful, all right. Happily, as it turns out, Celeborn has large hands.
I have no doubt Galion watched the whole spectacle progress with great interest. I must confess I'm very curious about what happened and what was said when he and Celeborn spoke. So curious in fact that I might have to write it.
I'm glad you liked the sex scene. It's always difficult finding a balance as an author between the action, and getting across the emotional resonance you want it to hold. Plus, it takes so much to get Thranduil's character to participate in a scene like that I always worry I've failed him. But he's so sweet and almost vulnerable when he does it's worth all the effort.
Thank you for your compliments! You really give my confidence a boost every time you review, and it's great to see your reactions and responses as a reader. I'm glad that you had a good time reading. *sighs happily*

    Wow… thank you so much!
It’s strange, but I’ve written much of my Sauron/Maglor from Maglor’s point of view, and I know my version of him so well. As well as Sauron does, so when I write a part from Sauron’s point of view, it feels all the more tragic and inevitable. Sauron (at least in my mind) would do this. He would enjoy it. He would be fascinated, and he would find Maglor’s despair beautiful. My job (for as much as I complain about what he gives me to work with) is to try and make it palatable, to make the reader feel an echo of that, and be unable to look away, because Maglor is so beautiful when he suffers. Your review indicates I had some success in that, so thank you!
Also, for completely different reasons, I really needed this today.
Although now I’m feeling that I should have warned you not to read before bed… *little evil laugh*

So I just signed a contract to publish Backdoor Politics which of course means I’ll be removing it from AFF shortly. Fair warning if you are reading the story, you have about 22 hours to finish it. I plan to take it down tomorrow morning (that’s my tomorrow morning and I’m on CET).
Thanks to everyone who read the story (including at least 2 people I know who didn’t enjoy it, you know who you are) and a special big thanks to those of you who reviewed it!
I’ll make sure I post a link in the Great Wall of… thread as to where you can purchase the book once it comes out.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

That’s a slippery slope for us. We are a fan fiction archive, and not an indie publishing press, and we steer very clear of anything involving the exchange of funds even though we do allow original fiction and nonfiction to be posted to the archive.
Work written on paid commission becomes the property of the person for whom it was written. Given that you accepted payment, our Terms of Service would prohibit your posting that work under your account. Similarly, the person who commissioned the work could not post it, because it is not their work, any more than a novel I purchased for my Kindle would be mine for the purposes of posting it online.
Of course, if our admins differ, they’ll let us both know, but that has been my understanding for as long as I’ve been moderating here.

With much help from Nexcess, things are now resolved.  Apparently, someone was attempting either a DDoS or a hack, neither of which was ultimately successful.  Nexcess will be monitoring for unusual activity, and manta2g is adding further security layers to the code.
I'm 90% complete with data restore in the comics subdomain.
For stories where the chapters didn't quite convert right (it's a long and involved process as to why, so I'll not bore you), you'll see black diamonds with question marks in them instead of punctuation.  To temporarily fix this, set the encoding in your browser to Windows-1252.  This will make the punctuation display.  We are manually going through and fixing all these chapters, so that the conversion to utf8 is finally completed.

I’d like to offer paid commission for stories here.  Is that allowed?
No.  That’s the short answer.  And now a more detailed answered for those of you who don’t have the attention span of a hyperactive 2 year old.
Firstly, let’s be clear what we mean by ‘paid commission’.  Basically, you want someone to pay you money to write a certain kind of story.  The commissioner might have the exact details in mind, or they might only supply you with the very basics and leave the rest up to you.  We don’t allow these.
There’s an extremely good reason why we don’t allow paid commission on fan fiction: It’s illegal!  Always has been, always will be.  You can’t profit from someone else’s copy-written works; that’s just simple legal facts 101.  Doing so could land you in a lot of trouble for doing it in the first place, and us for hosting it.
But what about commission on original works?  The answer is still no, I’m afraid.
There’s no law against that, it’s true, but it’s still against our Terms of Service.  Adult Fan Fiction isn’t an indie publishing house; it’s nothing more than a story archive. We just don’t want to go down that particular road.  Everything here is free and we want to keep it that way.
There are other story archive sites out there that couldn’t care less about this, so if this is important to you then I’d recommend trying one of them (and crossing your fingers, if you’re offering commission on fan fiction).  But for us, it’s not allowed and will be shut down the moment we see anyone advertising paid commission services.

    Thank you so much, Bronx!
I am writing this with the events from that little Melkor/Sauron fic in mind, so worse than being Sauron’s slave is being Melkor’s. I had a little plotbunny about Melkor’s having tried out all his torture technique’s on Sauron first, before using those techniques to turn elves into orcs. Sauron is genuinely surprised that Maglor hasn’t lost that light. His own has been missing for a long time.
As to their games. This is going to turn around very slowly, but it will. Sauron already sees it, and he’s already thinking up ways to try and stave it off. But he’s going to fail in that. He does need Maglor, and it shifts the balance of power. Of course, Maglor is going to get quite far before it occurs to him that everything has changed. And while neither of them can afford for Maglor to lose his soul, can Maglor help himself?

When I used Word, I used to run the spellcheck mostly to find and eliminate passive sentences, and to check those stats, because I didn't want them to get very high.
IMHO, in fiction, if you want a reader to follow the storyline and characters, it's really important to be easy to read.
But.. having said that, I kind of think it's important whatever you're writing. I mean "A Brief History of Time" is a great book because it's easy to read and comprehend, and so it lets the reader in. Instead of wading through it, you can relax and let Hawking tell you cool secrets about amazing things.
There are exceptions. Out of curiosity I checked a website to see what some classic authors score like (some of Oscar Wilde's are quite low), and Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass was at the top, but that's different, because it's like reading someone's soul. Robin Williams springs to mind here, ranting about measuring poetry. Whitman's score is a failure of the equation.
Wow.... that's a startling conclusion. Maybe I should always have aimed high.

How to be a Writer – Terry Pratchett
I get asked all the time, in letters and emails and questions from the floor:
“Can you give me a few tips about being a writer?” And you sense that gleam in the eye, the hope that somehow, this time, you'll drop your guard and hand over the map to the Holy Grail or, preferably, its URL. I detect, now, a slightly worrying edge to all this, a hint of indignation that grammar, spelling and punctuation have a part to play (“Don't publishers have people to do all that?” was one response) and that the universe is remiss in not making allowance for the fact that you don't have the time.
So, instead, I give tips on how to be a professional boxer. A good diet is essential, of course, as is a daily regime of exercise. Pay attention to your footwork, it will often get you out of trouble. Go down to the gym every day – every day of your life that finds you waking up capable of standing. Take every opportunity to watch a good professional fight. In fact watch as many bouts as you can, because you can even learn something from the fighters who get it wrong. Don't listen to what they say, watch what they do. And don't forget the diet and the exercise and the roadwork.
Got it? Well, becoming a writer is basically exactly the same thing, except that it isn't about boxing.
    It's as simple as that.

I think a swat or two over clothing is acceptable, and necessary in dangerous situations, but anything above that which involves planning, preparation, bare skin, implements etc is abuse in my book.
It never happened to me, although my mother had this way of grabbing your arm, pushing your sleeve up, and slapping you hard on the forearm ten or twelve times in rapid succession. To this day I still remember how much that hurt.
Mostly, when they wanted to punish me for something or other, they kept me away from my books.
