Thanks JayDee I love writing for you, and will probably do it again. That bodyshock horror thing would be an original story. No fanfiction element at all. I absolutely still intend to write gifts. And co-author fics (I don’t intend to abandon ours, Bronx!).
It’s an imbalance, really. I’m writing very occasional original short stories, and these great long fanfictions with deep layers and involved plots. Ideally it should be the other way around. I should be pouring my heart and soul into my original work, and keeping fanfic just for fun. If I can’t do that… if I have to leave fanfic alone completely to make my work count, then that’s what I should probably do.
tl;dr translation: I’m getting old and I haven’t bloody done anything!

Sorry to hear you feeling that way – you’ve written one of my favorite stories and I still try and encourage people to read it, hence my sig. On the other hand, if you do find something else to do and be creative at – whether original writing instead of fanfic or something else entirely – I hope it brings you success and enjoyment

I heard from someone the other day that the snow in NY was bad, and they were worried their relative who’s visiting might not get home. I thought back to how you’ve described your weather over the years and replied it’s always bad there at this time of year, but now I’m wondering. How bad is it?

@CL Mustafic Thanks, CL Don’t worry about it. I know what it’s like to be a writer rather than a reader.
My dissatisfaction here is aimed mostly at myself. I’ve always known this stuff was more of a popularity contest than a serious test of skill or talent, but like an idiot I just kept on deluding myself, year after year. I’ve got to stop doing it. At this point, it’s just approaching self harm. *shrugs* If I have to write without a response, I may as well do it without posting, and keep trying to do something else. Something different. Until I have something new.

I normally only write original, which isn’t a popular category, so I’m happy if my story gets a single review.  If it gets that then I consider it a success, because I rarely get more than that.  But I just write to please myself anyway.  I really like my story “Ripples”, even though I know I’m in the minority, but you know what, I don’t really care, I like it and that’s all that truly matters to me.  So if others are uninterested in my stories then I don’t really care, just as long as I am.  Now all I need is even a trace of motivation to finish writing the story I started months ago.

Congrats on the kudos! I’m sorry, I feel like I’ve been a terrible reader lately. I’m hoping at some point this year *crosses fingers* I’ll be able to get caught up enough in life that I can start doing things I enjoy again, like reading.   

Honestly, it makes me sadder than I can say to read this. It’s frustrating to think authors here get so little encouragement, and while I know I’ve been guilty of not having time lately to read and review, surely our readers can do something to make authors feel like they’re not tossing words into a vacuum...

For me, it had been over a year since I had last touched the story, so I figured a reading with revise/edit was a good idea.  However, with the episodic nature (ie, a serial novel) of the story made it *really* easy to come up with a new episode idea to add.  Thus, after updating the first couple of episodes, I just went ahead and ripped out the remaining episodes with the intent to repost as I revise.  This makes it easier on the reader to not have to figure out what’s old/new, and easier on DG since I won’t have to pester her about rearranging my story when I post the new episode.
And while doing this, my mind is *also* mulling over the idea I picked up while working on my holiday story.
