The first order of business is to see that ALL his interests are put into a proper blind trust, and not an entity controlled by his children, as he proposed. That is NOT a blind trust, and he knows it full well. It is a conflict of interest at the very least, and must not be permitted. All his business interests must be sequestered.

CL… For what it’s worth, I agree with you both.
I’d be wary of underestimating him though. What Scotland’s experience shows is that he will do anything to change the facts on the ground to take away the argument. It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t keep his promise to the local authority, they can’t take back their planning permission and get the forest back. Hundreds of years of habitat gone forever. He’s an extremely aggressive individual. I think he won’t just make cuts in social services and social security, he’ll reclassify the whole thing for good, automatically locking large swathes of people out of governmental assistance, effectively destroying them as any kind of political force for protest, especially since the senate and the house of representatives are full of republicans too.

All we can hope for is to have wiser and calmer heads prevail, which is unlikely, and to hope the other branches of government cat as the brakes they are supposed to be, to ensure he does not exceed his authority. We all need to be vigilant here, and pray to whatever gods are still listening we emerge relatively intact.
I’ll settle for live kids, myself.

Exactly and now this idiot gets to do that exact same thing on a national level. He’s not going to drain the swamp, he’s going to stock it with more vicious animals than the ones we already have.

IIRC, the git managed to buy a bit of ancient woodland in Scotland so he could knock it down and build a golf course. He got planning permission for this by promising the local authority he would create jobs in his “hotel” and stimulate the local economy. But what he’s done is built a golf course and a private mansion (that should have been a hotel), and where are the jobs? What jobs?

I understand that and their feelings are valid because the US government is awash in corruption from big businesses but they chose the wrong person to make their statement because he’s just as bad as the politicians if not worse and the poorest most disenfranchised will be the ones who pay the biggest price. And then there will probably also be a rise in hate crimes to deal with to boot.

Exactly. The jobs he’s promised won’t materialize because we no longer have the sort of manufacturing base that would hire them. He’ll cut taxes on the wealthy, and the revenue for the government will drop unless he also cuts social programs, like food stamps, and WIC, and housing subsidies, and raises taxes on those of us who can’t afford to lose enough money to defer paying taxes for 30 years.

*nods* I think we are talking about two different types of anarchists. We had the same thing after Brexit, and hate crimes have risen here. I am not sure what the ‘validation effect’ will be in the US. But the fact that these people are armed is really terrifying. Just like with Brexit though, it’s important to remember that most of those who voted for Trump probably aren’t racist, misogynist maniacs: they’re just ordinary, pissed off people who don’t feel like politics is doing anything for them anymore and felt like they had nowhere else to go.

I keep saying that most Trump supporters should have just shot themselves in the head, it would have been a quicker less painful death but now instead everyone gets to suffer along with them when they take away the sad excuse for healthcare reform that doesn’t even start to address the problems but is better than nothing for the millions who had no insurance before and then start chipping away at all the other social programs that many of his voters depend on to keep them alive.

Donald Trump is not like any anarchist I’ve ever met, and I’ve met quite a few. He is establishment.. or at the least, he’s one of those whom the establishment are set up to protect. Even in the face of starving citizens living on food stamps while working full time for fast food franchises. The sickest thing about this is that the people who’ve helped him to win are those he has the least time for, personally and professionally. Turkeys… christmas… *shrugs* So sad.

I know it’s a bad result. It’s an horrific result. But this doesn’t reflect badly on the US as a whole, not really. We can all be fooled, some more than others, especially in these times. We’ve leaned that due to Brexit. The US is full of fantastic, amazing people just like you. I’m lucky enough to know one or two of you, and I believe you (and good sense) will all prevail in the end. Don’t let this one result get you down… not in that way. <3

Honestly,  both of you, a large part of me wants to run, for the sake of my children. But I have never been one to surrender, and I’m too damned old to learn that trick now. Work from within, and pray for an opening to impeach the troll...

If the worst comes to the worst, there’s a spare room at my house, and a couple of settees downstairs. I’m sure it would be a bit eighteenth century fitting you all in, but… *extends hand over the pond*

We’ve had the same issue. The front door to my building was sticking, the lock wouldn’t accept the key, and so on. I was complaining to my daft one, who is, after all, the president of the cooperative board… and who tried to mansplain how locks work to me. But they called in the locksmith, who promptly fixed it so well the handle wouldn’t work. We could get in, but we couldn’t get out.
I told the daft one he could bloody well wait for the bus when he worked late because I was fed up with a five-minute fight with the front door to be able to leave, and wasn’t exiting via the service entrance because the locksmith was incompetent. It got fixed.
