About Me
Sexuality is fluid. I truly believe that what I liked when I was thirteen has definitely altered now that I'm twenty-four. When I was thirteen, I had no concept of feminism, was never really a tomboy, and didn't think that tomboys were strange. I read trashy romance novels that illustrated to me the mechanics of the bedroom. I assumed that every Disney marriage ended something like the way those novels did. Boy, was I sorely disappointed.
Feminism bleeds into my work, sometimes it gushes in like a blue flood on a pantyliner. I feel that it's necessary for both my characters and myself to live in a world that I can control a little better than the world outside. My work plays with gender roles and I enjoy a realisitic biological portrayl of both men and women. Sometimes, my characters will fall into the usual archetypes, but my goal is to help them grow out of them. I'm not always successful. I think that this is where it's important to have reader's feedback. I hate being stuck. Unstick me.
Also, I'm brown. I hope to write high fantasy someday with confidence. And I hope that brown skinned people can somehow make it into that world without having to be orcs, drows, or evil trolls. It's fantasy right? Why not a Nubian empire that spreads north? If you look at European history, you'll see it only begins four hundred years after they liberated themselves from Arabia.
I also like history.
What?
I'm almost like a boring feminist historian...of color.
You should probably be my friend. I'm just saying.
