I would like to be able to remove a content code from an already published work, but cannot figure out the mechanism by which to do so. Please help?

I'd be willing to try. I beta for a friend, but the needs of that project, the needs of my own project, and what little social life I have leave room for another beta project. I adore epic, novel-length stories, and I have a good grasp of the Marvel mythos. I'd be willing to beta a fic from another fandom, but I do copious research, so if it isn't a fandom I'm already in, I may need two weeks or so to watch/read/research whatever fandom source material I can find.

Oh god, that's horrible. Funny, but horrible. The sad thing is I can sort of imagine what that fic would be, and it's like a train wreck. Cannot un imagine.

Carolina (Lucy in the Sky) from the Runaways, and Northstar of the X-men are both out. Northstar even got married, and Carolina is in a relationship with a Skrull, whose gender is sort of fluid. I'm just more familiar with Marvel, but I'd heard Batwoman was lesbian now.

Anything featuring Kili, really. I'm not overfond of M/M, but there doesn't need to be smut to get me interested. I know it's not much to go on, but I just really love the character and apart from M/M stories there isn't much out there. Thanks for reading this, and super thanks if you write a Kili fic.

I know it's been awhile since you posted, but I'd like to take this on. One caveat however, I seem to be constitutionally incapable of removing angst from my work. One point in particular, is that any OC in a fic set in evolution will have an awkward "coming out" story, because it irks me that almost all the kids in that show had families that automatically accepted their mutant gifts. I'm probably going to give Edie a conservative family who tries to hide her after her outward mutation shows up. If that's OK, then I'll be happy to write it. So I was perusing youtube, and came across a fabulous vlog called Geeking Out, about LGBT concerns in various geeky mediums. 'Round about number 7, they discussed comics and brought up something I hadn't noticed before. DC, although they write lesbian characters, has a hard time creating main male characters that are gay (I knew that but it never pinged the way it did watching the vlog), and Marvel, although home to many gay men, doesn't do so well in the fem slash department. Neither of the bigs really looks too hard at trans issues either. So I thought to myself "Hey, Fanfic authors don't have that problem. We may have plenty of problems regarding spelling, punctuation, story structure, etc. but we don't have a problem writing LGBT characters." So the purpose of this thread is to recommend good fanfic portrayals of LGBT characters in the comic fandoms (DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, indies, whatever). They can be cannon representations or not, but they have to be things you'd recommend to a friend.

I was re-watching Leverage the other day with friends, when one of them pointed out that Elliot Spencer has the same last name as Shaun Spencer, and the same ability to pinpoint details about a person or environment ("It's a very distinctive stance!"). So what if they were related? What I'm thinking is a story about what would happen at a family reunion where Shaun and Elliot meet. It wouldn't need to be a slashfic, but I just think those two hanging out, solving a murder, would be a hoot.

I agree with Diizoid, but I have a few things that I really wish people would point out and not just let that egg sit on my face. I have a very descriptive (occasionally florid or over-worked) prose style, that sometimes can get in the way of my plot. I know this about myself, so I try to keep it in mind when editing (I ask myself things like 'Does it matter what precise shade of purple her shirt is?' and 'Can I just say deep purple instead of aubergine?'). But I know that I'm human, and I slip up. One of the best con crits for me is when someone says "this sentence right here, you need to trim that back to under a paragraph." I also have issues with continuity, and because that's also a huge pet peeve when others do it, I like to be reminded when I inadvertently re-name a character. Same issue with not using contractions.

Where are we going to put Marvel's Agents of SHIELD? It's not an Animated Series, nor a Movie, so the existing categories in Marvel 'Verse are inadequate, but I personally feel that putting it in Television (where it might wind up) isn't the answer, because it's an integral part of the broader Marvel spectrum. I'm working on the rough outline for one now, but I'm posting this sort of preemptively, because I really think it needs to be addressed. The show actually comes out tomorrow, and I'm sure it'll take at least until episode 2 for a fic to be written.

I'm looking for a lokitty fic where loki turns into a kitten following the Battle of New York and then gets adopted by Captain America, which he uses to study the Avengers. I read it a long time ago (from my adhd perspective), so I don't remember the title or authors name. I know it isn't much to go on, but I sort of recall having found it through a link on the forums, so it may be on ff.net, as I've combed the archive with little luck. Hopefully someone remembers it.

I completely agree. And as a writer who really does live for reviews, these liars give me a bad name. I love reviews, honestly and sincerely. I may not have dyslexia (thank whatever deity was responsible for that), but I do have chronic depression and intense agoraphobia. These may not seem like they'd be pertinent to my writing, but the truth is, I write to alleviate the depression, and sometimes my readers are the grand total of my social interaction for weeks at a time. Knowing that people read my work, enough that they will write a review, helps me stay even keeled. I don't care if the response is "You switched tenses for no reason here, renamed a supporting character (yes, i did that, this is why we don't type under the influence, kids) and then later a guy who hadn't been introduced showed up out of nowhere and I don't know who he is, etc." I actually like complaint reviews, because they help me grow. Of course, I also love it when a reviewer says "I like the way you did this scene, and your OC has a dynamic personality, etc." Who dislikes praise for their work? My only pet peeve as far as reviews go is what I call anti-flamers, or as Kurahieiritr puts it, fanpoodles. The people who say "Great job, nice work, keep it up!" Ok, so you like it, great, but for the love of the Muses, can you at least tell me why?!? Is my descriptive work the 'great job', or is it my dialogue 'nice work', or should i stay with the pov format I was using, or was something else? I spend more time agonizing over vague compliments than over flaming trolls. Unless I'm writing a fantasy involving the spontaneous-combustibility of troll-kind. Then the logistics of burning underpass dwellers takes top pick.

Thanks! This really helps. I'd been banging my head against walls over the issue about not teleporting himself, but your 'bootstrap' explanation really does make sense. Add in the complexity issue, (living organisms are exceptionally complex all the way down to dna), and he works out perfectly! It also would allow for the fact I'm kinda wanting him to try to save a group of five, but Steve Rogers and my OC wind up alone. Hey, Aysha. How familiar are you with the X-men? I'm drafting some mutant OC's, and their powers are...tricky. Mutation isn't so much science or tech (ps, not to flame but your computer seems to have autocorrected science into since. just fyi), but it isn't so much magic, even though it might look like that. Might fall under 'alien physiology'. Mainly I just want to have a reasonable explanation for a character who can teleport other things (not himself, he has to be out of the field or whatever), but must choose 'living' or 'inanimate' not both. (I.E. he could send you to China, but you'd show up naked, or put a spy cam in a secure location, but no spy with it). It might be I'm making this too hard, but it's moderately important that his power has massive flaws. It'd be a bit too Deus ex Machina for him to have Nightcrawler-like abilities. Plus I really want to put in a scene where he saves the principal couple from certain doom, but they wind up buck-ass nude.

Hey, a few years ago i read this phenomenal AU Kurty, called The Shadow and the Kat. It had upwards of 15 chapters, was fully developed and well written, the whole shebang. I was talking to a fellow AU nut a year ago and recommended it, but when we went to look for it, it was down seemingly for reformatting, with only the first three chapters up. I get the formatting issue, but since it's been long enough that I'm worrying the author has bamf'd off the face of the earth, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. Other reviews have mentioned it being on Nightscrawlers and FF before it hit AFF, but I haven't found it. So, Have you seen this Fic?

I'd like there to be a way I can track the individual votes on my stories, but I don't need to know who voted. I was thinking it would be a click function like Aysha said, but without any names, like the formats on the polling feature: x many people voted ++ y many people voted +++ And so on. That way it would stay anonymous, like it is now, but give me an idea if my 3 average is a lot of folks going 'meh', or just two crank votes bringing down an otherwise high average. Also, if there would be a way to add a hit count tracker on my control panel, to see if the rate of new hit is going up, down or is steady, that would be great.

It's mostly a romance story between a de-powered Steve Rogers (Captain America) and an OC. Just to warn you, the OC has had a tendency towards Sue-dom, so I'm building a back story to give her faults and quirks, but it's an uphill battle. The backstory has some abuse, violence, and non-con regarding supporting characters, but it will not be explicitly shown in the main body, just referenced to explain the OC's weirder quirks. At a future point, some violence/distress may enter the story, but by no means is it the main focus. The story idea was started by otaku330, as a challenge. Otaku is also a beta for some of it, but more betas = less time obsessing = more time writing, so if you want to beta, please let me know! So, lets get reviewing/replying!

I need a quick beta read, and just a one-off is fine, but I'm open to a longer term beta. 1. Give a brief description of what you're looking for from your prospective beta. I would like a beta who can review dialog, pacing, de-Sueification, and the ratio of angst to lightness. My main weakness in dialog is when I have two female characters talking. Most of my friends are male, so two men or a man and a woman aren't so hard, but I never do 'girl talk' in RL, so writing it is nerve wracking. Good knowledge of the Marvel 'Verse is a plus, but not needed. 2. Say what fandom this is for, or if it's an original story. This is in the Marvel 'verse, mostly Captain America, the Avengers, and a few cameos by other marvel characters. I would be willing to take a look. I've gotten very good at continuity and character motive analysis, thanks to my perfectionistic attitude towards my own marvel 'verse stories. Non con doesn't bother me if it is handled in a psychologically accurate way. The main thing that gets me on shoddy non-cons is the unrealistic and semi-Sueish way that some writers treat Stockholm Syndrome. As long as that pet peeve is acceptable, I think I can handle beta-ing for you. Ok, so we all know the mass market appeal of a Scottish brogue, the southern drawl, and the Latino rolling 'R'. But many other accents, just as sexy (to us anyway) go unused.
