We're constantly having people assume that AdultFanFiction is affiliated with FanFiction.net. Let me make this crystal clear for everybody: we are in no way affiliated with FanFiction.net.
"Oh but the names are very similar," you say ignorantly.
Using that logic, stick insects look like sticks, therefore they must be sticks. Sometimes things can look like something else without actually being that thing.
So let me reiterate for the hard of understanding: AdultFanFiction is in no way, shape or form affiliated with FanFiction.net and it never will be.

Yes, I've taken it down for re-write and publication. The decision was made after quite some thought and the realization that the story leads into a series that I'd like explore fully.

Please note that you are being held to the same standard as every other author on this site. You are not being asked to do anything different. If you believe that you deserve special treatment, I suggest you take the time to read your very childish rant above, and consider why anyone who behaves like that should be permitted to maintain an account on a site that is for adults.

First of all, kiddo, you need to be 18 to use this site, which I'm assuming you're not, given how inarticulate your rant is. That is rule number one, and when broken will have your story deleted without notice.
Also, if you plagiarize stories, you get deleted, pronto.
Second of all, the amazing staff on this site works tirelessly to keep this place up and running for us, without pay and in their own time. That is, they all volunteer their time, in between taking care of themselves, their families, their real life shit and real life work.
And just so you know, much of the staff here have been working with computers since they first appeared on the public market, which was probably before you were even born, so the argument that they don't know what they're doing is just laughable.
That being said, they do not monitor content, nor quality (or lack there of) of the work that is posted here.
The only reason they hide stories is when people can't use the tags properly, or other rules about posting, such as excessively long author notes. When stories do not comply with the rules, the staff starts by putting a review on the story, asking for the problem to be fixed, and if that is not met, then they hide the story, and send you an email, stating what needs to be fixed. If you do not fix it, yes, then eventually, the story gets deleted.
So, sweetie, if your story has been deleted, then maybe you should take a breath and consider what you did wrong, instead of putting up a poorly written, angry rant, accusing the staff here of shit that is so untrue that it's utterly laughable.
And maybe you should just wait until you turn 18, and then try again?
And also, this site is completely unaffiliated with any other fan fiction site out there. This is a completely independent site.
    One, very happy customer.
(and sorry, DG, I just couldn't leave it. I'm ok with it if you delete this. )
EDIT: oh, and by the way, I just checked out your AO3 site, and FanFiction.net sites… the links you provided work fine. Both of your stories are still up on AFF, so I really don't see what your problem is.

    Hello Annie Angel,

As one of the moderators, I am very sorry you feel this way about AFF, and that you find the Terms of Service too restrictive to continue posting here. As you are aware from previous correspondence, AFF does not allow Fanmake/Read the Book stories, and does not allow author's notes in the place of chapters.

The Terms of Service have been carefully put together to ensure the best protection is in place for authors, readers, the site administrators, and last but not least the original creators (without whom we would not have fanfiction).

This site is closely monitored and moderated to ensure adherence to those Terms of Service for the benefit of everyone.

If at some point in the future you feel able to abide by those few simple guidelines, then I hope you will post here again.

    Thank you,

    Dafdes

She's actually over 18. The issue was and is that we do NOT allow the type of fiction she wants to post. Where the bulk of it is script and/or book data, and NOT original content. I'm sorry, but we can't allow it. You were emailed multiple times as to why. You insisted on reposting the story, even when you KNEW that we do not allow this sort of thing.
For others reading this, the type of story is what is often referred to as "fan make", meaning the user takes the script from a show (tv, movie, cartoon, whatever), uses it wholesale as the story, and calls it his or her own. Sorry people, posting it with your user name doesn't make it yours, when it can be clearly shown to be the script of something.
You were lucky I didn't delete you outright for plagiarism.

Firstly, I'd like to welcome all the new users we're seeing daily! Glad to have you here! Please do familiarize yourself with the Terms of Service and Content Guidelines. This IS a moderated archive.

    Moderation Status (2014)
Updated monthly. February and March reports (click the links).

    Dribs, Drabs and Doggy Tales
    Current bi-monthly prompt is here
    Current monthly prompt is here

    Category requests and creation
There are a few ways where I'll create a new subcategory, upon request.

First (and quickest), request it in the forum. Directions for that are here. You don't need a forum login to make this request.
Request via email, at technicalsupport@adult-fanfiction.org?subject=New Category. The above rules apply to an email request as well.

Name the fandom in your story itself, by disclaiming it properly. I go through the misc. categories about once a week and create categories for stories where there isn't one.

Please note this does NOT apply to pair specific type categories. For those, I need to see links to 5 pre-existing stories, with the pair that you want the category for.

Finally, if I ask for clarification before creating the category, please provide the information I need. If you don’t, I won’t create the category.

    Common Plot Devices
When one sees a story based upon a plot device that is being used in a fandom (i.e. human AU for Buffy/Angel, creature fics in HP, that sort of thing), do not automatically assume that because your favorite author used the device, it then becomes his or her property. That’s simply not the case at all. Use of a plot device such at that does NOT constitute plagiarism. Further, harassment of authors for USING a plot device that someone else has used, claiming theft, will not be tolerated.

    Author Update Times
Kindly remember that our authors have lives outside of their writing. There are often many things which will delay updates, where updates were regular before. Please be patient with those authors, and understand that their REAL lives must always take precedence to what they post. If you want to know why an author is slow in updating and post that to a review board, ASK, don’t HARASS.

    Tagging your Stories
As authors, you know what story tags apply to your story. If adding the tags to the summary might be a spoiler of some sort for it, we recommend that you add the tag needed in the story, at the top of the chapter that the tag is needed for. There are, of course, certain tags that would generally apply to any story when posted, and those would go to the summary at the time of story creation. List of story tags is here.

    Funding Status
As always, we appreciate and thank everyone who can donate. It's certainly not required of the users, but every little bit helps!

    Staff Added Story tags
Some users will find that their older stories will have tags added. I don't do this for all stories, only the ones we find during clean up, which either need tags which did not exist at the time of posting, or were added a long time ago with insufficient tags. It's silly of us to email the user to fix it after years of it being like that. So, in those for instances, and ONLY those for instances, I fix them. Once I add them, please don't remove them.

    Stories downed by the author(s)
In the course of writing, authors will choose at times to down their work. In that for instance, we ask that you respect the decision made by the author. This means, do not use our forum to ask for copies, or try to pass around material that is not yours.

    TOS Enforcement
Enforcement is done across the board, no favorites are played. It is up to the user to be sure that he or she is familiar with both the Terms of Service and Content Guidelines, and that his or her story is in compliance. This goes back to the fact that this is a moderated archive. This is PART of the moderation.

    Tech Bits
    Transitional tasks-
These are functions that normally the user would do, but while parts of the software are still the old stuff, it falls to me.
Anonymous reviews turned on/off – The default is to disallow. I run a query daily to ALLOW them. If you DON'T want them enabled for you, email me and I'll make the adjustment.
Old format profile – This is currently inaccessible for user edits. Users can only edit the new profile. So, if there is information in your old style profile that you want gone, again, email me and I will take care of it.
    Tech support, directions given
Just to reiterate, when I email out step by DIRECTIONS on how to do something, that is exactly what they are. Not suggestions, but directions. If followed as stepped out, it works very well. This means that the user must follow them in the order the steps are given.

    Center login boxes
The boxes are intended for use for activation and registration ONLY. Once you've activated and/or registered, please logout, then BACK in, using the boxes at the upper right corner of your browser screen.

Our FAQ section has much useful information. Having said that, if you're still having trouble, you can either email tech support, or post in the tech support forum. It can take me up to 48 hours to respond, due to real life obligations. Please be patient, I WILL get to you as soon as I can.
Please remember that the authors you read do like to hear from you! Leave them a review or two, and let them know how they're doing!

Lazy? Lazy would mean no AFF at all. The archive exists because DG devotes a huge amount of personal time and effort so that we all have somewhere to post our stories, and to read those of others.

WillowDarkling reacted to BronxWench in Japanglish in Fanfiction: Must you really, author?
I'm guilty of it to an extent in an RP I'm in. My RP partner is actually studying Japanese, and I'm dabbling for now until I get off my lazy butt and see if I can take a few classes at uni. But I tend to confine myself to endearments and respectful forms of address. I use a conlang version of elven with roots in Tolkien's work, originally developed by Tel'Mithrim for roleplaying purposes.
When it comes to my original fiction and fan fiction, however, there's not a word of Japanese. I don't write in an anime fandom, and my original works aren't set anywhere near Japan. I agree that it's utterly silly in so many applications where it's done, and when it's obviously just whatever is spat out of Google Translame... ouch....

WillowDarkling reacted to Triksyness in Japanglish in Fanfiction: Must you really, author?
I've recently been in the mood for reading some fanfiction for some anime that I used to watch, and I can't help grimacing when at the amount of fics that are riddled with Japanese words inserted into English sentences-- Japanese words that have perfectly acceptable equivalent words in English, and yet the author chooses to use them in their fics anyway. Examples of these words are: urusai, baka, sugoi, hai, gomen, etc.
I just don't understand. Do they think it's cool to include these words? Do they think having these words makes their fic look more authentic or something?
I mean, most of the time, these words they choose to use have loads of alternative English words that carry the same tone or meaning, so it isn't really a matter of something being lost in translation. At the very least, if they're going to use Japanese words, they might as well write the whole line in Japanese, rather than saying something like, "Gomen, for yelling at you." orz
Though, what's even more painful is when authors write the whole sentence in Japanese, but the grammar, etc. is all wrong. I once encountered a fic where the author sometimes releases 2 versions of a chapter-- one with the English dialogue, and the other in Japanese. The latter was more of broken Japanese at best, and made me want to bang my head on the desk. Repeatedly. orz
I can somewhat accept it if there's a disclaimer of sorts that says that the author doesn't really know Japanese. However, there are those who know some basic Japanese grammar, and think that it's enough to write a decent Japanese dialogue. Evidently, they don't know much colloquial Japanese, because all they succeeded in doing was making their characters sound flat.
Is a fic that's not in Japanglish too much to ask? Sometimes, I wish there was a 'No Japanglish here' sign or something, just so I know which ones to skip.

Not to mention those authors who have removed their work from online, and have asked that the work not be circulated. I can't tell you how often we have to remind people in the Search Forum NOT to offer copies of stories.

WillowDarkling reacted to DemonGoddess in A solution to the plagiarism problem
It is an unfortunate fact of life that content placed on the internet is subject to theft. That being said, sure, we've been looking at ways to restrict that sort of thing, WITHOUT going to the "registered users only" thing for access, like some sites have done.
If someone is determined to steal, they are going to steal. Even the lazy ones. With scripts freely available to take php generated content and convert it to pdf, html and other formats, it's a simple copy/paste of the story path to get the content ANYWAY, on any site, REGARDLESS of what's in place to attempt to protect it.
Something else to keep in mind, is that while these scripts are available, they're merely a stopgap for any site, and don't truly stop it. The best way to stop plagiarism is to quit rewarding the authors who do this. Until it becomes something where users are willing to step up and help put a stop to it, in the majority, this will always be an issue for any site.
One other thing to keep in mind, is that whatever IS implemented, I have to be careful that it doesn't affect the search indices abilities to index the site itself properly.

So, you have a story or stories on another website, and you want to add a link to your story on our archive to take people there, and you want to know if that’s allowed?
    No, it’s not.
Why? Because the AdultFanFiction website isn’t a place to advertise stories on other people’s websites. If we allowed that then our archives would quickly get filled with people advertising, not just stories, but everything else, thereby completely undermining the whole purpose of our website. If you wish to advertise your stories elsewhere then you’re more than welcome to pay to advertise on our website. You can get more information about advertising on AFF here.
You can include links to character or world wikis for your fandom, or fan art that inspired your story, though. Things like this are there to benefit your readers, in helping them to understand your fandom or story better.
What you need to keep in mind is that AFF is totally free to you. You don’t pay to join, to upload stories or to read stories. But it’s certainly not free for us. There’s still the hundreds of dollars that need to be paid every month for the hosting. That’s why we’re very particular about unauthorised advertising.
