  1. I love to use them, but I have been undergoing therapy to get over my addiction. I use them for trailing thoughts, pauses, and to indicate dramatic vocal inflections. I was always taught that three dots, with spaces between, were used in the middle of sentences, and four dots at the end. Three dots and one period, basically. I see that method used in many printed books. After I started writing fan fiction, I ebgan getting lots of criticism for ellipses usage. Some people wanted them spaced, not spaced, used, not used, three dots, four dots, or only used at the ends of sentences. I found that no matter hwo i used them there was always someone who thought it was wrong. So I just imitate what I see in printed books. If it works for Scribner, Plume, Penguin, etc. then it works for me.
  2. Light rock, Classic Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classic country, ( that means before the eighties) New Age, Classical, Songtracks, and 90's Alternative. When I listen to whichever genre depends on what type scene I am shooting for. It has to have good lyrics. Meaningful lyrics, anyhow. When I wrote " I, Pormise" I listed to a lot of Enya, with most of the Harry Potter it was Simon and Garfunkel, and with this story it has been almost everything.
  3. Usually I would just take the previous poster's advice and exclude the word so that the reader can decide. However, not that I've read the 'thesarus', I rather like this term: burgeoning erection Not that I think it would be appropriate for the story I'm writing. Sure way to run readers off. Nothing beats 'wanger' though.
  4. Both. Obviously in fan fiction, there is more stuff that you personally wouldn't know, so you have to rely on imagination. But I believe in trying to write as much of what you know as possible, just to give the story some grounding.
  5. Ah...true. Imagination is a wonderful tool for a writer. I have put in a few things that I myself have not personally experienced, and in retrospect I can see faults with some of the details. However, the longer we live the more we learn. One day, I may well write the M/M. It certainly doesn't gross me out. Like you said, I just wouldn't want to offend anyone. And when I say offend, I don't mean in the sense that close-minded people get offended at anything scandalous; but in the sense that culturally I wouldn't wish to insult anyone.
  6. Well, I have never been to a psychologist/therapist/etc. so I guess no news is good news. I don't believe I have a disorder either. ( which is a sure sign of craziness. I mean, did Caligula believe he was crazy? Noooooo...).
  7. I've read lot's of good M/M and F/F fictions, so I have no problems with people writing them. I just don't feel I have the experience to write them well enough. You are very lucky to have a such a helpful friend, and he is lucky to have such an openminded friend as yourself.
  8. Aha! Jinxed! So now I know the secret!
  9. I won't write about minors in sexual situations. Not so much from any ethical standpoint, because to write about something does not necessarily mean to advocate it, but because it holds no interest for me. I can't get into it reading it, so I wouldn't enjoy writing it. Also, I would never presume to write sex scenes between two men, since, because I am not a guy, I couldn't accurately capture the emotions and psychology. Anything else is fair game I figure. I like how writing gives us the chance to explore and test ourselves on new horizons.
  10. I most certainly would. I want them to write lots and lots of fan fiction for their own perverted pleasure, I want them to post it on places like this, and get lot's of views and make lot's of friends who share ships in common with them. As long as I am making all the money, of course. I love being able to write fanfiction, so what kind of hyprocrite would I be if I refused that pleasure to my fans?
  11. Hello! I'm FairlightMuse, and I have been an author here for several years. Love reading the stories, and giving reviews. I mostly write and read Harry Potter, LOTR, and Peter Pan. All het fics; Remus and Hermione being my main ship, I suppose. Right now I am in the middle of a huge HP story-writing project, so I really shouldn't be hanging out on the forum, but I just can't resist!
