Pet Project?

I am looking for an original fiction that I could have sworn was called Thier Pet Project or something similar. It's about a world where there are shifters and another species comes in and takes over the planet. The story focuses on a male shifter who shifts into a big wolf. He is a part of a rebellion fighting against the other species. He is captured by two generals after destroying a ship and the two generals work on "taming" him. The two generals were a more dominant/more submissive pair that answered to a king. 

Sound familiar to anyone?
