The ritual will force Harry to find several soul-mates and with each bonding a bit of the parasite will be destroyed, the ritual will also force the evenements around Harry to aid him find his soul-mates.

So after having casting the ritual and letting the boy on the doorstep of his aunt, the headmaster returns happily toward his castle, preparing the future apprenticeship of Harry with himself, knowing that this horcrux will be destroyed naturally.
