How Long Have You Kept Up A Metaphor/analogy?

I realized today, that keeping up an analogy or metaphor, for a long time, starts to just confuse EVERYONE. xD

Here's the longest I've done this... I was trying to cheer up my friend, over her breakup from weeks ago....
