quamp Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Story here AUSTIN — Texas, the home state of some famous cheerleaders and infamous cheerleading scandals, might one day be home to a cheerleading hall of fame. [snip] Famous cheerleaders with strong Texas ties include President Bush, at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison at the University of Texas. At Texas A&M, Gov. Rick Perry was a yell leader. O.k., so maybe these aren't the best examples... Say, if this thing happens, let's start a petition to get Dazzled in it. She said she was a cheerleader once... Quote
dazzledfirestar Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 The thing is quamp, I wasn't an American cheerleader, as I have never been an American. I have absolutely no business saying where or in this case where not to build the American hall of fame. Believe me, there are definitely better examples of cheerleaders than President Bush is not one of them, but I'm really not in any position to sign a petition. Sorry. Quote
Guest Yhitzak Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Am I the only one who sees a 'cheerleading hall of fame' as yet another monument to the American tendency to idolize stupidity, greed, and poor self-perception? It seems to me that the greatest American cheerleaders (in this capacity, of course) are primarily surrounded with scandals and nastiness. It's frightening to me that -as Americans- we'd rather exemplify people whose backgrounds are glamorous and scandalous than people who actually do good things to benefit the world. I've tried, and I just can't see any humor in this scenario; it's just flat-out sad. Quote
quamp Posted February 23, 2007 Author Report Posted February 23, 2007 While most of what you say is true, nowhere does it say that this is limited to just American cheerleaders. Besides, we want to give visitors a relatively decent role model, now don't we, Daz? Quote

As for good role models... well, I don't fit there either! Quote
quamp Posted February 24, 2007 Author Report Posted February 24, 2007 I didn't say good, I said relatively decent. There's a big difference. You have to admit, based on what I've seen about you, you're a slightly better role model than say, George W. Bush. Then again, a slug is a better role model than him. Quote
dazzledfirestar Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Thanks quamp. I really appriciate that! Quote
Guest echtrae Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Quamp, was that a compliment? Quote
quamp Posted February 25, 2007 Author Report Posted February 25, 2007 Towards Dazzled, yes. Towards George W., no. Not all Texans think he's the best thing since sliced bread. Quote
