megasean3000 Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) I don't think it's good that the archive doesn't have a decent search engine; the one that's currently on use is too confusing to work. Is it possible to tweak it so that it's user friendly and not confusing to manage? Edited May 1, 2010 by megasean3000 Quote
DemonGoddess Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 It's a straightforward boolean database search. The search terms are not difficult to use. The PROBLEM with it, is this kind of search will only get you a max result of 200 matches, and is really not designed to work with such a large database. However, this is something being addressed, but not at this time. The only search that would be global, is looking for an author, and can be executed from anywhere. All other searches need to be done in the subdomain where you'd expect the data to be at. For example, if looking for specific anime title type fiction, you'd be in the anime subdomain before typing in your search term. Then, you have to be certain to select title, or story summary from the search drop down, or it will search by author name. If you're inputting a title, that means you will get no result. Quote
megasean3000 Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 Tried it. nothing. As oon as I comply with it's "Boolean" stuff, it just leads me back to the search page, even though I'm on the Naruto page ^^; It's as hopeless as Hanatarou's chances at getting a girl XD Quote
DemonGoddess Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 You must make sure there are NO three letter words in your search term. That goes for any db search engine. It's too broad a search term and locks the database. As a result, ANY database search function, regardless of program, requires the search term or terms to consist of four or more characters. Quote
DemonGoddess Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 What exactly are you searching for, and what is the search term you're using? I use the search engine all the time, and don't generally have issues with it, other than it only brings up the first 200 closest matches. Quote
megasean3000 Posted May 2, 2010 Author Report Posted May 2, 2010 I'm not gonna name what I search! Why not I reveal my entire fantasies, here and now? But, for example, I wanted to search "NaruSaku BDSM" what do I do? Quote
DemonGoddess Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Okay. Here's what you do. MAKE SURE you're in the subdomain you want to find fiction in. With that search term, it would be the naruto subdomain Input your search term in the box Select "summary", to search the story descriptions click search I did this search, and came up with MANY results. As I did not specify anything other than what you said, it brought up results for BDSM, summaries which contained "Naruto" and summaries which contained "Sakura"; as well as variants of Naruto and Sakura. megasean3000 Posted May 2, 2010 Author Report Posted May 2, 2010 *Before doing this search* If this works, I'll eat my shoe. *After doing search* *Is happily feasting on stewed shoe* Why wouldn't it work before? Quote
DemonGoddess Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 you were probably in the anime subdomain, as the archive defaults to there. Quote
