It was a longer fiction, multiple chapters and while they were still ninja's, I would classify it as an alternate universe story (AU). I remember only parts and impressions. Naruto was described as really tall and strong and Sasuke was more the brains of their outfit; they were on the run from Konoha and travelling. Naruto killed Orochimaru easily when they met. He and Sasuke then were in the wilderness and had no food. Sasuke collapsed and Naruto carried him to house where a mother and her three daughters were living. Naruto 'paid' for lodging until Sasuke woke up and then they killed the women and took over the cabin. Sasuke then went and joined/they found Akatsuki and Sasuke being under a Genjutsu joined up with his brother/the group despite Naruto not wanting to. Naruto eventually had to fight his way out and leave Sasuke who was enthralled by his brother. Itachi 'used' Sasuke until something snapped him out of it and he killed Itachi and found Naruto waiting for him at their cabin. If you know the author or the story I would appreciate the info
