  1. Your story or are you still working on it?

I have several stories that are in the works that have yet to be finished.

I recently finished a story that I started in 2003 about four years ago. I knew I could finish it but I just couldn't get the words down but then the dam broke and I managed to finish the last two chapters in two nights and posted them on my webpage. It is Harry Potter and The Bungling Teacher. A Gilderoy Lockhart story. All PG13 stuff, no sex or anything beyond drugging Lockhart with chocolate made out of laxitives. Yeah, I made him have the runs to end all runs.

But most of my other stories are about four to five years and still not finished, mainly because Writers' Block has hit those stories, even my current story When the full moon hits.

So what is your longest story that you are still working on?

    Beth

  2. I had writers' block on one story that I have tried to finish for over four years.

And guess what? After four years of having a writers' block on that one story, the dam broke open and I was finally able to finish it.

The name of the story: Harry Potter and The Bungling Teacher.

And no, there was no sex scenes that was causing me problems. It was just the story itself.

Now, there is another story, a Harry Potter story that the second chapter had to be taken down and revamped since 2003 and yes, this story has hit the writers' block soon after I took it down to revamp it back in 2003. I still need to finish that second chapter and post it.

But what I end up doing to break the writers' block is to read other stories of mine and soon the juices are flowing for the other one and sometimes it doesn't happen, but I know one day it will break and I can finish the story.

  3. Seeing that the actual culprits aren't likely to come here.

I would love for those people from the site come here and actually see that we do not want to stop and try to understand their words that they write and that all we want to do is help them write a story where we do not have to drag out our dictionary to figure out what word they are trying to write.

I can understand with those who do not speak English as their first tongue, I know of several people who do not speak English fluently but they write it very well and they will accept the critics from others if they happen to misspell a word or two.

But geez! the freakin' newcomers on the site are downright bad! There is one girl in the Bleach catagory who didn't even spell the words right and I think she's from America! What are they turning out in school these days - idiots who cannot spell for shit?

But this one girl, refuses to join the Beta group and even after we asked her to go join, she said, if my memory serves me right here, I don't want to and she said something about not having an e-mail account(I didn't save the post that she said it in as she, then, deleted the story itself a day later. I would have informed my fellow moderators on our group about this girl not having a valid e-mail account. I may send her an official e-mail asking her if she would like some help with her story to make it better from one of the moderators on the site. I'll help the girl out but I don't see her really accepting my aid, since she rejected the offer to go to the Beta group.) So me and another person proceeded to review her story telling her all the words and sentence structure that was wrong.

You would think that she would accept the critic from us and correct her story - right?

Wrong! She deleted the story completely from the site and posted another story riddled with the same bloody ass mistakes.

I refused to even review or look at her story knowing that she would either delete the story and post another one or leave the review up and do nothing in correcting her mistakes. I may review her story and leave her a huge ass corrected story in the review. She may take it the wrong way and claim that I am harrassing her or maybe she will see that I am only trying to help her.

There are several good stories out there but when they are riddled with spelling, grammar and sentence structure mistakes, it makes reading the story so hard to do that most people will rate the story one star or not at all and sometimes leave a harsh review to the author of that story.

  4. Dear author of the roleplay or the story.

How hard is it for you to grab a dictionary to check on how a word is spelled or what it means? Seriously, if you are fluent in English or even if it is your second tongue, you should at least do your best to spell each word out correctly. I hate seeing roleplays and some stories that you do filled with spelling errors.

How hard is it to correct those errors? It doesn't take long, no more than five seconds after you find the word spelled correctly in your dictionary. And yes, you should have a dictionary by your computer desk to make sure if you do not know the correct spelling of a word and you know how it most likely is spelled, don't go about posting it unless you are very sure that the word sounds like how it is spelled.

Almost every roleplay or story that I see coming from you, is riddled with spelling errors. I am so tempted to beta read those parts that you do, so you have at least a sense of what word, you have misspelled. I know the roleplays and some stories are not beta read but geez, a little consideration for your readers would be nice. Sometimes, I cannot even understand what the word you post even meant to be as the word is badly misspelled or done the wrong word itself!

Please for the love of Fanfiction, please, please, go out and buy a dictionary and look up words you do not know the spelling of. Most of the time, you will find the words spelled correctly in them and you will learn how to spell them correctly.

A dictionary is a fanfiction author's best tool beyond a beta reader. Find both a beta reader and a dictionary and use them both as you will not be disappointed.

    Beth

PS: This letter is not directed to any of the authors on the forum but a general view of some authors who don't give a rat's ass about spelling properly in role plays or their own stories.

  5. I have this story that I am working on. I had called the guy's member one too many times cocks or penis in this story and I was told to cut back on the calling it cock or penis.

I thought it was fine with how many times I had stated the member. Now, I am not sure if I should add the various names of the member in the story or leave as is.

But I am looking for names to call that member that could be from the silly to the outlandishly stupid as this story is a Harry Potter story.

    Thanks,

    Beth

  6. Abortion should remain legal.

It is the woman's right wether or not to continue the pregnancy.

The woman might have genetic problems that she does not want to be passed onto her children and she cannot get herself sterilized because the some doctors and the pro-lifers don't think a woman has the right to say what is right for her body.

The doctors and the pro-lifers are wrong, the women have full rights to do whatever to their bodies and what is good for them or not.

If the woman wants to be sterilized and the doctor says no and refuses to give her birth control pills, and the woman gets pregnant, she has full rights to abort the pregnancy if she wants.

The pro-lifers should look at how many people are alive on this planet and then look at how much food they eat and how many areas are used for growing food plants and they will see that what we need is less children born.

I happen to be 36 years of age and I do not want to have kids ever. I got myself sterilized last October 2005. My doctor was very okay with giving it to me since she knew I was childfree and didn't want any.

  7. I've just come across this community on LJ entitled official_aff.

They claim that they're the official community for AFF on LJ, but I didn't recognize any of the members, including the maintainer.

They do link to the main AFF site on their profile page, but I'm still a bit wary. I'm thinking of joining, but I want to be sure that they're not lying about their affiliation with AFF.

So, are any of you with LJs actually members of this group, or have at least heard of them prior to this?

    Hi,

Yes, this is the Official LJ community for AFF members. I go under the name of fanfictionaxis on LJ and on AFF Solaris and I maintain the LJ community for AFF.

The community started back in November of 2005 with just a small handful of members.

I have noticed that there was four people waiting to join I think couple of days ago, so I checked their profile pages out and saw that they were of age as they should be and allowed entry and then found four more yesterday and allowed them entry.

Sometimes the LJ community will be silent for couple of days so don't worry about being bombarded by posts on your friend's page. I notice one or two posts every couple of days.

  8. I recommend Princess Mononoke. I liked it very much and loaned it to my cousin who has two young boys and they loved it.

I would also get Bleach but I'm biased as that is one of my favorite Animes to date, beyond FMA. I saw the movie in Canada when I went to an Anime convention there this past July.

  9. I love to listen to Bleach with the Japanese voices and reading the words of what they are saying. But for me to do that, I have to go to Youtube.com to see the episodes.

So I would say subtitles for me. Besides, I love listening to the voices of the Japanese people when they are doing voice overs. I think they are sexy.
