What one thing do you most regret in relation to one of your fandom's fanfic culture?

The fact that on the one hand, HP fans will read just about anything, but on the other hand tend to be extremely judgemental about other people's pairing and character preferences.

(Speaking about the HP fandom as a collective, not about any specific members of the community)

The fact that the writers for the games can't seem to figure out that romance doesn't have to include angst, stalkers, or a redemption arc. Or STDs, just to toss that one out there.

I regret that so few authors are willing to attempt to write new or unusual pairings in ANY of the fandoms I follow. It's so rare to find the couples/groups I like best, let alone well-written.

Few authors. Very, very few authors. Not a whole lot of material is published.

Then again, I'm talking about a band who casually talks about how they make out with each other. The entire band coming out as bisexual wouldn't surprise most of the fans, if any (according to some of my friends... and coworkers I met last week). So when canon includes homoerotic "undertones" (overtones?) why write unless you want porn?

Hence what I've seen is 99.9% porn. I don't mind it, mind you... but some people might be turned off by that nonetheless. It kinda all ties up to that previous point.

I don't have much to complain about in the RK fandom. Sometimes I read fics in which post-Kyoto arc Kaoru is still violent towards Kenshin. That isn't true to the manga, only the stupid anime. They are in love in the third arc, the Revenge arc. I guess that's a minor pet peeve.

In the Sailor Moon fandom, I wish there were less betrayal fics. It felt like 1:3 had that same plot in order to pair Usagi with a different person.

I am rather disappointed that most of the fandoms I like are very obscure that very few, if any, people actually bothers to make a fanfic/fanart about it.

*nods* Black Blood Brothers is like that and I love it. All the friends I've introduced to it think it's awesome, but the lack of fics and art is a sad, sad thing. :( I started a fic in that category, but my muse abandoned me and, as I haven't seen hide nor hair of it since, I believe something ate it. I'm struggling with the story, trying to lure another muse in. *sigh*

I regret that Inuyasha seems dominated by emo teenage virgins who write the same cliche hot spring mating season stories. Or worse those high school stories where Kikyo is a slut, Kagome is a nerd, and Sesshomaru is a God. Inuyasha is a trouble maker and Kouga is a jock. I rarely see it deviate from this and I've even seen it written in 'gangsta' speak.

I regret Naruto writers can't do more Jiraiya actually being a human with emotion and not comic or sexual relief.

Well, I guess I would have to first point out that I am on a lot of sites but this one, along with FFN are the only ones whose focus is majority fan fiction. While fan fiction as a whole is greatly appreciated on this site, it is looked down upon on other sites. It's basically because the other sites are 13 and up and so it's flooded with band and celebrity fics, a lot of them not well written at all (this coming from a writer who needs a beta badly but I digress...).

I'm rambling -___- But the whole point is that my regrets have nothing to do with my experience on this site fully. I regret that DC and Marvel aren't fully represented and considered obscure. At least DC is. So, really good superhero stories are looked over. I regret that writers who are in my main fandom only focus on the Trinity (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman), Young Justice or Green Arrow for the most part.

I also regret that there isn't much activity in the Final Fantasy fandom. Then again, I am a nostalgic person so it may be that no one is interested in the Final Fantasy series anymore other than myself!

This sounds about right. I recently got heavy into One Piece, and have been trying to find adult material of my favorite character, Brook. But, of course, there is pretty much nothing. It seems everyone would rather keep writing fics about Sanji and Zoro, than come up with interesting ways for Brook to join the fun. I found one fic invovling him, but the way certain things were worded really turned me off from reading the entire story. I'm currently working on something myself involving him and my OP OC, but I am not a writer by any stretch of the imagination, so it's going to need a lot of work. Hopefully people check the Beta section often enough that I can get some help when I'm ready for it.
