    Ahem. *Gets on soap box*

    What the fuck? I mean seriously what the fuck? How the shit can an agent reject a query letter with material within three hours of receiving it and then have the audacity to say “I’d give you feed back but it’d be overwhelming” in your form letter with links that have nothing at all to do with the material sent. The shit? Seriously? Are you fucking kidding me? As someone who is college educated you can’t analyze dick in three hours to come up with “overwhelming” anything—assuming you read it the instant I sent the fucking thing. Why don’t they just say the truth, “I glanced at it and don’t feel like reading it sorry.” I’d rather have that than some flat out blatant impossible lie. I’m fine with the rejection, I’m not fine with the glaringly obvious bullshit response. That is all. *Huffs and climbs off soap box*

    Some months ago you may recall I started a book on here called Heart of the Forest, well now it's been published by Loose Id!

    It’s common knowledge elves steal human women in the middle of the night to be their whores, or worse. According to The Dawn, elves are the agents of the dark and to be avoided at all costs.

    As a Cunning Woman, Valentina has never really cared too much about The Dawn or its racist tenets—it probably has something to do with the fact that they burn healers as witches. So when a desperate group of elves bring their wounded leader Aneurin to her door, Valentina agrees to treat him. As his wounds heal, their hearts entwine and they fall in love.

    However, Aneurin has a powerful secret which threatens to tear them apart more than racism of Ersland ever could. And Yorwrath, Aneurin’s brother, is there waiting for their bond to break...with a slave collar with Valentina’s name on it.

  20. Really Neat Writing Tools

    All of this crap is free.

    Now that's out of the way!

    For those of you who didn't know this last week I did a writing sprint with our very own Ayato, where we wrote 50k words in seven days! While looking at neat things to help with focus, ambience and keeping track of things I discovered two really really awesome things that are 100% free to use zero buying, zero signing up just bam you can use it.

    The first is A Soft Murmur http://asoftmurmur.com/or on Google Play or the Apple Store

    It's ambient noise that you can tweak to make it sound like waves, or a crackling fire, creepy singing bowl thing or white noise. So if you're writing a scene during a storm, you turn everything down except for wind, rain, and thunder. Nice night around a crackling fire? Crickets, Fire and a little wind. It even has a coffee shop slider, for those times you want to know what it feels like you're writing in starbucks. It's my new favorite thing next to Google Music.

    Next is Writometer http://writeometer.guavabot.com/or on Google Play (I don't know if it's on the apple store)

    I discovered this app a long long time ago and it sat on my phone and I never used it until last week and now I love it. Remember all of that crazy productivity you get during Nanowrimo and those neat graphs that show your progress, how many words you wrote a day, how many you need to write a day to finish your project on time etc. Writometer does that for you :D It also has a neat timer where you can ear Guavas and you can use these Guavas to purchase time for things like using Facebook or procrastinating otherwise. It also has a little reminder that pops up on your phone if you haven't written by 8 pm.

    And that's it. Both are free and both are awesome and they get my endorsement. :)

    Okay, I'm supposed to be doing a writing sprint so this will be brief!

    I would be willing to donate cover art and my crazy mediocre layout skills to put together an ebook or even a print book, of Tales from the Shout Box, or whatever our last forum writing thingie was (or we could do a new one). That we could give to people who donate as incentive :). Like PBS does, you donate a crazy amount you get ebook, you donate a crazier amount, you get a print copy, you donate an amount that shows you have entirely too much disposable income you get a signed copy of the print book and a cat plushie or something. Anyway it was a crazy idea I had :) Granted this would require everyone's consent to use their work etc, but other than that I think it would be a neat way to thank you people who donate like 30 dollars and up or something like that.

  24. Writing fanfiction vs. Plagarism Where

    I think it would be a little jarring to see a certain styles of citation in a story. Especially MLA or APA, those are REALLY intrusive means of citation. If I recall APA you have to cite the entire source the first time you use it, which is (Author, title, Publisher, location, year, medium, page number).

    I personally think you're going to cite a source in a work of fiction should use Chicago Style (CMS for short) as it's less jarring to look at. Take for instance the one time I used a Shakespeare direct quote in one of my stories I used Chicago style/Turubian/Humanities, which is just a little super script number and an end note and not (Shakespeare XI.vi.270-22) next to the text which would have disrupted flow.

    But beyond that this is a common sense issue, I believe the disclaimers handle most things beyond direct quotes etc.
