You: I have a problem, and I’m using Internet Explorer.
Us: Yeah, the problem is that you’re using Internet Explorer!
IE truly is the handiwork of the devil. It’s not just this website that often has problems with things not working properly with IE, it’s a great, great many websites. Any web designer will tell how much trouble they have to go through to make websites IE compatible, and even then not always successfully. Not only is it bad, it frequently has gaping security flaws, as well.
So, you have a problem with something on this website not working properly, or doing something that it shouldn’t be doing? You’ve been given tech support here, without the problem being resolved? And you’re using IE? The solution is almost certainly the crappy browser! But you do have viable alternatives. Here’s a list of the most popular browsers:
    Firefox
    Google Chrome
    Apple Safari
    Maxthon
    Opera
    Comodo Dragon
    Puffin
Even if, for some unfathomable reason, you’re too in love with IE to stop using it entirely, it’s still always a good idea to get at least one other browser, because if a website doesn’t look or function properly in one browser, it might work properly in other. A backup in any situation is always a good thing. So go on, do yourself a huge favour and upgrade to a browser that doesn't suck.

Not to mention that the age verification page only comes up when the cookie has not been set, or the cookies have been cleared from the browser. Having to set a cookie once is not onerous, nor is it requiring our readers to jump through hoops.
This is making a mountain out of the proverbial molehill, frankly.

I think Melrick's summed that up nicely. It's my understanding that there has already been a petition to add this to movies banned by reason of the Geneva Convention when choosing films for prisoners of war.

Chibi, in regards to your "bottom" character... as far as I can remember, homosexual relationships weren't unheard of amongst the vikings, (I mean, they could be stuck on a boat for months at a time, with no women ) but they weren't something that was done out in the open, and it wasn't really talked about. But it was considered less "manly" to be the bottom, and men could get teased about it.
It was considered a great insult to be called a bottom (or the receiver). It had nothing to do with how manly you looked or acted, it was just the fact that you let another man mount you. Vikings killed each other for far less up here.
So, it would not be wholly unrealistic for the bottom to turn the tables on his top and try to top, or as you said, act overly aggressive for no apparent reason, to try and compensate.
Just wanted to share that with you, and hope I can help a bit in the future.

This is a prime example of why the ratings system is flawed:
    Hits [3147] -:- Reviews -:- Average / Total Vote [+++++ / 10109]
More than three times the "rates" than it has views.

I finished reporting all those flames today, and I might go through them again tomorrow, if the website lets me. I am just astounded by how vile that creature is. I translamed a couple of her flames and I was practically in tears it was so vile. So, best of luck to you, Rogue, and I hope more members here will help out. This kind of repulsive behavior has to be stopped.

By the way, before I took this final step, which the user had been warned would happen, I let slide another 2 instances, rather than the action I'm taking now. I considered the user's age (she's quite young), and HOPED that she'd finally get the hint and actually abide by the site rules and guidelines. It didn't work...

    Archive profile

After my first deletion, this is what I had to say:

"Ok, My entire account was deleted and I am not sure why. I tried to sign on and it just wouldn’t work, I searched for my story and it wasn’t their, I searched for my pen name, and it wasn’t there either, so IDK what that’s all about but I am soooo annoyed."

This is what I sent after my eighth deletion:
"My stories have been hidden from Adultfanfiction because they are saying I am under age and this is the fourth time this has happened. I'm not underage."

Want to know when those accounts were created? Here's a list:
    JenMarie – registered May 17, 2009 – 15 years old
    DarkDesire – registered June 1, 2009 – 15 years old
    JenMarie – registered June 6, 2009 – 15 years old
    openmind – registered June 30, 2009 – 15 years old
    JennMarie55 – registered October 25, 2009 – 16 years old
    JennMarie – registered October 25, 2009 – 16 years old
    dontforget1 – registered December 11, 2010 – 17 years old
    XxScriboxX – registered July 16, 2011 – 17 years old
    XxScriboxX – registered May 27, 2011 – 17 years old

But I didn't stop there. Afer they told me they had deleted all my hard work that I wrote while I was a minor, and posted on an adult site with no thought whatsoever to the possible legal consequences to the actual, real, human people that run the site or the owner of the site, I created another account. And another. And another.

I'm also a review whore. That means I won't update unless you review.

And I tell my readers lies.

    Yep.

I tell them that I was of age, and that the site moderators "don't like me." And if I'm not telling them that, I'm telling them this:
"I was over eighteen when my account was deleted (but seventeen when I made the account) and lost all of my work."

See that list above? The account I'm referring to was JennMarie. I was 16, not 17. But, we already know I can't count (reference how many times I say I was deleted, and how many times I actually had been).

So, then I decided that I would just violate other rules. Like flaming.

That's right - I decided to flame the site.
"And on a side note, I hate, hate, hate, HATE, this effing site."

You know what, though? Posting here's a privilege, not a right, and I won't be able to anymore.

Because not only did I do this, I was warned:
"From this point, you will be monitored for any further Terms of Service and/or Content Guideline infractions. Should staff find any more, you will be Hall of Shamed for the chronic violations and permanently banned."

That was after I admitted that I shouldn't have uploaded two versions of the same story.

This is what I was told:
"Normally, the fourth account gets you permanently banned. It certainly has any other user who persisted in returning to the site prior to their 18th birthday."

And that's absolutely true. I was given a chance that all of those other children weren't, ONLY because my account was deleted after I had turned 18. And this has been addressed ad nauseum by the moderators in the forum - just go here:
    http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/index.php?app=core&module=search&search_in=forums
and type in JennMarie or Traded and you'll get a ton of threads about my inability to have consideration for the legal repercussions of my actions.

I told the site admin that I was "unaware" of the risk my presence posed to the site itself while I was underage. But you know what? I tell everyone I'm a history major, and history majors have to read - a LOT. So, I should have been able to read

"By entering these Archives you are stating that you are 18 years of age or older and that you are allowed to view adult material in your area."

"By accessing AFF and/or creating an account I agree that I am at least 18 years of age and legally allowed to view adult related material."

And I should have been able to read the entirety of this document: http://www.adult-fanfiction.org/guidelines.php

I should have paid attention to the last paragraph of the Terms of Service:
"You understand that if any of the above requirements are violated that your account and/or submissions are subject to being hidden, edited, deleted, or being taken control of by the administrators of the site, without notice. You understand that your ability to return to the site after these actions are taken is solely at the discretion of the site's staff and is not subject to discussion."

But I didn't. And those failures are my own, no matter how much I want to blame the staff for them. I received a warning that I would be banned, something that in the past has only ever been sent to still underage children to warn them to keep away from the site if they want the privilege of being here once they're adults.

So because I've decided that I'm entitled to break the rules and regulations of the site, and because I've decided that their warnings meant nothing, I'm not allowed here anymore. I'm permanently banned. You'll never be able to read my works here again. Ever.

Any flames in the forum or to TOS or admin mail about the banning of this user can and will result in repercussions on the flamer's account. Any flames sent to staff members individually will be addressed in the same manner as well. Take note of the Terms of Service you agree to by accessing the site (no flaming is allowed), and understand that those regulations are universally and equally applied.

Guest... Although I highly doubt you'll read this, but I do hope that you will.
I've stayed out of this discussion, because I don't know anything about JennMarie, and I am not a staff member, so I have nothing to do with the deletion or removal of authors and their content. But your unbelievably childish post is just too much to ignore.
First of all, 99% of the people on this site are writers, so they understand very well about writing and losing stories. And yes, by the people here, I do mean the staff members, and the bosses that are responsible for the site.
As for JennMarie being Loyal and Liking this site... Please! Don't make me laugh. If she'd had an ounce of any kind of loyalty, she would have fucking sat on her little hands and waited until she was 18 before posting her stories.
But she didn't. She thought she was special and would therefore get away with posting her stories before her 18th birthday. And she did not do this once, or twice... she did it six fucking times!
It is a legal matter if a minor is on this site, and therefore the staff members are legally obliged to delete them. It is done not only to protect the site, but also the living, breathing people who own and run this site, free of charge, and with volunteer work!
Read that again! They run this site, free of charge for members and maintain it with volunteer work. And because of kids, who can't follow the rules, they are put at risk. And that tells me that those kids are not Loyal or Like this site a whole lot. Nor do you for that matter.
Get off your high horse and read the rules, and then reconsider your words.
If JennMarie's computer crashed, then she either should have had the forethought to keep a copy of her stories on an external drive, or gotten herself one, and copy/pasted her stories onto one, from a computer that wasn't hers. I mean, she must have friends, or have access to public computers at a library or school.
Blaming AFF for the loss of her stories is childish and petty.
As for the staff being rude and abrasive, well, they don't exactly get treated with a great deal of respect much of the time. Just read your post again, Guest. Was that very polite. Were most of the posts before yours very polite? Honestly, the staff got a barrage of abuse from a bunch of kids that just did not want to understand that this was a serious breach of ToS, and then as good as blamed AFF for JennMarie losing all her stories. The staff were bending over backwards to provide people with contact information for JennMarie, so her fans could get in touch with her, and ask for her stories back and tell her she was welcome back if she wanted to, since she had turned 18.
And let me tell you something. The staff gets an extraordinary amount of shit from people who can't follow the ToS, and the staff has to politely ask them to conform to the rules. This can be as simple as correcting a disclaimer, and yet they get yelled and screamed at by little shitheads who think the rules don't apply to them.
Thankfully almost all of the writers follow the rules, and are very patient and polite when needing guidance to fix their disclaimers and other minor ToS violations. But there are always those rotten apples, you know.
As for the Hall of Shame, that is supposed to serve as a warning, as well as a deterrent for Plagiarists! There are very few members of Hall of Shame that have not been caught plagiarizing others. AFF has a very strict policy against plagiarism, and they do actively monitor such behavior. Maybe you should read Hall of Shame before you jump to conclusions. It is a very imaginative and funny way to warn people not to try that on this site.
And finally, what you said about driving "good" authors away from this site... Seriously?
The staff has been doing a bang up job this whole year, just like they did last year, and the year before that, and every years since they took over from the substitute staff that were (not) running this site for a few years before.
And they have not been petty and abrasive or derogatory or childish at all... yeah, sure, they've had their cranky moments, but wouldn't you too, after having shit thrown at you for weeks because someone got deleted for NOT Following The Rules!!
And they have refused to stoop down to this level, in many many cases, and that's why I decided to do it. Someone needs to stand up for them.
And I don't care if I'll get spanked for it. It's worth it.
I really, really want to point fingers, but I won't, but I can say that I know of at least one author who showed far more derogatory and childish behavior than anyone on AFF, after she was banned.
Also, just the fact that you have specifically mention that you are not JennMarie or any other author who's been banned, makes it so much more likely that you are. Not to mention that if you've been lurking on this site since 2002, then you either started lurking way before you were old enough, or you're being seriously childish for your age.
*draws deep breath, and lets it out slowly*
And that, Guest, is how you rant!!
    *exit downstage right*

I'm not offended, but I do think this question is so subjective as to become irrelevant. I don't think my opinions should carry such weight, on one hand, but on the other, I would not give anything such an extravagant rating. It's not telling anyone why I liked it.
I can only speak to things that please me. I like plot. I like complexity and authors that are in love with language. I like authors that respect and stay as close to canon concepts as possible, and who do not write a character so out of character as to be unrecognizable. I like dialogue that's realistic and fluid. I like authors that bother to research things they write about. I like authors that grasp that "adult" does not mean pornographic or filled with gratuitous violence. I like authors that don't feel the need to spoon feed me every detail, who encourage me to use my own vivid imagination and who paint word pictures capable of allowing me to do just that.
Obviously, if someone is only looking for something light, or just some PWP, my rating isn't going to help them very much.

    May I cheer?
In my fantasy based fanfics, my characters wear (or eschew) smallclothes. I seriously doubt elves would be partial to boxers. They'd be awfully bulky under those tight little breeches, after all.
Now, in a roleplay I'm doing with a friend, where my elves have taken up residence in Tokyo, they have discovered boxers, fundoshi under their formal kimono and hakama, and in one memorable instance (but we love him anyway) pantsu.
In my case, I've never liked the basic brief-style underwear for men. I keep thinking of the way they're referred to as tighty-whiteys, and there goes the mood for me. Boxer briefs are better, though, especially those short-legged little ones that Calvin Klein had all over billboards everywhere.

JennMarie was emailed as to the nature of the infraction. It is up to her to correct it. I will not, nor should any of you EXPECT me or any other staff member, treat her differently than any other author when it comes to how site rules are enforced.
As to why the story was deleted multiple times before, it was due to the author being underage at the time of posting. With the reactions I see from her readers, I expect that we'll find many of you to have been either underage at time of registration, or currently underage. If that's the case, many of you will find yourselves deleted as this is an 18 and over site.
Call that ridiculous if you like, but I will NOT endanger this site by allowing minors free reign.

I want to cheer this as well. Although, Bronxie, did the little elf pout at you as hard as he's pouting at me for the pantsu comment?
Pantsu are by the way also known as shimapan, those cute little, Japanese anime meme striped girly panties, for those of you who don't know
As for myself personally, I agree with Bronx on the tighty-whitey front. They make me think of my father, and thus, completely kill the mood. Therefore I have most of my current era characters wearing boxers, or boxer briefs.
For my fantasy novel though, most of my humans wear linen small clothes, or just silk lined leather breeches, the fancier ones opting for silk or velvet pants, with no small clothes, all depending on status and finances. The elves tend to forgo the small clothes too, but it does depend on the elven kin.
But my favorites are my clerics, who wear the most irritatingly complex robe, a thick velvet one for winter, and a slightly thinner cotton one for summer, but underneath they must always wear long flowing linen pants, that have a waistband that reaches up to their ribs and is laced around their torso a certain amount of times, much like their much hated robes.
And yes, they all hate my guts for wanting to dress them up like that, but they are oh, so pretty in their linen pants.

I agree whole heartedly with BronxWench. Open handed on the butt is acceptable, and I draw the line at implements, like paddles or belts. That I would see as abusive.
I do not have kids, so this is solely based on my personal experience. I grew up in a home where the parents never, ever raised their voices at each other, or let us witness any kind of disagreement between themselves, and the only screaming that went on, was between me and my sisters when we disagreed with each other.
I was spanked once in my life.
I was probably about six or seven, and was refusing to eat my food. My father has always been a stoic man, but that evening he grabbed me by the arm, gave me one open handed smack on the butt and threw me into my room, and told me to stay there until I could be more grateful.
And an hour later I went back to the kitchen and ate my cold fish, and never refused to eat again, no matter how much I hated fish. And I was never spanked again, ever.

Seriously, if you dislike the fact that our staff work their asses off to keep this site up and running for us, for absolutely free and for no salaries at all, then what the hell are you doing here?
And you should get your facts straight. I am not a staff member. I am just someone who follows the rules and post my stories here, because this place is open for material that other sites do not allow. And I can't stand it when people hide behind anonymity to curse out the staff who are only doing their jobs. They get enough shit as is, there is no need for people to make a scene in public. And seriously, you call my remarks immature?! You call the staff Nazis!! How fucking immature can you get?
And keeping the Minors off this site is not negative vindictiveness, it is a necessity. If this site were found to allow minors on here, there could be serious legal consequences for the people who stand behind the site. Not to mention that the site would be taken down, and then you'd lose ALL of your "favorite" authors! Which is obviously what you think is just a-okay!
Your energy should be better spent being annoyed at the author who couldn't follow one vital rule. Wait until you're 18 years old. That's it! No matter how well you write, or how many stories you have, just WAIT until you're 18!
So, I just ask again, Scrobette, what the hell are you doing here if you hate this site so much?

Taking off my staff hat for a moment, and speaking just as an author, I would not be terribly comfortable leaving any of my original work up here if it were made easy to download it. My fandom stuff, well, it would be irritating as the hells to find it published elsewhere under someone else's name, but it's not something I could ever have published on my own for profit anyway. My original work, though... I'd be devastated. Seriously. Some of my oneshots in Originals are "outtakes" and character development bits for things I'd like to submit for publication.
I understand that the vast majority of people download something to read with no nefarious intent, and would no sooner plagiarize than they would kick a puppy. I know nothing's foolproof, and a determined thief can copy and paste just as well. I just don't see the point of a fiction archive making it easy for people to steal, not when that archive hosts original works.
That's strictly my opinion as an author, mind you, and it carries only as much weight as that of any other user here.
