Suggestion: Dark Mode

For years, Adult-Fanfiction.org (including the current iteration) has been using very light and bright colors for their websites, which can be a bit painful on the eyes when using the website in the dark. Nowadays, a lot of websites (including other fanfiction websites) give visitors the option to browse the website through a dark skin, which consists of darker colors that’s a bit easier on the eyes in darker locations.

All I ask is for the Adult-Fanfiction.org archive to implement a Dark Mode skin as well that makes use of darker colors instead of light ones.

I also think it would be beneficial if the forums had a Dark Mode skin, too.

It would be so much easier to find the stories that I want to read on here, if it was possible to filter the stories by the pairing, such as HP/HG.

Back in the day when dinosaurs still roamed the earth and your only connection to the interweb was dial-up, your only source for written smut were newsgroups. The two big ones were alt.sex.stories (a.s.s.) and alt.sex.stories.moderated (a.s.s.m.). There, tags were manually put in by the writers rather than selected from a drop down list and to indicate the active characters in a story the letters were repeated, to a point. MF, MM, MMF, MFFF, as examples which gave a clearer idea what to expect in a story. By convention the limit was three with a plus added for even larger groups, MFFF+ for some guy captured by an Amazon band.

Also, MF were the letters used for adults, mf for adolescent teens, and bg for pre-teens, better, I think than Minor1 and Minor2.

Finally, could another checkbox with a blank to fill be added for those really unusual actions? In the first story I’ve posted in my Avatar Tales, First Date (plug!) Zuko brings Lin to climax by fingering her – in the list – but she returns the favor by letting him thrust in her ample cleavage – not in the list. It wasn’t a hand job, exactly, and certainly not a blow job so I could see no way the indicate it.

Back in the years prior to The Great Cleaning of AFF there was a lot of community involvement. Im spoiled being from an era where you posted a story and got reviews.

Im not sure what happened in my time from then to now but there's been a clear decline in reader involvement. People just don't review like they did back in the olden days.

My suggestion needs development. Because its just the inkling of an idea. Or maybe my priorities are in the wrong place and we don't care about reviews like we did back in the day.

But maybe we can create some sort of system where ratings (is there like a 1-5 star rating system?) and reviews generated some sort of rank system on the site. You read. You review. You get something. You have badges the more you do? Something like that. Something to get some sort of discourse going. Maybe authors can remove nonsense reviews or something? So people aren't keyjamming for badges.

Its really just a start of an idea. I dont know what the site is capable of to generate more than the start.

I know there is something already about filtering on subject TV shows or whatever or being able to find certain things without going through the whole fandom but I specifically wanted to specify NCIS because it's such a large fandom that not having a filter is a nightmare because I'm looking for stuff with our lovable resident autopsy gremlin Jimmy Palmer and literally all I'm saying is bunch of Gibbs and Tony Gibbs and Abby Kate and Gibbs which cool but I can literally find nothing for Jimmy and he has a lot of untapped potential and I don't know if it's cuz no one's written for him or if it's because it's so far deep in the rabbit hole that it's just invisible amongst everything else so a sorting system would be awesome based by character or season or episode or whichever

Suggestions for Archive cleanup and restructure

I would just like to submit that Dong Bang Shin Ki and Super Junior, listed in the "Celebrities" -> "J-rock/J-pop" section, are K-pop groups. If a "K-pop/K-rock" section could be added, I would like to request that the bands/artists "Rain/Bi", "Fly to the Sky", "H.O.T", "ShinHwa" (who are currently under "Celebrities" -> "Singers/Bands" -> "S through Z"), "The TRAX", and "Epik High" be added there as well. I have some stories for H.O.T and plan to write some for the others. Also, there is a subcategory under "Celebrities" -> "Singers/Bands" -> "1 through F" called "DBSK" which is just another name for Dong Bang Shin Ki, so those stories should probably be moved to the Dong Bang Shin Ki section even if Dong Bang Shin Ki is never taken out of the subheading "J-rock/J-pop".

Adding Characters to the Pairings List

Is it possible to add additional pairing tags in the Harry Potter > Het – Male/Female section to include Hermione/Thorfinn Rowle and Hermione/Antonin Dolohov?

Please? I have several fics under those pairings and would love to share them with the right tags, rather than just the generic Male/Female tags that isn’t character specific.

I don't have a category but I would recommend a feature to search across all the categories. This will help those who are looking for specific tags, but don't necessarily want a specific category. As it is now, people looking for, as an example, stories with futanari characters, but don't care about what the story is based off of, would have to open up each category (books, manga, original, etc,.), and open up the search area for that category, look up futa, and if they don't find a story that interests them, they would have to repeat it in the next category. This is an inefficient, and tedious method of searching for stories and adding a general search bar to look through all categories would greatly enhance the ease of browing. This would also increase the views of stories that aren't as easy to locate otherwise. While it may be a difficult task to reformat the website to allow this, it is in my humble opinion, as one who has experienced this issue, a worthwhile endeavor that would greatly benefit AFF's ever-growing library.

I don’t know if this is an option or not, I haven't seen it.

having an option to select the individual chapters of a story in a drop down list, instead of having to hit the arrow/next to get to the next chapter would be useful for stories that have a large number of chapters in them.

if this option does exist, how do I enable it?

Archive ebook downloading

I would like to know if there will be a way to download stories as ebooks (.pdf, .epub, .mobi, etc.) I don’t see a kink and I know this archive isn’t accepted by the FanFicFare Calibre plugin. I hope there’s something in the future

Border around Chapter List

It doesn’t really stand out, as it currently is. Honestly, I didn’t even know it was there, until I accidentally moved my mouse over it, and saw the list pop up, a week or two ago. Adding a border or background would definitely help. Maybe also make it so that you have to click it to open it, and it’ll stay open until you click it, again?

Hi, I was wondering if you could add a link to post a review WHEN you’re already on the page with the reviews to a story? And vice versa, an additonal link underneath the story that you’re currently reading next to the “Review Story” button to go to the reviews to read them? That’d be greatly helpful because sometimes when I read a fiction, I want to read the reviews after a couple of chapters just to see what other ppl think. But to do so, I have to jump back way to the front page where all stories are listed and that is quite a bother. The other case is when I just want to check the reviews to a story I’ve already read but maybe not reviewed and want to add my thoughts right there. But to do so, I would have to jump to the story, scroll down and find the “Review Story” button.

I think more people would be inclined to comment if the review and read-review function were easier to access.

Star Rating system for stories

I would really like a rating system inplemented. Dragon prints only keep track of clicks on a story but doesnt really give enough feed back. As anwriter, id like to know how well the reader liked my story, and since bery few actually leave reviews, a rating system would be a better feedback. I realize that sometimes it can be used as a "punishment" if a reader is super negative towards a writer but thats what reporting and things are for. And as a reader, it'd be nice to know whether a story is worth reading by seeing the rating system.

Okay, I'm supposed to be doing a writing sprint so this will be brief!

I would be willing to donate cover art and my crazy mediocre layout skills to put together an ebook or even a print book, of Tales from the Shout Box, or whatever our last forum writing thingie was (or we could do a new one). That we could give to people who donate as incentive . Like PBS does, you donate a crazy amount you get ebook, you donate a crazier amount, you get a print copy, you donate an amount that shows you have entirely too much disposable income you get a signed copy of the print book and a cat plushie or something. Anyway it was a crazy idea I had Granted this would require everyone's consent to use their work etc, but other than that I think it would be a neat way to thank you people who donate like 30 dollars and up or something like that.

so, the recent change to the archive.. is absolutely horrible to navigate via mobile at least, from a tablet it is, the old archive was a lot easier to find stories on, the new larger blurbs are more difficult to sort through, take up much more space and are frustrating, the same with the chapters, which consistently break when reading on mobile, the sentences go beyond the space set for them and causes even more problems reading... I would suggest perhaps an option to use the old version, or even a mobile version of the site. I really adore this place but I primarily use it on my tablet and its become increasingly difficult to do that!

I don't know if I'm the only one that feels this way.. but I really preferred the old archive and chapter setup for use on my tablet
