Ed was able to get Al’s body back, but in return, the Gate burned the arrays into Ed’s skin and ruined his lungs. Ed is dying slowly. At one point, Ed is sent on a mission to find gravediggers that stole Maes Hughes body. After the fight and whatnot, Ed manages to bring Hughes back to life. Also, a piece of the Gate (that I think gets destroyed?) hides itself in Ed’s body. Ed ultimately has to rebuild the Gate and restore balance(?).
