Porn...

I was in the kitchen making supper the other day when a sudden thought crossed my mind (I go on auto-pilot when cooking so my mind wanders): Porn and the difference between males and females.

To the point: When guys reach an age (usually early-mid teens) they get porn (If not from their family then other people). The question is, what about girls? I mean, I might be alone here in thinking, but girls are generally left on their own (or with their friends) to get porn (not counting the internet, or stumbling across siblings porn mags). But is it now acceptable to give females porn mags? And what mags could you give to them?

Thoughts on this?

(I think this is as aimless as it can get laugh.gif )

Well I caught onto porn thanks to my parents. I would go on the computer and find stuff but the um 'joy' of porn didn't hi time until I was actually 18 and I visited my very first Porn Shop. Never knew there was one so close to me, the amazing Kansas City is to thank! So anyway when you first walk in all you see is dildos, vibrators, and movies. then if you happen to look both ways you see sexy clothes and novelty straws, cards, and misc party items.

The only problem with most porn shops is they don't have a lot of videos that are for women unless you like gay porn, and the magazine rack is full of naked girls so I guess it's safe to say girls have to find out on their own unless they ask questions. I always asked questions. My mom found it annoying but she answered them none the less.

I guess I'm a bit lucky in the aspect that my father was one to explain things to me when I asked... sometimes when I didn't ask as well. But I really didn't find any porn until my Godfather gave me a subscription to Play Girl for my 18th birthday. My mom had a fit over that one to be sure ... until she saw the naked pictures of Sylvester Stallone that is.

Most of my exposure to porn has been more in the rehelms of erotica. I mean, I've seen Playboys and Hustlers, (never seen a Playgirl sadly and have rarely found any gay porn that didn't freak me out on some level) but I've always prefered reading about sex over looking at it.

Of course, I've really enjoyed hentai manga in the past, but that's more erotic art so I don't know what the fuck that says about me. Some bondage, s&m porn is pretty hot, too.

Perhaps I just have high aesthetic standards or...I can't stand some of the silly stereotyping and situations exhibited in most pornography. If I'm going to watch two people fucking, I'd rather just watch an attractive couple go at it rather than deal with some contrived or offensive set-up to get from point a to point b. Either that or I just prefer art and my own imagination over real people.

I have to agree with you Iggy. I get off faster when reading than watching porn. I've been told that women are wired that way - more intellectual than visual. Actually though - if you get a chance to check out a Play Girl I would. It's chalk full of stories and the pictures are actually tastefully done - probably because it's geared toward women.

Doesn't everybody have that issue? laugh.gif

I stumbled upon Buffy smutfics on the web when I was 14. Didn't really get access to the mags. Do music videos count as exposure to porn?

I've seen a lot of x-rated movies and a lot of NC-17 from countries like Mexico, Spain, and France. For some reason, they don't affect me. Visuals don't seem to have an arousing effect on me. Hell, they don't have any visible effect on me. My friends have noticed that and two of them seem to be put off by it. The rest of them just kind of shrug at it and say "She writes erotica and she does research. She's probably so used to it that it bores her." That's not exactly it, but I don't correct them.

I'm actually turned off by magazines. I'm not the type to like artificial-looking girls. I like curvy and pretty so long as it looks natural. I'm not offended by mags, but I don't enjoy them.

I like sex toys, and I enjoy reading erotica. The only visuals that appeal to me have some higher aesthetic purpose, but even then there's no arousal.

I do think girls should be exposed to sex stuff at the same age as guys, but I don't think that magazines are the right approach. Erotic literature might be the better approach. The problem with most magazines is that they don't cater to women. If anything, lesbian pics and vids are the worst because they're made for men instead of lesbians. Depending on the way the girl thinks, you could give her gay male porn plus a PlayGirl thrown into the mix and she'll get a good laugh out of it.

If it were up to me, I'd have the same package for both guys and girls: one gay male, one lesbian (that appeals to lesbians), one straight for males, one straight for females, lubricant, a basic sex toy, and two finer works of erotic literature. No DVD because I consider that the next step. I think a package with variety would allow the person to develop preferences more fully by knowing what's out there.

Growing up, I had a friend who's father had a sizeable collection of Playboys and Hustlers. They were quite educational. The only time I actually received such a thing though, was when I was 18 and my girlfriend at the time game me a Playboy. Apparently her and her mother had gotten to read some article about a mafia princess and when they were done, they couldn't figure out what to do with it, so they gave it to me.

Since then, the internet has come along and porn is much more easily gained. wink.gif

I can't say that visuals don't affect me, because they do - quite a bit actually. But then again, so does reading about, or just plain fantasizing about, sex. I guess I'm lucky that way. laugh.gif

I stumbled across my step-father's stash of Playboy magazines (in his home office) when I was about eight years old. I went in there and looked at them whenever I could sneak in and not get caught. I showed them to at least one of my friends and we giggled over them.

The only other exposure to anything sexual came from my mother's 'romance' novels (which I more appropriately call 'smut' novels), and her addiction to Cosmo magazine, which she always left lying around the house.

My first video exposure was movies like Risky Business (the train scene, anyone?) and Clan of the Cave Bear (the scene where Broud takes Ayla for the first time - must have watched that like 15 times in a row blush.gif).

When I was a freshman in high school I got invited over by a couple of male friends after school one day. When I got there they were watching porn - it was my first real exposure. We sat around an laughed at it. Then one of them hit on me and I took that as my cue to leave.

A year or so later I started babysitting for a couple that had a bunch of 'adult' channels. As soon as the kids were in bed, I'd turn the T.V. on and watch porn until I heard them pull into the driveway.

Babysitting also exposed me to my first homemade porn movie. Thankfully, it was a friends regular gig - not mine - so I never had to see the couple again.

By the time I was a senior I was reading more and more of my mother's novels. Skye O'Malley is forever burned into my memory. Incest, rape, sodomy.... Apparently there are sequels, I guess I'll have to re-read it at some point. laugh.gif

Around that same time I discovered what I guess you could call 'soft porn' flicks; White Castle, Wild Orchid, The Kama Sutra and The Lover. Actually, The Lover, both the movie and the original books (The Lover and The North China Lover by Marguerite Duras), is a favorite of mine.

In my early 20's I discovered erotica. I started collecting the three volume series; Erotica: An Illustrated Anthology of Sexual Art and Literature, along with a few others (Anais Nin, most notably). I also got into reading Anne Rice's erotica about the same time.

A few years latter I discovered the joy of graphic novels (thanks to newsgroups). There was one in particular, centered on a woman of course, that was heavy on the BDSM, that I adored. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it. I think it was the main character's name....

Anyway, what was the question again? Oh, yes. I think my point is that I discovered the wonderful world of porn/erotica all on my own, in my own time. Perhaps it because my mother didn't actively hide her smut from me - who knows. But would I go out of my way to give my children porn? No. Not even when they turn eighteen. And honestly, I don't know any of my friends, male or female, who were given it either.

My children won't be receiving porn from me either. I won't hide it... and I never really do - except my toys. For some reason I thought my children would never go into my room without me there as it was one of the rules of the house. I should have known better, as one of them came walking down the hall with a purple dildo and asked me what it was. The only saving grace of that situation was the fact that my mother wasn't visiting at the time. I just explained that it was Mommy's toy and they weren't allowed to play with it.

Besides - in this day in time porn is every where. My kids learn about it from TV, movies, magazines (Cosmo anyone?), friends, the school yard, the internet (even though I do have their computer blocked for "adult" sites some still come through), and just walking down the street. I would be stupid to think I could keep them "pure" from it... and I really don't want to. It's part of growing up, and now that they are almost 11 & 12 I know it's inevitable. That and the fact that I'm not a hypocrite - no you can't look at that it's nasty is not in my vocabulary - but (and this is a big but) I won't be the one to give it to them. I will explain things to them, that is part of my duty as a Mom, but I don't have to like the fact that it means my babies are growing up to be young women - I just hope that they're well rounded and sane...

Well, I'm male, so ... finding porn as a teen-to-be (twelve, I believe) was as simple as discovering what Showtime and Cinemax show after hours.

Then came the Internet, and it's really been a piece of cake.

My older sister discovered porn when she was about 16. She was given a book of artistic nudes by my mother. She and my father were going through a very messy, bitter divorce at the time. Dad gave her the daughter, BTW.

My and my sisters male friend found one of my dads porno tapes. It was a lot of 3 somes (to black dudes one white woman, 3 white women on each other, etc.) My buddy Nick took me to buy my first porn (2005 AMA winner Bella Loves Jenna) which is a fucking excellent movie. Not because of Jenna, just so spankable.

To my knowledge and when I talked about it with my lady friends who are willing to no longger be lady-like and be "one of the guys". Most of them get it from mom or find it from mom/brother. Rather it be Playboy/Playgirl or some gay mag. To my knowledge, they get it from mom or find their brothers stash. Sometimes the brothers stash opens the door to lesbianism, sometimes bisexuality, sometimes just makes them wonder.

Iggy: I roughly agree, I get a hard on with hentai before I do real porn. I have no idea what that means about me either. Probably I'm a sick and twisted fucking indivudal.

Leonhart: If either of you want a subscription try http://playgirltv.com Hell even I'll admit I've seen some handsome men in Play Girl. I've seen ugly men in Hustler, and I've seen some ugly women too. That's why I like real porno more. They're looking out for both sexes to some degree to find beautiful men and beautiful women. If memory serves correctly, women are more stimulated by reading something/hearing about something than seeing it. I'll agree it's best to explain. I don't have kids, frankly I don't want them (I'm 21 right now, sure you may say that'll change I don't think it will when I get a visectomy)

ZombieDuke: NOT ME! I really don't want to see SS with his old and saggy ball sack (I know its a scrotum, but I like the word ball sack). I'm really not that interested in seeing his not so young ball sack. But if given the choice, I rather see a youthful one.

Nanea: Good, odds are if they're watching porn when you come over. They'll want to try some of that stuff with you either willingly or by force. I've read crime articles about both. I love reading about crime, specially Sexual Crimes and Mass Murderers (Like who killed Tupac Shakur and Natorious B.I.G. for murders, Randy Rameriez who's pretty much satan for sexual crimes & murder). The grim side of life entertains me, I'm very facinated by the dark side. Thus I'm a Sith (REFERNCE!). I was turned onto Hardcore porn at like 16, but softcore (you know HBO, Showtime, Cinemax "movies") when I was 10. I wouldn't give my kids access to smut until like 15-16 and not hardcore smut either. Just so they get used to it so that college and highschool don't hit them like a bus like it did my little sister whose pretty much a whore.

Hardykitty: Losers. I wouldn't buy porno for someone's birthday. If we were like hanging out and we say a store that said "1/2 off!" Then we'd be like "OH HELL YEAH, sell it at full. Make back plus more." I'm a profetier to some degree BTW. But I wouldn't buy somone porno for a birthday.

I'm just wondering if it's just me or not: I know everyone prefers someone around their age like a 2-4 year difference. But what about like 5-10 year older? I mean age has experience. I wouldn't mind shacking up with a 35 year old women, she'd probably rock my socks off giving me something I can use later for all my future sexual experiences.

PS: I'm aware of the way I talk about my sister. I hate my little sister, but I love my older sister. I'd take a bullet for my older, but I wouldn't for my little sister. I still have nightmares of goatse.cx just urbandictionary it sometime.

I have two brothers. One is older then me by 5 years and the other by 9 years, so I'd probably date someone around that age range just because it probably wouldn't affect me that much *shrugs*

And for the Steven picture... lets just say my mother and I were rather...saddened. It must have been cold in the studio that day or something laugh.gif

My first experiences with sexual material would be Jean Auel's Valley of the Horses and all the books after that in the series when I was in 7th grade. It was funny 'cause my teacher's always asked if my mother knew I was reading that, as if she didn't hand the books to me ^__^

After that, I had the internet and the allowance to go to any websites I wanted.

I didn't start watching visual porn until AFTER I turned 18 and started downloading it off of Limewire. For whatever reason, because of that, Erotica doesn't really turn me on. Hell, live action porn doesn't really either, but I LOVE Hentai (SO says it's because I'm into weird shit that one can only find in Hetai, i.e., tentacle rape...). Regular porn just doesn't do it for me, unless it's really well done rape fantasy...

TENTACLE RAPE!? That's too kinky for me. I'm an orgy guy. 15 guys on 6 women, that's the stuff I like to see but don't want to read about. TOO HARD to visualize and keep in perspective. Rape really never interested me, they guys force them women to blow them but the women don't think about biting his balls/cock off? Then they enjoy it to the point they wiling screw them a few more times? Unbelieveable if you ask me. I'm very sure that women in real life aren't like that.

When I say rape fantasy, I mean the kind where the woman keeps screaming "no" the whole way through.
