Here are the basic rules for the AFF monthly challenge!

  • On the first day of each month, I will post new writing prompts that needs to be used in some way, shape or form in your challenge response. There may be a single prompt or you may have multiple prompts you can choose from for that month.
  • Your challenge response information must be posted in the forum by the last day of the month.
  • There are four different word counts to choose from - TwitFic: 140 Characters (which includes punctuation marks and spaces); Drabble: 100 words (No more, no less); FlashFic: Up to 1,000 words; or ShortStory: Any length over 1000 words, as long as it’s specifically written for the prompt (i.e. no prewritten stories are allowed), and as long as it’s submitted in time to meet the deadline.
  • The monthly prompt may simply be a single word, or you may have a choice of several prompts (e.g., One Word Prompt, Phrase Prompt, Three Elements Prompt). If there are multiple prompts on offer, you may choose any one of those prompts. You do NOT need to use all of them. However, if you wish to give yourself an extra challenge, then you can choose to implement more than one, or all of them, into your challenge response. You may also write a separate story for each of the prompts given. See below for more details.
  • To submit your entry, please see a sample post below as to how your information should be displayed in the forum and what to include.
  • The Monthly Prompt thread is only to post your story information - Any reviews to these challenge responses you wish to leave should be made in the usual way – at the bottom of the author's stories in the archive. Please do not leave commentary in the topic; those posts will be removed.

Basic Rules for User Submitted Challenges:

  • Please upload your challenges in the correct category within the AFF Archive: http://www.adult-fanfiction.org/ Do NOT post your challenge responses in the forum. If you’re unsure which category within the archive is the most appropriate place for your story, feel free to ask a moderator.
  • Your challenges can be written for any fandom or original categories.
  • If you choose the "One Word Prompt" or the "Phrase Prompt" challenge, your challenge response may or may not include the specific challenge word or words, but it is important that it does include the meaning of the word or words. If you choose the "Three Elements" prompt, your challenge response must include all three elements, i.e., if one of the elements is a diary then your response must include a diary in it.
  • This is more a guideline than a rule. It’s usually a good idea to place an author’s note at the start of your story pointing out that this is a challenge response and the prompt or prompts that inspired your story. You could also place the forum URL that has the prompt. Example: Author’s Note: This is a FlashFic (less than 1000 words) written in response to a word prompt – “Embrangled” – and a phrase prompt – "give it time" – posted on the forum here: http://www2.adultfan...fakeurladdress/

Please note that you may write a separate story for each of the prompts, if you so choose, as long as there's only one of the prompts used per story. So, if there are three different types of prompts on offer then you could submit three separate stories, one for each prompt. Make sure you submit each story as a separate post, and make it clear what prompt you're using. See a sample forum post below for an example.

Sample forum post:
Pen Name: Melrick
Story link: (Link.) (This is the URL to your challenge response located on the archive)
Review replies link: (Link to elsewhere in the forum, if you have one set up. Information on creating a review reply thread is available here.)
Prompts Used: One Word: "cat", Three Elements: "a hat, a chair, a storm".
Type of fic: Drabble
Fandom: Original
Pairing: N/A
Warnings: M/F, Anal, Oral

Please note the “review replies link” in the sample post above. If you have a review replies thread set up for your story elsewhere in the forum, you can place the link there. If you don't have one at first but do later then you can simply edit your post later to include the link. It's not necessary to have one, though. Please note, however, that it’s against the rules to reply to reviews for your own story in the archive by adding your own review. Replies to reviews can be made by creating a thread in the “Fan Fiction” section of this forum. You can read more about this here. If you're unsure how to do this, please ask a moderator for assistance.

Have fun writing!
