US copyright law states "basically" that once something is published in any form that is effectively permanent, it is copyrighted. To help your copyright claim, be sure to date-stamp anything. You can always take the additional step of registering your material. Additionally, the creator of any material owns it, unless they explicitly assign copyright ownership to another. If you have any further questions, you really should check out the US website, US Patent and Trademark Office.
