Qui-Gon has stated that Obi-Wan is ready to move on because he wants to teach Anakin. Something goes wrong and Obi-Wan starts having psychic problems. I remember that it gets to the point that Obi has a complete breakdown, believes Qui is dead and tries to throw himself on what he believes is Qui's funeral pyre.
