  1. Not really. I was the same as well when I first started writing. I never felt like the dialogue was real. I mean, it didn't feel right when I was thinking, writing, and reading it. I also had the problem, and still do, where I didn't know what to write between the dialogue. You know, like: "Hey, man. How's it goin?" It was an ordinary question, but Billy knew something was wrong. His friend George only said, "Hey. It's okay." But when I had the same thing happen when I was first starting I didn't know what to put and ended up with a 'he said, she said' type thing. And like I said, I still do it at some times, but before it was almost all the time. Then there's the problem when it's only as short as that example, when it could've been a paragraph long dialogue like in some fantasy novels. A perfect example of that would be like in The One Tree by Stephen R. Donaldson or any of his Thomas Covenant Chronicles. But I specifically remember The One Tree because there was a time when the First Master(if I'm remembering correctly) talked about their culture, and it went on for like 4 to 6 paragraphs long. The paragraphs were also at the very least 50 words long.
  2. I guess it's worth a try. I've had an idea for a story for a while now, but haven't actually gotten anything down yet. I've been wanting to write it, but never actually set a time to do it. It's only a basic outline. No names, a few character outlines, a little history of the world, and some ideas for fighting techniques. All of it's rather incomplete, but at least it's a start. And I'd have to push myself which I haven't done, but that's what this is for. I hate deadlines, so this might be good for me. *hopes he does well*
  3. It could also be because it's not real. It's not called fantasy without a reason. To fantasize about something is different than actually acting out. I must admit that I like the same thing in fantasy, but I know it's not real. If it was real, then it would be quite disturbing. I like watching hentai, but real life porn disgusts me. A drawing is more appealing to me than flesh against flesh, because let's face it flesh is ugly, dirty, and altogether unappealing. So it could be because as a drawing it's cleaner. It leaves a lot to think about actually.
  4. I've never heard of this. What is it exactly? The main site is a little... vague. It sounds interesting from what they put up, but it leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Like, do you have to do a grand total of 50k words or can you go higher. Or, what can you put in the story. If they're leaving it up to your imagination, then I'm in trouble cause I have a huge imagination. I don't even have enough time to ask all the questions I want. It's been a week, so I don't know if I could make it... unless I stayed up every night and actually be productive. Still, it sounds fun... from what they say.
  5. I absolutely hate it. I went for over 1000 views, just to get one review and that was only because I was threatening to drop the story. I've notice a little trend in the stories I like in the same area, and it's pretty much the same for them. A lot of hits and little reviews. I haven't even gotten a true constructive crit yet either. I was happy that I did get a couple of reviews, and even now a few rates, but for it to happen after I got over the 2000 hit mark is a bit discouraging for me. Especially since I want them to review me to see how I'm doing. I wouldn't mind if someone told me something was wrong, I'm new so I would like to improve, and all I'm getting is hits. I'm in originals and in romance so there has to be a story there. I know it's only one story, but it is a bit disheartening.
  6. lmao nice philosophy But, really, this is something I always hate to see even as a reader. I haven't yet experienced it as a writer considering I only have one story. But as a reader, when I look at the reviews and see people acting like idiots it turns me off. The stories have been good and they're complaining about updates when the writer sometimes updates fairly quickly(in a matter of 2 or 3 days) I know how hard it is to actually write it out. It takes time, and unlike some people a lot of people DONT have the time and yet are still able to update. So like Namrea said, people suck, so expect them to bitch, because more than like one of your reviews will be bitching. Sad, but true.
  7. I'm biased as well towards original fics. I always find them more in depth, and I know fanfics could be the same, but it seems like there's a more bombardment of one-hit smut, so the ones that actually are what I like get buried. I like a story behind it. I haven't written any yet, and I kinda want to maybe do a tenchi, naruto, or some other one, but I don't want to do more than one project at a time. I've been writing the same one for over two years now, and only have 69 pages as of now(I didn't plan on having that number). It all depends on the writer I guess, but there are a lot of people that do have that mindset of "I want to see [insert two or more characters] fuck or get raped."
