Thanks for the insight! That's about how I expected things to be based on the article, but I so like my manly designs XD. But his attitude is indeed going to try and compensate; he'll get teased for it true, but I don't feel like constantly referring to it either. I want it to be something that motivates him, but overall I want thisbwhole story to be positive for him. That's the sort of image I like giving my gay characters, that no matter your sexual orientation, you're still a human being and function the same way as any other person. It by no means affects his abilities.
I might have diverged from my original point somewhere in there XD. But it's something that I like to discuss about.

    Wow...
I haven't done any lurking on FFN for a while, but this is mind-blowing *headdesks.* Definitely gonna report -.-;;..
    I'm speechless. ._.

Windrider Shiva got a reaction from Kurahieiritr in What's your writing process? Do you write without thought or not?
Usually I have some sorta plan when I write. I've thought the most important parts of the dialogue, the locale, the characters, the general feeling. It's like I've watched a movie and all I have to do is describe it. At points, I wish I had the budget to shoot movies, because I could play with camera angles, something that's incredibly hard to write.
There are things I don't intend to happen, it happens, and I work it out. I refine dialogue. I think of better things, of extra scenes, and I just write the crap out of it. Sometimes it's totally out of the blue... and at times, I honestly don't like it. It messes with the images that I already have in my head and it may totally fuck my own ideas up - that kills it for me. So I end up rethinking everything, reimagining scenes, actions and so on. At other times, it flows perfectly, and I'm proud of how things turn out.
So even if I do think when I write... I reach automatic mode eventually. It works. Lately, however, I've been overthinking things and as a result, I can't seem to write anything. I'm trying to fix that though... once again *sigh*.

I'm not a major fan of the exclusively top/bottom relationships within fandoms. For some characters it works, but for most, it wouldn't. It really depends of their personalities and the society or culture they revolve around, and then how they'd react to it...
And most would agree on being versatile.
It's insane how some people are willing to take some characters very OOC to keep with the top/bottom idea. That totally throws me off.
I know not everyone's familiar with Final Fantasy 4, but Kain Highwind and Cecil Harvey are a pretty common pairing. Cecil's more feminine, look-wise - but his personality more or less matches it. He's gentle, true... but for hell's sake, he's not a crying bottom. He's more likely to fight for dominance. If you're going to make him exclusively bottom, at least, go for the D/s relationship based on how it allows him to relieve the stress he's under (ruling a heavily militarized country, the medieval society they live in, etc), while this gives Kain the feeling of having even more power (mounting the king... out of everyone in the world...).
At least something that won't make them OOC. Please.
I'll admit, I like height differences. Small bottom / tall top. I dig it. But I won't do it if it clashes with characters' personalities. That's for fandoms anyways, because when it comes to original characters...
Then again, it depends of the culture they live in. In my original story, both guys are pretty tall (6'2 and 6'4). They have roughly the same build too. They're both warriors. Homosexuality wasn't unheard of, and it wasn't much of a big deal - as long as you were the top, because it meant you were powerful enough to mount another guy, therefore powerful enough in combat. Now the bottom was thought of to be less manly, and more at risk of being "defeated" on the battlefield.
So my "bottom" is an over-aggressive swordsman because he's constantly trying to prove his prowess in combat... because his "top" loves the power of mounting another guy and won't give it up easily. Over time, it'll become the main source of frustration. (But I'm nice, I'll have them work it out).

XD Definitely. My current bottom is not one of those. He's about as manly-looking and -acting as his top, if not a little more generally aggressive because he feels he always has something to prove, even when it may or may not be the case. It's something that I intended to play on his personality a lot right from the beginning. (To quote that website RogueMudBlood refered me to, "Them's fighting words!" would be something I expect him to say eventually).
I don't like the "pretty gay boy that's unable to fight and eventually dies" character archetype, so even my pretty boys tend to be hardened warriors who very well know how to fight.

    Hi hi folks!
I like this idea of having a research help thread! I'm fairly good with Japanese culture and mythology, as well as East-Coast Canada and Quebec history; who knows, it might get useful to someone. I also have general gaming knowledge, developping companies, marketing, MMORPGs, and video game QA (I'm currently working for a localization team for a third-party QA company). If you need French language-related questions, French is my main language (hence my localization job, in French). I'm a Final Fantasy geek too XD.
As for what I need help with... let's start with the basics. *clears throat*
I write slash/yaoi mostly; that, I'm fine on its own XD. I'm heavily inspired by videogame storytelling; I like sword fights, I like action/adventure, I like epic storylines. Combined with my newly-discovered love for what I could call Viking metal, I've taken a liking to the Norse mythology, which has led me to create a plot about a rag-tag team of various people going on a journey, each with their own goal and stuff. Typical action/adventure story with a healthy dose of slash. (I like my gay warriors, seriously, we need more of those in the videogame world. Skyrim is made of win for that.)
My problem is that I have little knowledge of Norse CULTURE. Mythology, I have access to. Culture... it's getting harder to find information. Especially when it comes to daily life, rituals, social/cultural taboos, food and so on. My story will most likely be a mix of the Viking Age idealized epics and the more accurate Norse culture.
So, even if I'm not sticking to either/or parts, I need inspiration to make it a little more believable than the romanced version of the Vikings, but epic enough to make it less boring.
Even if it's just basic culture-related links, I'd greatly appreciate help for this.
Thank you for your help! ^^

    Hi hi .

So after hitting a major block with my previous FFIV fic, Perfection, I decided to upload this fic to AFF - it's already on dA, but I'm not getting feedback, and barely any hits anyways. Maybe the AFF community will appreciate it more. Because I'm not exactly looking for "OMG THIS ROCKS!!!" reviews. I want actual feedback on what people loved, what they hated, how they feel about... well, pretty much everything. Not recommended if you intend to play the game and want to remain spoiler-free. Keep in mind I'm also switching the romance from het to yaoi.

Either ways, I've uploaded the introduction chapter for now. I might end up uploading the first chapter tomorrow, or next week, depending how I feel ^^.
    Title: Destruction Preventer: Lunar Salvation
    Author: ChibiShiva (Me!)
    Rating: Adult+ (for now)
Summary: Stripped of his command over the Red Wings of Baron, Cecil Harvey sets off to redeem himself. What begins as a trip to kill a beast, ends up as an epic adventure to save the world. Retelling of Final Fantasy IV with a yaoi romance. Kain/Cecil-centric, with more coming.
Feedback: Really, really appreciated! Constructive criticism also welcome - though not entirely negative, please.
    Fandom: Final Fantasy IV
Spoilers: The ENTIRE game as the chapters go - it's a novelization after all. URL: http://ff.adultfanfi...hp?no=600082838

Thanks for reading this, and the fic as well!
