  1. Intriguing, very intriguing. Thanks for all of your responses. Hopefully, I have enough info to get my buddy to stop using the term incorrectly now.
  2. Hey everyone, I'm having a bit of a 'discussion' with a friend of mine. He keeps referring to ALL fanfics as "slash" while I have come to understand the term to mean stories about same-sex pairings. He claims that the term originally meant what I think, but has since been bastardized into meaning any type of fanfic. I'd love to say that we are on equal footing here, but he's got people backing him! I was wondering what you fellow fanfic authors and afficianadoes think about this. I normally wouldn't bother, but his improper use of the English language is legendary in our little collective. Tell me what you think, okay?
  3. Thanks both of you, especially you JayDee. I needed the laugh right now. I'm not normally so techy about things, but I've had a bit of a bad start to the year. Again, thanks and I'll try to ignore the morons.
  4. I just recieved a review for one of my stories from someone named Phantomlinker who said that my story had been HOBFFed and gave me a link. I followed the link and was less than pleased to see that it was a forum for bad fanfiction. I don't mind it if people rag on me without my permission, but when they do that to my work, I get a little upset. Is there anything I can do here, or should I just learn to live with ignorant jerks who feel that they need to degrade my stuff in order to be able to bang their girlfriends? Unfortunately, I deleted the review so I can't report it or anything. I just don't know what do do here. Please help if you can. Thank you for your time and attention. PS: if this is the wrong thread for this kind of thing, kindly tell me or transfer it.
  5. Well, I suppose it started when I was working at Kennywood, in the Penny Arcade. Everyone kept going on about kung-fu movies and the silly poses and since I'm tall and skinny they said that I could pull off some of them. Being rather silly, I did the Mantis pose so the guys started calling me Mantis. After that, I started working at Game Stop (Then Babbages) and added Playing to the beginning of my nickname. So, I became The Playing Mantis. I've been using the trimmed down version PMantis along with the ultimate answer to the question of Life the universe and everything as my forum handle for quite some time. Seems a little silly, but since I love gaming and being silly it works just fine.
