I’m part of one, and I’d suggest to allow people to post anonymously if you do want comments. Might be a bit more work to prevent spam stuff, but the site I’m a part of requires someone to have an account and to comment once and get it accepted before they can freely comment. This has resulted in very much a lack of feedback/commentary on our work.

Hmm… question to the party here, as this is a Halloween themed anthology, are we expected to write something that correlates somewhat directly to the holiday itself? Or can we expand a bit from there, as long as it’s got darker/scary/horror like themes that one can come to expect at Halloween?
Was thinking of writing a short second world fantasy story.

I’m in, have something of an idea, but may change. Pretty much everything TBD at the moment.

I grabbed Sinfulwolf way back when I was 18 to join some kind of porn forum, and kinda stuck with it since (30 now). I always get annoyed when I get to a website and find out there’s already a Sinfulwolf there… that’s my internet wide Username! In those cases I go with TheSinfulwolf.

And modern battle kit can be upwards of 80 lbs as well, yet women still wear it. I’ve worn it (Canada has had female infantry since 1989). Let’s not go down that particular route if you actually want to discuss female warriors. Also you’ve been vague on the time period you want to heavily draw from. The “standard plate armour” you spear of wasn’t in use until the later medieval ages as well, yet you were mentioned Spartans and Amazons, who wore much less. “Pre-gunpowder” is a massive stretch of time. Thousands of years. There’s also images and accounts of women wearing chain and plate armour(Joan of Arc is the biggest and most famous one).
So… while maybe not many women may be the same kind of warrior, that can also depend on a society and how much they expect their women to be battle fit.
So, we can actually have a discussion about female warrior types in a world that clearly isn’t entirely historically accurate. Or we can used tired old arguments that people use to try and convince others that women shouldn’t be able to get into Combat Arms trades in the modern military…

I was inspired by a picture. Basically the scene on the couch. And this idea just burst into my head. I knew I didn’t have the time to really write out a full story, so I decided on smutty one shot.

A review for “Closing Time” by Clover Reef. Or Plague Clover… depending whether yer reading her library, or chatting with her.
I can imagine the editing thing indeed. I’m glad you enjoyed the story overall, and that it was indeed HOT! As for the setting and characters… totally made them up on the spot for this one particular one shot. However, I do have a broader setting and a backstory for the world at large and Lili herself. Will I eventually put this down into a proper tale… maybe. I want to finish Blood and Lace first.
As for the critique part. Please, let me have it. I’ve been a bad girl with them spelling mistakes and overlong sentence structure. The lengthy sentences is something I need to harp on myself more to be honest (almost typed “though” :P). Prevent that droning sensation from happening. As for the second point… I’m usually so hard on myself for ensuring that different words are used. Must have slipped in this one. Alas, and alack. Thanks for the points!
And yes… Scottish accents always help.

Nordic Shield Maidens. Germanic Hex bearers. Britannic Hand-maidens of Andraste. Chinese Widow Warriors. I mean, if you’re bringing in fantasy and mythology there’s really no limit to what you can do. Most cultures that had female warriors had them fighting alongside men most of the time. Look at the Scythians (AKA. The real Amazons that the Greeks based their myths off of). There wasn’t a lot from history or myth that had female only, and alas most mentions of females fighting in conflict get swept gently under the rug to be ignored for the most part. Sometimes outright denied.
The Amazons though are interesting. You have the Greek mythical versions that fought like Hoplites in modern retellings, but were heavily based off the Horse nomad culture of the Scythians that were more Egalitarian. A culture which bled into nearby Thrace as well, who also had warrior queens. Then there’s the “Libyan Amazons” much later in north Africa. And of course the female warriors in Brazil that attacked explorers, reminded them of old Greek myths, and had them name it the Amazon rainforest/river.

I’m quite aware of the threads one can make in these forums for just such a purpose. But that really only reaches this audience here, and that really relies on having a catchy title to get someone to click to open said thread. I’m more curious how others go about promoting their work online.
I know everytime I post a chapter I post it on Tumblr and Twitter, and plug out a notification on the various Discord channels I belong to. But how do you folks go about doing it? And any tips or tricks for others to try and promote their stuff where promotions might catch some attention and draw in them Dragon Prints?

Take a read of the existing ones, (& review ):
http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600108028 http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600108385 http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600108780 Just a Halloween element and original is the tradition for the Halloween ones.  Though, I choose to make mine related to my existing stories in some fashion, so in mine, I’ve done:
The Phone: A “haunted” phone Sweater: Bullying’s effects (around Halloween) Bones: Teens in a haunted Indian burial ground on Halloween. For the other round robin, it’s holiday related, so:
The Phone, Part II: Sequel to the phone, (holiday followup) Mistletoe Hanging: A teen boy goes to his school’s winter dance Jump: Helping a veteran on Christmas Eve Baby Shark: Two boys around Christmas And the two boys one, I started having a lot of ideas, too many; so I took the single holiday idea, wrote it, while the rest of the plot bunnies became the longer chaptered sequel, Dale’s Game.
If you do as I do, place it into an existing original universe, don’t expect the readers to have read any of your existing works. (As its kinda why I decided to submit in the first place, to hopefully lure some readers in to my other stories.)

Last year was my first year participating, even though I’ve been on this site since… forever. (I feel like I should technically be like an ancient AFF forest spirit by now) I was just finishing up Cold Snap when Halloween rolled around so I was feeling the loss so it came right at the perfect time for me to jump into a oneshot. I have no idea what the promotion factor is on these stories. Like in theory it makes sense that it’s a good way to reach readers you wouldn’t normally reach. But mostly, for me, the Halloween anthology was a bonding experience with the other writers of AFF.  Getting little glimpses into everyone’s writing styles and review styles, learning how much DP’s characters hate clothes. Just like a big, AFF-style group hug.

Well, sometimes I revisit a theme I used in an earlier submission. And sometimes I get bitten by an entirely new idea. But in general, the primary theme is the occasion, such as Hallowe’en, or whatever anyone celebrates in December, that sort of thing.

It’s a chicken-and-the-egg sort of thing, unfortunately, you really need dedicated fans to really help promote, but you need to promote to get enough dedicated fans, otherwise, it’s just advertising yet-another-smut-story.  And with the type of stories posted here, I’m not going to post on FB, under my real name about it.  I do the promote-a-story for my originals, use them as examples on occasion, and tried to have a bigger presence here on the forums; that’s kinda it.  For my potter stories, I did have a yahoo group for it, where I’d post status, etc, but that required people to join up – fortunately, that other archive does have automated alerts to new chapter posts.
