M Denis Villeneuve had best be working on Dune Part Two, or I shall hunt him down, remove his liver with my bare hands, and offer it to the Morrigan.
And yes, Part One was an enormous improvement over David Lynch’s effort, although I might had chosen differently for the role of Lady Jessica. But by and large, c’est incroyable!

Pondering an angel corruption story… oh why can’t I just keep on track with my WIPs?
-
Aye… creation is messy. It is good knowing I got these words out, and that people seem to enjoy them, but I’m frustrated with my brain this week. Still, thank ye @InvidiaRed
@JayDee heh, no I’m gunna have the angel be corrupted. Dark and gritty fantasy setting. If I can get my brain to co-operate.-

Ok, so last time the news was nerve-wracking, but I’m happy to report that things have improved substantially. My little brother is fine (his symptoms never got worse than the mild ones I described last time), and my middle brother’s wife has tested negative several times now, so it seems she was never infected.
Still sort of nervous about my aunt, but that’s two out of three COVID-related things that have turned out well so far.
With all that in mind, I have some reviews to catch up on. I know Invidia has started reading Mortuus Orbis, and of course JayDee has left reviews of every chapter, and @Sinfulwolf has left three wonderful reviews on the finale of WitS, so over the next few days I’ll endeavor to respond to all of those.
As for what’s coming up next, I have at least two things to work on in the near future. Both of them are science fiction stories tied to another work, one that’s not on AFF and I don’t really want to describe here.
Suffice it to say I make weird friends for who I am. Then again the first friend I made here was JayDee so maybe not that weird.
In the case of the longer one, my co-writer has asked if she could just start writing, so I have to make an effort to keep pace lest I be left behind (as well as work out precisely which of us will be writing what scenes). I know Sparrow may be concerned at the moment, but I don’t quite know what the co-writing process with her will be like, so it may not eat up as much time as one might fear, and after the weekend, I will endeavor to be on Discord more often.
I have another idea for a story called Below, but that doesn’t have anybody waiting for it, so it can be placed on hold until other things get done.
Bringing it all back to the beginning of this post, thank you to everyone who wished my family well and offered prayers and support. You have no idea how much I appreciated all of that.

Haven’t been by here in a bit, and I noticed @JayDee and @Sparrow discussing my absence. I figured I’d give a bit of info on what’s going on. JayDee mentioned work, and that’s part of it, but there’s a little added stress as well.
COVID-19 has begun working its way through my social circle. Among other things, my youngest brother tested positive a few days ago, and his girlfriend lives with him, so it’s no surprise that she’s got it now too. I just learned about his girlfriend, so I haven’t spoken with her yet, but I did have time to call my little brother, and he’s what I suppose you could describe as “mildly symptomatic”: no serious problems with breathing, but he’s congested and running a fever, so I’m somewhat nervous.
One of my cousins has tested positive as well, and the disease is making its way through her family (my aunt is doing her best to isolate herself, but it’s difficult since she lives with them). In addition my middle brother’s wife was exposed today, so we’ll have to wait and see whether she’s infected or not.
Everything seems ok so far, but I’d be lying if I said this didn’t stress me at all.

So, it’s been a rough few days. My mom is in hospital with congestive heart failure, exacerbated by COPD, atrial fibrillation, and Parkinson’s. It’s been one step forward and two steps back for the past 4 days, but at least I’m allowed to see her for a couple of hours each day.
So, if I’m a bit more absent, or crankier than usual, I apologize in advance. -
Well. Five days without Internet thanks to Isaias, and I’m counting myself lucky because I still had power throughout. My neighborhood is mostly private houses and was largely in the dark from Tuesday until about 11:15pm last night. And ConEd is getting an increase this year…

Computer been busted for 2 and a half months now. Had to get a chromebook to get some writing done and post, and have to use data.
So… that’s where I’ve been.

I’m about to start writing the final battle between Luzurial and Eparlegna, which comes in roughly two phases. Let me remind you, that hasn’t been written yet.
Combined word count of chapter and epilogue as of now: 13,115
I will in no way be surprised if I hit 20,000 by the time I’m done. I would just like to apologize to everyone in advance.
For the curious, the previous longest chapter of the story was Chapter 7, at 13,043 words.

I have completed the NaNoWriMo challenge! 50k words written in The Target, which still isn’t completed! Hurrah! Woo!

Excellently done!

It was 27 years ago today that the daft bugger and I decided to do that marriage thing. I have a sneaky feeling it’s working out.
-
Eh. I think you’ll have to keep at it a bit longer. Just to be sure ye know?

So I’m working on Part Nine of The Woman in the Statue (the goal is to be done around the 18th), and I wanted to describe the lobby of the Van Dijk building, but how big is it?
Now I could just bullshit this...but you all know I won’t.
So the building is about 300 meters tall and is a regular octagon in cross section (meaning all eight sides are the same length). If the lobby in which Chloe, Luzurial and the assault team fight hybrids takes up one entire side (“edge” in geometric terms), how big across is it?
Well, if we assume the building has a base diameter of one sixth of its height, then it’s 50 m in diameter and thus has a circumradius (the radius of the circle connecting all eight vertices/corners of the octagon) of 25 m. Each eighth of the octagon can be described as an isosceles triangle with two sides 25 m long (since those “sides” are the circumradius) meeting at an angle of 45 degrees. So now I have to find the missing side.
Just to remind everyone that I am not a math major, I literally had to use Google to be reminded that an isosceles triangle is just two right triangles smooshed together, which I really should have remembered from 9th Grade Geometry. Anyway, since the sine (0.3826834323650897717284599840304) of one angle (22.5 degrees) of a right triangle is equal to the length of the opposite side divided by the length of the hypotenuse (25 m), and then we multiply that result (9.56708580912724429321149960076) by two to get the end of the isosceles…
So the lobby is about nineteen meters wide. Why do I do this to myself?

Why have I never met a female electrician? I get that carpentry and plumbing require a certain amount of upper-body strength, but does electrical work? Or is that profession just an impenetrable boys’ club?
-
Those trades don’t require any more upper body strength than say Policing, or Military, which have females in their ranks. I find these “blue collar” trades are a bit of a boy’s club thing. I had a friend that was trying so damn hard to become a plumber but no one would take her on as an apprentice.

Sometimes I just wanna name my story what it is. Fuck nuance and creativity, this one shall henceforth be called “Porny Monster Fic with Maybe a Cult Too, If I Feel Like It.”

“The Pornographic Tale of a Monster and the Cult that Worships it’s Hedonistic Ways… Should the Author Care to Embellish Such Details That Is.”

As a proud Canadian, I successfully avoided the Trailer Park Boys ever since their unfortunate inception. I thought the whole thing was stupid. The glimpses I got seemed boring and ridiculous and offensive…
Now I’m addicted to the goddamn show. Call help.-
Older cartoon kinda meant for kids. Based off a “Children’s” book series by Brian Jacques. Basically this fantasy world inhabited by anthropomorphic animals… who then slaughter the fuck out of each other. Seriously, the first book “Redwall” was a bunch of brigand rats besieging an abbey that had to learn how to defend themselves, including the fact that they had to take lives in order to protect all those who took refuge in their abbey.
And that book was turned into a Kids TV show.

I took a challenge story back on March 24, and since then I’ve
- Calculated a Hohmann transfer orbit from LEO to the Earth-Moon L4 point.
- Calculated another such transfer orbit (from Jupiter to Earth) to represent the planet-killing asteroid’s fall toward the Sun and thus the Earth.
- Looked up several minor moons of Jupiter.
- Done research into how dark matter can hypothetically collapse into small objects like planets or asteroids.
- Looked into the differences between baryonic and non-baryonic dark matter, to explain why nobody sees the object coming but it can still cause a mass extinction upon impact, and…
- Done research into a proposed space colony (the Stanford Torus) to have dimensions and structural plans for the station upon which our characters escape the devastation being inflicted on Earth.
All of this for a mostly-incest PWP where a young man, his mother, his female best friend and his elder sister must repopulate the human race.
I may have gone overboard.

If yer going off actual biblical references all bets are off for the angels. Might as well look at Lovecraft.

A good dose of Lost Girl, Dark Matter, Flashpoint, Orphan Black, and some Kids in the Hall for the comedic side might help.
