This is a gorgeous idea! I agree, you bust butt to write something and have finally decided you might be a masochist...then you get a review *ray of sun while chorus sings*
I’ve only just started posting on AFF (first chap of a Bleach fanfic; yaoi RenBya) so unless you would be willing to bolster my reviews on ff, I’ll just wait and take you up on that later, since you said ONE free review *tucks free review card in pocket*
The concept is awesome, though. This is a lovely idea, to offer concrit reviews for other authors. I am in awe of your willingness to give that pretty ray of sunshine to someone who might need it

Ohh those ‘the rules are for everyone except me’ kinda people. Doing your job awesomely
Ahh then perhaps I shall see you out there! I understand being more comfy in one place. While I do love AFF, at the moment I’m a bit more comfortable at another site, but only cause I’m more familiar with it
BUT, I am getting more comfortable here each day as I learn about it and meet people and all that jazz lol

    Thank you!
I looked it over and saw where someone was trying to bash AFF. Just..uggh. What’s wrong with people?
Anyways, you can trust that my post will be much more respectful Just cause I’m on other sites doesn’t mean I don’t like AFF. I’m newer to posting stories here, but I’m learning And like I said, I declare y’all as one of my posting places on other sites. Seems only fair. You don’t charge for membership or posting, you’ve got a pretty neat system set up, and there’s this lovely forum community. This is a great site, and I’m proud to be here. Thank you for having me

Hello there, fellow fans of AFF. I’m in love with this site, and am just starting to post in the Archive.
It came to my attention that you can promote your other stuff here, of course with all due respect to AFF. With it being understood that I love and admire THIS site, I wanted to let it be known that I am also at fanfiction.net and Ao3 (also under pen-name SesshomaruFreak) I’m at a couple of other sites, but I gotta double-check those LOL
I write yaoi/slash and while I only have a handful of fics posted across the board, I have notebooks with many, many more written down.
    Long live FanFiction!

@BronxWench Ok, sounds about right. It makes sense not to mention other sites in certain areas of the forum.
I don’t put any links (seems rude to link other fanfiction sites) And if I mention other sites I post on, it’s only in passing. Like ‘Yeah I’m there, too. Now, about AFF...’ because again, it seems rude to talk overly much about another site. Like talking to a boyfriend about another guy or something lol
And I do mention on other sites that AFF is one of my places.
Ohh I wanna find those ‘Great Wall’ threads though That sounds fun. I like making new friends
Actually, since I moved and left all my RL friends behind, I NEED new friends
Love the quotes you have there. English is a bully hehehe
Thank you for your reply, and I’ll behave myself

We don’t mind stories being posted on multiple sites, but we’d rather not have those other sites mentioned on this thread. We have the “Great Wall of...” threads where it’s absolutely fine, and you can mention in your profile that you post on other sites. You can give the name of the site and your pen name there, but linking to other sites is not really encouraged. If that makes sense…

The first thing you should know is that this forum is for promoting your own story that you’ve uploaded to the AFF archive only. That is, no stories that you’ve uploaded to other websites not connected to AdultFanFiction.

With that established, the first thing you need to do is to click on the ‘Start New Topic’ button. In the ‘Topic Title’ area, the simplest thing to put is just the name of your story.

The main body of your post could begin with a brief intro, telling people you’ve posted a new story, or a brand new chapter of your story. That isn’t required, but the following information is:

    Author:
    Title:
    Summary:
    Feedback:
    Fandom:
    Pairing:
    Warnings:
    Solo story or chaptered story:
    URL:
    Review Reply thread:

An example of what it should look like is below:

    Author: Melrick
    Title: An Interesting Story
Summary: A really interesting thing happens, and then something else even more interesting happens! (Here you can write as detailed a blurb as you want to. A catchy summary to entice the reader.)
Feedback: Feedback and constructive criticism much appreciated.
    Fandom: Original
    Pairing: N/A
    Warnings: M/F, Oral, Anal
Solo story or chaptered story: Solo story
    URL: http://original.adul...ion.net/FakeURL
Review Reply thread: Link to review reply thread in the appropriate forum, if and when you make one.

You could, if you like, finish your post by thanking people for reading, or that you hope they enjoy it. And you really should make sure that your spelling and grammar is good, otherwise it won’t exactly leave a good impression about your writing skills!

And that’s all there is to it!

Goodness yes LMAO I can get ridiculously attached to stories.
Luckily, I was already friends with the author. She uses this OC bad guy in quite a few of her stories, and omg I really do wanna kill him  I just so happened to have a vague bad guy in one of mine and asked if I could use her OC with the intent of him being bad guy that hurt good guy-A years ago, and was supposed to have died then. But he turns out alive and good guy-A’s boyfriend, good guy-B is gonna destroy him.   YAY!
LOL sorry for the word vomit here, I just get really excited about my stories

Try my stories!  Working on a super-awesome one where the repairman answers a service call in his underwear ….      [/plug]
Getting drawn in, attached to a story is good, be sure to leave a review!  That’s a pat on the author’s back, a payday for them, to help make the effort to bring a story to life, to post it, to make all that effort a bit more worthwhile.  If I were getting hundreds of reviews, I might be more picky about their quality, but right now, unless it’s pure hatred/flame, I cheer any review that comes into my inbox, useful or not.  Because, when you’re stuck, a “this is awesome” can help motivate your muse to get back on the wagon.

    Loving this topic!
I am a yaoi/slash writer myself. I agree with the facts, as opposed to the myths. Didn’t even see any myths here that I believe. People can be ridiculous lol
I believe my writing reflects the ‘facts’ here. I usually have couples switch roles at some point, I don’t make either of them particularly effeminate acting (I don’t think) and I don’t have anyone going from fighting one minute to sexy-time the next. I like having at least a little buildup, though sometimes I admit I do rush story to get to lemons faster lol
Also, I’m a straight female, but am obsessed with m/m stuffs. And I keep my screaming on the inside, thank you

I get super-attached to stories, I cry and rage at my laptop/phone like a crazy person; I convinced one author to let me borrow her evil OC so I can kill him in my story
I’ve also made readers cry, laugh, rage, etc.
Maybe the most ‘wow’ review I’ve ever gotten was for a lemon scene. ‘My underwear is done for.’  It was a very wtf moment for me. I read it like 10 times like, did that just happen?

Reviews are ambrosia, (well, not flames...).  Unless you’re writing original (as I am), you can’t get paid for it (unless you’’re … J.J. cough cough), so reviews are kinda the only thing to stoke the ego, to make you feel really good about posting.

    Dear Valued Reader,
Over the past few years I have been pretty vocal about the problem of ever declining reviews across a number of fanfiction sites. I have sought reasons why reviews have declined and solutions to boost review activity; however I have never before explained publicly why reviews are so important to me as a fanfiction writer. So below I would like to tell you why reviews matter to me.
First you have to understand that I never intended to become a fanfiction writer. The first story I ever wrote (7 years ago) was meant to spark activity in one of my favorite but nonexistent (at the time) fandoms. (I was a reader of fanfiction way before I started to write). With a shocking lack of confidence I transformed the basic outline of what I wanted to see someone else write into a coherent story. Still lacking confidence and sure that I would be told how much the story sucked I posted it, thinking it would inspire people to improve on what I thought was pure garbage.
The next day after school, I nervously checked my email. My heart pounded when I saw their were not one but several reviews to my story. I was sure they had only written in to tell me how bad the story was. Nervous I opened the first one.
“This was one of the best stories I have ever read. Please write more.”
I couldn’t believe it. Surely this review was a fluke. Then opening the other ones I found much of the same. People loved my story. Wanted more even. Suddenly I began to swell with a feeling of pride. Something that I had created had caused someone else who I didn't even know joy. So much so they were willing to write in and ask for more. At that point I completely fell in love with the feeling of being able to please other people with my writing. I began to think of other plots I could write. At that moment a fanfiction writer was born.
It’s been a long time since that first story. I have written dozens if not hundreds of stories across multiple fandoms, on multiple sites, under several different pen names. But one thing remains constant. The feeling I get from reading that someone enjoyed my work keeps me writing. It keeps me up till 1 am when I have work the next morning. It keeps me involved in the fanfiction community.
In my opinion it’s really not that much to ask. I create work for the enjoyment of others at no charge. All I ask is that you leave a few words telling me what you thought. This is my payment so to speak. A way for fans to tell me their opinions of the story while keeping me motivated and even giving me ideas for the future. I know you’re not purposefully not reviewing. You have a busy life, but so do the writers who are creating these works that you enjoy. Most in their spare time after a long day of work or on the weekends. So please the next time you enjoy a story please take a moment to write a short review. That short sentance or two will really brighten up that writers day. It might even inspire a new chapter or another story all togeather. Sometimes all it takes is a short “That story was great! Keep going” to inspire someone or rekindle and old flame.
Thank you for listening and please pass this letter on to your friends, family and anyone else who reads fanfiction.

Of course, glowing praise is awesome lol But some well-meaning concrit is useful and I’d never turn it down.
My fave is when a reader notices and mentions a particular part I’m proud of coming up with.
Other than that, I pretty much agree with all the other posts here

The title says it all. You know what sucks? Spending hours and hours toiling away at a story that you know will A. never make you any money and B. is taking time away from, you know, all the other important things you should probably be doing besides describing Severus Snape's balls, to the point where you think the only reason you still do it because deep down, you're some kind of weird masochist and you must have serious problems.
Then all of a sudden, you get a review, and the clouds part.
As a fellow writer, I get you. Since I have some free time on my hands, and I want to liven the forum up a bit, I'll review any story you throw at me. I like originals the most, but I'll review fanfiction too. If I am unfamiliar with the fandom, I'll review the writing style and sex scenes.
Regarding my tolerance level of sex: Lol. Take your best shot. I like it graphic.
No GoT (sorry, that series and I don't get along)
Please put in a link to your story.
    WARNING: I'll be honest.
Other than that, play ball! One free review. No strings attached. Must be your lucky day, huh?
